Why does Defoe get no love? I realize that he and Rooney dont exactly have the best matching skill sets but theyre by far Englands best two strikers. Heskey, Crouch, Gabby, etc...all good but I dont think any of them are as explosive, tricky or well rounded as Defoe. Hes looked greats at White Hart Lane so far.

Also, Fabio, please play ashley young on the left and theo on the right.

Defoe needs Peter Crouch to be good.

Defoe's nowhere near the skill level of Rooney, either.

I wasnt saying that Defoe was better than Rooney at all. Just that Defoe was the best second option even though hes not the target forward that rooney can play support.

My england team:
James
G. Johnson Ferdaturd Terry Cole
Walcott ( Lampard, Barry, Gerrard) A. Young
Defoe Rooney

With 'first subs' being: whichever midfielder didnt start of the 3 CM, J.Cole (when his knee works), Crouch (intl teams have trouble with his height, this is not based solely on skill)

--Im really high on glen johnson, i think he is equal to about 5 wes browns
--Beckhams time is done I think, England need to start worrying about 2010...get whoever you want on the right for '10 out there now...its fine if he gets some caps through substitutions. But Id like to see more J.Cole, Walcott, Lennon, SWP whoever
--I think that Downing should back up Young on the LM and that Fabio needs to stop putting people out of position over there unless you just need as much talent on the field as possible vs. a Spain, etc
--Im a big Liverpool koolaid drinker but Id like to see Gerrard and Barry
--Just because defoe is so much better than the target options, I say put the two strikers out there and let them get used to one another
--It would be interesting to see more Jagielka, Lescott, Upson, Micah

I'm guessing Hibernian will be showing matches on Sunday, but I just called and confirmed that Tobacco Road Sports Cafe will definitely be showing Liverpool/Chelsea. Let's see how Benitez manages to fuck this one up.

Damn Manure just keeps playing lights out. I don't see anybody catching them in the EPL unless VDS gets injured.

Even without the red card, I don't know that Chelsea would've stopped those two goals.

Their defending at the back has become woeful.

Other news:

Fulham is in talks with Brian McBride about returning

Jozy Altidore was loaned to the Spanish Second division leading side Xerez

Jo is going to Everton on loan

I'm almost willing to put money on Arshavin not going to ARSELOL

and Sasha Kljestr;rkporkgpero is too expensive for Celtic's tastes

Yeah, Liverpool definitely looked the more promising side up until the red card

Of course, the card changed the whole style of the game, and it's impossible to say what would've happened...but I would've bet on a Liverpool win over a Chelsea win

Incidentally, this is why I always tout Benayoun...he did more in 15-20 minutes than a lot of players did all game. And that was not an easy header from Torres, either...well done, kid.

Liverpool deserved to win that match. They dominated possession, attempts on target, corners, pretty much everything. The red card was bullshit, but so was the yellow on Gerrard for "diving" when he should have gotten a free kick on the edge of the box and so were the two no-calls on penalties. Even with Lampard, I think Chelsea still lose the match.

Glad to see Babel and Benayoun getting time. Would love to see Babel start some matches; I don't want him leaving like Crouch.

I think you left out a couple of "was on, then it wasn't, but then it was" steps in the middle there.

a really really poor man's c. ronaldo...yeah i dont understand this move at all. its not like they dont have any wingers there already...if anything they need to do something with both their fullbacks...ashley cole makes a costly mistake every single game lately and bosingwa doesnt know the meaning of closing down crosses on the outside

i am so glad man utd lost the fight in purchasing bosingwa to chelski.

--Im pretty pissed Arshavin was transferred, he really showed some turd tendencies this transfer window (as well as over the summer). Seems like a total attention whore. Also, he will have a pretty big wage cut? I heard he was making 100+ (pounds) a week over there.

--Queresma went to Chelsea, that also pisses me off. How many midfielders can they have on one team?

--Liverpool signed no one...sort of a disappointment. Torres has been out twice this year, it may happen again. We have Kuyt, N'gog, Babel, and ? I think we needed another genuine striker. Id love to see Babel get time up top and Yossi on the right/left more. Babel seems more suited for a striking role and we need some depth. N'gog needs a lot more time and Kuyt cant support a title run.

--I feel bad for Tony Adams and Portsmouth

--Becks for 14 million? Hes in their CL squad? I think itll happen

In what way? Seems like all of this trouble was between Zenit and Arsenal, and Arshavin was mainly a bystander. Unless you are talking about him demanding a transfer, but I don't know that I have a problem with that either. He has earned the right to play for a big club I think.

Hopefully after all of this transfer saga business that's been dragging on for years, he doesn't bust out like the last few "high-profile" exports from that region.

It's Arsenal, so you can pretty much guarantee that where always be multiple spots open due to injuries

EDIT: And yes, he played in the Champions League with Zenit so he cannot with Arsenal this year

Arshavin seems like a huge turd. Starting in the summer he wanted a big club transfer because he was that 'hot' at the time. Then people cooled off a little and he changed his stance from 'no way' to 'please' on Tottenham. He goes on strike, he demands which clubs he plays and doesnt play for. I realize everyone wants to play for a good club and have it under their control, but he just comes off as a spoiled brat who wants nothing more than to play for united (if not, then chelsea. if not, then arsenal. if not, then tottenham. if not, then west brom. etc). Zenit definitely screwed things up with his valuation, they seemed to deserve one another.

cant you have one play on the knockout roster that played for another team in group stage. I thought I saw that real madrid was pissed cause they brought in two players but only one could play champions league for them.

well i know you can add and drop players for the next round of CL league play, but i didnt think you could play in a cup if you are already tied to it with another team...im not 100% sure on the rules though

Russia is actually part of Asia and Europe, as dumb as that sounds. Moscow technically is in Asia but the country is both and is usually classified as Eurasia. However, for Olympic purposes it is considered a European sport and was historically considered a European nation but it spread East and eventually weakened to the country it is today. Im assuming UEFA follows the Olympic classification and makes it European, they were in the UEFA cup right?

Gerrard limped off in the 15th minute of the fa cup replay match with everton going on right now...seems to be a hamstring injury, prob bad news for you liverpool fans cause without him you guys would prob be middle of the table this year
