one thing that’s always wild to me when those title drought lists pop up - we have not been terrible for much of that stretch in those 3 sports. Yeah we’ve had bad seasons here and there (but most teams have had bad seasons too) and the Les and early Herb b-ball seasons was a god awful stretch. But for the most part we’ve been somewhat relevant - making bowl games, NCAAT in baseball and basketball. Obviously we haven’t had any great seasons, hence why we’re in the conference title drought. But on the surface it seems (somebody else do the research) we’ve had less basement dweller seasons than a lotta teams that have won a title more recently. We’ve been mostly just average across the board.

This year the football and basketball teams outperformed expectations. Baseball also did to start the season...and then finished worse than they should have. If my allegience was to any other school I'd call bullshit on our 16 national seed (which is equivalent to a basketball 4-seed).

Yea that's why I posted in this thread. How many "so close" have we had. I can think of a couple in all 3 sports off the top of my head. A streak that far of an outlier implies at least some bad luck.

with a title drought like that, you'd think we we'd be close to Ted Roof era Duke football and Jeff Bzdelik era Wake basketball for large portions of time...

but really we've never been Ted Roof era bad in football (3-9 with DD and 3-9 with Amato were terrible, but obvious outliers). we had some very lean basketball years under Les and early Herb and Lowe...but even then, we've still had plenty of good seasons in basketball.

But even the Gott low points were just two seasons. Not good at all - and we should never be that bad. But generally the low points haven’t been for extended periods of time.

As for the deadspin article - I like how it’s presented as breaking news. We’ve all known it, it’s been rehashed a lot. Maybe it hasn’t made a lot of press nationally, but lol at a unc fan “uncovering” this. What great, intrepid research!!

Even Lowe gave us some excitement one year. Maybe we just got a streak of good luck and over-performed, but I can't remember having a multi-season bad streak in all the time I've followed Pack basketball (was around 2001 or 2002).

This really isn't THAT bad of a UNC team. They have a few McDonald All Americans and a potential top 5 NBA pick, plus some good role players. Problem is they're soft, mentally weak, and bad at shooting from deep, but their real problem is they don't seem like they know how to play together. Bad chemistry.

This isn't like the 8-20 team, but this is a BAD unc team. They have 4 ACC wins and have looked absolutely inept in every other ACC game they have played except against us and the Duke game (even then, they blew a big lead late). They turn the ball over like it's their job, they don't have a player on the roster that can shoot.

I don't care what Keatts said in his presser last night, this UNC team sucks. We have a habit of making below average players look like super stars though. When you let a team that can't shoot take all their shots at the basket, you get what happened last night.
