Carl Hess called the game of his life... too bad it was mainly directed towards Maryland. The fouls were so uneven in the first half it cost us the game because the guys get beat down and frustrated. 20 games in and this is the first time we have been ran off the court, so I will take it and look forward to Tuesday.

Sid out coached K the other night and Williams out coached Sid tonight. William's defensive strategy of doubling down on Smith when Degand dumped it to him worked to perfection because Degand couldn't hit the open shot. Then we couldn't counter that with Wood getting the ball to Smith because Wood got in foul trouble so early on in the game. Horner is a guy who's proven how streaky he can be. If he doesn't do shit for the entire 1st half then there is no reason to play him in the second half, and vice versa. I'm all for Painter getting CJ's minutes because I'd like to see someone play that isn't afraid of shooting the basketball and making any kind of move. Let Painter use the minutes to develop some instead of CJ using the minutes to just act overly passive.

This is the first time all season I've been disappointed with our team's play, but a lot of that came from them coming off of a really emotional win and us not having the athleticism at guard to compete with Maryland's speed. The biggest thing I fault Lowe for tonight is not going into a zone to try and stop and Maryland's penetration. We ran into a hot shooting team tonight though, and were ice cold. Also can we please not get fucking Karl Hess to ref our games anymore? We always seem to have that guy. He makes the FT's so disproportional and rationalizes it by calling fouls so far away from the basket to just even up the foul count.

I think the first half free throw difference was 18 to 2...maybe more but at least that. Nothing more needs to be said. We couldn't play D in the 2nd half and thats the reason for the blowout.



I think we probably lose that one anyway, but you never know in a close game. Refs made sure we didn't have a chance tonight, and made sure of it early.

Painter and Williams do not play the same position Painter is 6'9"...
Refs sucked but this was obviously a hangover game for us. After a game like the Duke game it isn't surprising. Letdown games happen hopefully it woke us up enough for Tuesday.

I went to the game yesterday...I wont delve into thoughts on the game itself, as thats been covered enough, but two observations I had while there:
1) The Maryland fans were surprisingly hospititable. I was fully expecting to get a lot of shit for sporting State gear. Might have been different if we had won, who knows....maybe its just their students that are classless jerks...oh, and Vasquez.
2) Their arena is incredible. Its the perfect balance of seating a large crowd (17500 I think) and providing an intimate atmosphere. The seats in the ends are fantastic especially, as it provides basically a wall of people to scream down on an opponent. Plus, its the home of Maryland basketball. The national championship trophy is right in the middle of the lobby as soon as you come in...theres a museum, and a Maryland Hall of Fame (do we even have a Hall of Fame?). The floor from the 2006 NCAA Women's tournament is mounted on the wall (if we ever managed to win a national championship, we would put that floor in storage...or sell it on eBay). Parking left much to be desired, and we do have a better jumbotron, but still...Ive been to five ACC arenas (not counting Reynolds), and I think we all know which one ranks last in awesomeness. It baffles me that Maryland and Virginia were both able to build incredible arenas recently, yet we couldnt afford to do it by ourselves.

Yeah, people love Reynolds and everything, but the RBC is a really nice arena. If we could get some sort of block S's across the floor, a permanent NCSU merchandise store, and a really BIG display with those championship trophies in them then I think that would make it feel more like our arena. Also what ever happened to that original Reynolds floor that was in the RBC for a while?

^^^I didn't think the calls were that bad, but then again I am not one that blames everything on the calls/refs/conspiracy. It was pretty fairly called and did not affect who won the game. Maybe our guys should have gotten inside instead of bricking outside shot after outside shot.

well I'm not on a "refs against NC State conspiracy" but you have to be retarded to think that NC State could commit what 7 or 8 fouls to Maryland's 0 in the 1st 12 minutes of that game. You can't tell me you think its fair that Tracy smith goes to the line as little as he does when he's basically mounted every time he tries to post up. And don't act like he isn't abused every game.


Look man I rarely come on here and say "we lost that game because of the refs" but I will call out shitty officiating when I see it. I said on saturday we would have lost that game regardless, of course... I also think your confidence goes to hell when you miss shots in addition to not being able to play defense without giving up free points to the other team and not getting the same favor in return.

this game was not the players or the refs it was coaching. its the same thing that happened the last few years against maryland, michigan state and unc.

Anytime we play a defense that sags and collapses into the paint we look retarded on offense. whether it be man to man with double down zone prinicipals or zone packing sid just has no idea how to play against it. our players get the ball inside and force up a fadeaway or bad shot into 2 guys.
