Good to see Edu getting some CL time...

Also, the ONLY game of the 8 broadcasted on DTV that I don't get is the Spurs game...

The big man delivers! 12 minutes in

[Edited on September 14, 2010 at 2:59 PM. Reason : they are calling it an own goal now... Crouch would have put it in if it would have gotten to him]

Crouch once again proved he's one of the world's most underrated players, while Spurs once again proves they're destined to be a mediocre club.

lol, really? i didn't see him play today, but if his playing in the EPL this year is any indication, he's probably closer to overrated than underrated.

can't he just be "rated"

In all seriousness, it seems that teams that haven't seen him before struggle defending him initially and dealing with his height in the box. He can be undefendable completely if he gets crosses like the one today for Spurs' 2nd goal. There's just nothing you can do about that.

He's a niche player. He isn't going to dribble through anyone one or crack the ball from 30 with a legitimate chance. He in there for set pieces, crosses, and corners and that's it.

Well... playing on a team where you've got Lennon crossing the ball in from the right and Bale crossing it in from the left is probably the perfect fit for him.

^ u right

Inter drawing in Holland leaves everyone on 1 point after Matchday 1. I'll take it, although I was hoping Twente would "roll over" to some extent so the Bremen match in London would be for 2nd in the group.

I'm still really high on Crouch though. For such a big guy, he's got great technique and a good first touch. Unfortunately, it takes twice as long for the ball to fall for him when he's trying to control it. I'm just a very big fan of how he plays. He's not going to embarrass anyone with the ball at his feet but that's just not the kind of player he is and he knows it and usually plays within himself.

There are very few players who aren't niche players. You rarely see Messi the first one to an aerial cross. Name a player that doesn't play to his strengths? Everyone loves to separate Crouch because of his size. Many who don't really watch him say that he's only good with his head, almost on assumption alone. He's deceptively fast. He's very smart in the box, and he's a clinical finisher. You rarely see him blow chances. Most detractors point out his dribbling, but the rest of his play is good enough to make up for it.

Maybe a lot of people just want to see pretty Barcelonesque through balls all the time or Messi's close control.

I caught the last 15 minutes of the 1st half for Villarreal in the Europa League and Jozy got the start. He's been okay I guess, but he dribbles straight into defenders way too much. V'real down 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb at halftime.

Liverpool getting dominated (even though it's still 1-1) at Anfield by Steaua after they gifted Cole an early goal... pretty embarrassing stuff. Sounds like a home game for Steaua, their fans are loud as shit

yea i dunno, it looked like the guy caught his ankle pretty bad, it was definitely swollen. i think it was probably a sprained ankle.

Messi was rolling on the ground so much after it happened, either it was a lot worse than it looked or he milked the shit out of it, since it was the 90th minute.

i just lost all my respect for messi. in tears over a sprained ankle thats gonna keep him out for 2 weeks??? 2 weeks is hardly a sprained ankle injury. i hope he never gets a real injury...hate to see how hed react to that

whatever, it was a horrible tackle and I bet it hurt like hell when it happened. let's focus on hating actual dives before we move on to hating varying levels of reactions to injuries

hate him all you want, I don't care... and I'm not denying he embellished the shit out of it by rolling around, but he's actually hurt and it was actually a red card so the other stuff is irrelevant to me

^^ Those kinds of matches are always sneaky tough.

Spurs SHOULD be able to get a result today vs Twente. Saying it and getting it are two totally different things unfortunately. I'm already prepared for a letdown.

...and I'm really interested to see what comes of the Bremen/Inter clash.
