^ video also got me pumped. when RW threw that first TD pass to Andre Brown in the back of the end zone (the first one of his career) i knew this kid was special. Amazing too how people like George Bryan, Jarvis Williams, TJ Graham and Owen Spencer really emerged that year. Nate Irving too.

On the forum post from paintitpurple (how can anyone say that with a straight face) bad analysis, and yes, over-inflated sense of self-worth. I give ECU fans a alot of credit though, they have a good stadium and a good program and they really get behind their team. But this place isn't going to rattle anyone especially not 7 games into the season.

What I like about our team the most is the business-like attitude they've shown; go out and get it done. We're not winning because we're getting lucky. Some of the games have been "close" only because our defense is still learning and finding their way but after the BC game, i have a lot of justified optimism for the team.

^I remember he showed a lot of promise during training camp for the Giants. Then he blew his achilles and I honestly assumed his career was basically over so it's at least good to hear he's with a team.

Picked up todays paper and saw that we made the front page of the sports section for Hampton Roads. It speaks volumes because we are never covered up here unless we play VT or UVA. I believe in MOJO and the jinx, so I do not like alot of the publicity for RW and I do believe that it has to do with his INTs. Call me crazy, I do not care. Still good to get some love.

BTW....another Annabelle Myers fail. Link below.

http://hamptonroads.com/2010/10/star-acc-quarterback-pro-baseball-prospect-too

As for this game, it will be a doozy. THIS IS A TRAP GAME FOR US. Other than our first game we have never come from behind. Being on the road, I will be interested to see if we can keep up the reputation of scoring first and scoring early.

How many ECU fans do you think that didn't know who this guy was before now are going to use him as the "we would have won if..." excuse on Saturday? I bet I hear his name brought up at least 5 times.

It doesn't speak volumes about anything, except for the fact that he's from Richmond, and practically his entire family before him has very deep roots in Norfolk.

^^ if you hear that, you can inform them that their defense was already giving up 40+ points per game with him.

http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/16746/acc-superlatives-watch-week-7
-HD's ACC superlatives watch

has RW, Nate, TOB listed first in each category

Quote :
"Through the second half of the season, I’ll be monitoring the candidates for three postseason awards: offensive player of the year, defensive player of the year and coach of the year. It’s still too early to get a good read on the race, and candidates can be added or subtracted in the following weeks, based on their performance and the team results. So consider this a starting point and a very fluid list.

For now, here are three front-runners in each category:

Offensive POY

NC State quarterback Russell Wilson -- He completed 38 of 51 pass attempts for 328 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Boston College. Wilson also carried the ball 14 times for 45 yards. Wilson has now passed for 300 or more yards five times in six games this season.

Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor -- With the 45-21 win over Central Michigan, Taylor won his 27th game as a starter, surpassing Bryan Randall’s previous high of 26 victories. He accounted for 288 of the Hokies’ 394 yards of total offense in that game. He leads the ACC in pass efficiency (156), has completed 61.6 percent of his passes and is fourth in the ACC in total offense with 238.2 yards per game.

FSU guard Rodney Hudson -- FSU piled up 471 total yards in the 45-17 victory over Miami. Hudson matched his season high by earning a grade of 94 percent (92 run/96 pass), which included two knockdown blocks. He did not register a missed assignment or draw a penalty in 62 snaps while leading a running attack that piled up 298 yards on just 40 carries (7.4 ypc).

On the bubble: Clemson RB Andre Ellington, Duke WR Conner Vernon, FSU QB Christian Ponder, Georgia Tech quarterback Joshua Nesbitt, Maryland receiver Torrey Smith, Miami receiver Leonard Hankerson, UNC running back Johnny White,

Defensive POY

NC State linebacker Nate Irving -- He had six tackles, one pass breakup a quarterback hurry and half a sack in the win over BC. He leads his team with 45 tackles. He has four quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, 8.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers -- He had two sacks for 16 yards in the loss to North Carolina. He now has six sacks in just five games and 11.5 tackles for loss. In five games he has already exceeded his 2009 season totals in terms of sacks and tackles for loss. Bowers ranks third in the nation for tackles for loss and is tied for fourth in sacks.

Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly -- It’s hard to imagine making 20 tackles and not getting the W. That’s what happened to Kuechly against NC State. He leads the nation in tackles with 14.2 per game. He reached 200 career tackles faster than any other player in school history. He owns the nation’s longest streak of games with double digit tackles at 14. He leads the team with 71 total tackles and has recovered two fumbles.

On the bubble: FSU defensive end Brandon Jenkins, Miami defensive end Allen Bailey, Wake Forest defensive end Kyle Wilber, Virginia Tech defensive back Jayron Hosley, Virginia Tech linebacker Bruce Taylor, Virginia defensive back Chase Minnifield, UNC linebacker Bruce Carter, Maryland linebacker Alex Wujciak,

Coach of the Year

NC State coach Tom O’Brien -- He finally defeated his former program, Boston College, and has the Pack off to their best start since 2002.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher -- He celebrated his 45th birthday with a 45-17 win over rival Miami and has the Seminoles leading the Atlantic Division in his first season as a head coach.

Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen -- After a 2-10 finish in 2009, the Terps are now 4-1 overall with their lone loss coming on the road to a ranked West Virginia team."

I would figure that teh benefit of having a 12 pm game would be that the game would be broadcast on a "normal" channel that does not require paying an extra $X a month to watch.....

I suppose i'll just go to beerfest instead...

Lets see if I can explain this.

Derek Blacknall sucks. He filled in last year when Levin Neal was hurt in the WVU and UNC games and we got beat deep several times. Those two games are close if Neal plays. Neal graduated. So now Blacknall is starting. We have 4 or 5 safeties behind blacknall that are better than blacknall. I guess blacknall brings it in practice and thats why he's starting. (we actually have a similar situation at MLB) That helmet to helmet hit that blacknall put on the defensless receiver last week was the only great play blacknall has made. And its only great because he's out vs. state. I wish we'd slide him down the depth chart for good.

Bradley Jacobs is the head hunter. He's been quoted in newpaper articles before the season, saying that he didn't like the helmet to helmet rule and was probably going to get some penalties because he likes to take out receivers.

Ok here's the chronological order of events. Jacobs had a very very normal looking hit last saturday. It was so obviously not intentional because the receiver was being spun by another tackler and Jacobs grazed the wr's head with his shoulder pad. The wr laid there for a minute and Jacobs was ejected.

Blacknall, a few plays later, lauches himself at a wide out, the ball was way overthrown and blacknall mauls the guy. The USM fans are going apeshit. BLACKNALL DOES NOT GET EJECTED!!!!! only gets a penalty. Weird ass series of events. Blacknall's hit was way worse than the jacobs hit.

So, this whole week, we're all worried that Jacobs was going to miss the state game because he was ejected from last weeks game. No one expected blacknall to miss a game. But in an amazing turn of events, we're going to have Jacobs for the state game and blacknall has to sit out. hahahaha I love it. We definitely got lucky here.

Long story short, our Secondary just got A LOT better. lol
But don't get me wrong, RW is still going to eat us alive. I have no doubt about that. But its refreshing to see Blackball take a seat.

Now if Coach McNeil would just let our best MLB play. Steven Spence. I don't know if he's played a down yet this year. He's a really great guy, a big christian and the whole nine yards. But he half asses it in practice and coach Ruff will not play him. lol Instead we're playing Melvin Patterson (a former safety) at MLB. He's ok. He definitely gives everything he's got which is appreciated but he's just not as gifted or as quick or as strong as Steven Spence.

Yeah, that makes sense. I mean usually the worst player out of a group of 5 or 6 gets the start.

Also, I posted this in the UNC thread but enjoyed it so much I wanted to share elsewhere. "No love for the light blue here." Andrew Young tries to call Raleigh "Tarheel Country" and Shep Smith promptly says STFU and GTFO (i'm paraphrasing).

There's alot of reasons why better players don't get the start. Sometimes a kid with less talent lays everything he's got on the line and the coaches start him for his efforts. Coach Ruff does this all the time.

And all of the players mentioned are competing for just one of the safety positions.

Well, Marshall was the kid that got his leg nearly removed in the VT game last year. Dirty hit that wasn't called on a punt return. His leg has recovered but he's still in too much pain to play with rods in his shin. He could possibly get a med hardship year.

Magazu is a true frosh with tons of talent. But the coaches don't wanna throw him in the fire too early and he actually played last week after Jacbos was ejected.

Morgan, they moved to corner and are trying to develop him there and he's #2 behind our stud corner.

Paulk is tall and lanky and is very fast, but doesn't have alot of experience and probably needs to physically mature a little more, but I'd take him over Blacknall.

And there are others. just sayin

It is always nice to play the guys who give the best effort but I highly doubt that it the case with whoever the players you said were

RM's job is to win football games and he's going to put his best players on the field period, especially against NCSU

Sounds like an issue where the veteran with less talent but more experience is playing over the young guys with more natural talent but not much experience. I can buy that. But when playing against a proven veteran QB, I'd rather have the experience out there. So I would say at best you increased athleticism in your secondary, but you took a drop off at experience, and I'm sure RW will take notice.

The only thing that worries me are our redzone woes, we're getting there as much as anyone in the nation but just not converting at a high rate, and our secondary not being very tested this year. Also hoping our players don't go in expecting a cake walk to our 6th win, need to go in there hungry to get the bowl eligibility win and make it to our bye week 6-1.

I don't know about getting the start, but sometimes if a player has enough heart and if enough teammates and fans start chanting the players name repeatedly, they will probably get sent in for a kickoff coverage play and maybe a couple defensive plays in garbage time. In these cases, usually the undersized and/or less talented gets a sack and everyone is deeply moved.

if i'm an NC State fan i'm not worried too much about this. ECU is #1 in the nation in redzone efficiency but that won't matter if the offense stalls as it did against VT or UNC in the 2nd half. What i WOULD be worried about is how state barely won at UCF w/ Wilson throwing for 105 total yards. (also scored 7 pts in 2nd half)

sure it'll be no red kenan stadium, but it should be better than bobby dodd was, for obvious reasons

our offense is based on passing the ball, RW was struggling that game, so obviously the scoring was not going to be as high as if he was on point

Carter Finely is the loudest college stadium I've ever been in.

The RBC center is the Loudest College basketball venue I've ever been to.

I don't think its the noise that will be a factor this weekend. However our crowd is relentless. We stand the whole damn time and we yell at you the entire time.

But I could also see NC State hushing us up quick fast and in a hurry. lol

Can't wait.

Actually the ACC is pretty weak when it comes to hostile home crowds.

Good: (in no order) VT, NCSU, FSU, Clemson,
Decent: GT, UNC, Maryland, UVA,
Terrible: Duke, Wake, BC, Miami

In reality Dowdy Ficklin would be our 4th toughest road game environment if they were in the ACC.
