^^because he once coached under Bill Belichik!

even though its been proven time and time again that the reason any of Belichik's coordinator's were good, was because they were under Belichik

Oliver Luck was just on the radio...said the main two reasons Luck decided to go back to school were to get his degree, and because he felt close to his teammates...sounded pretty sincere, didn't seem like he would change his mind before 1/15...also said it had nothing to do with what team had the 1st pick

i dont think it was anything about journalism, he was saying what Ollie Luck told him on the phone, which is the same thing it sounds like he said on the radio ... I believe he's gonna be on David Glenn (for Raleigh people) on 99.9 around 12:30

You mean the jackass that thinks its a good idea to hire a coach in waiting and insert him as OC on his schools FB team w/o consulting the 2011 coach? Then proceeds to gush about how great of a coach the lame duck is?

so Blaine Gabbert is the #1 QB on the board according to McShay. Ugh, what a terrible year to have the #1 pick. I wouldnt feel nearly as bad if we had a 2nd round pick. We could snag Bowers, Fairley, Peterson or AJ Green with the #1 pick, then pick up a second tier QB (Newton, Locker, Dalton, etc.) in the second round.

But thanks to the fucking idiot Marty Hurney we traded away that 2nd round pick (the 33rd pick in the draft) for Armanti fucking Edwards. What an absolutely awful move that was, I cant understand how that was ever justified in their war room last year. Hurney shouldve been fired on the spot for even suggesting that trade/pick. What an absolute trainwreck, a GM who makes awful decisions and an owner who refuses to spend any money on free agents who can fix the mistakes we make in the draft

For the first time in 10+ years I am much more optimistic of my other favorite team, the Cleveland Browns. They have a GM making decisions that I trust will be the right move. The Browns at this point are a much better run organization than the Panthers.

The crazy part about that Edwards pick was that they clearly picked him over Jacob Ford even though they knew for a fact that Ford would be a much better player.

I am convinced that was a half baked effort to create hype since they knew they werent gonna make any other moves in the offseason. and I wouldn't be surprised if foxy deactivated him for most of the games this year as a way to jab richardson/hurney for giving him a shit team to work with.

I'm already over getting an elite QB in this draft. Luck crushed that. Let's just resign Moore, bring in another veteran, and let the two of them duke it out with Clausen for starter. It won't be pretty, but I don't want another young project. It's not far stretched to say we'll have an early pick again next year ... maybe Luck then?

As far as this year's draft, I know Bowers makes sense, and he was defintiely dominant this year, but he was pretty non-existant before this season. Plus, I just don't see Mario Williams, Julius Peppers, etc when I watch him.

Again, I think CB might be the best way to go. Here's a pretty good review of Patrick Peterson done back in October. I'll defintiely be watching him in the Cotton Bowl.

Worth note:

Quote :
"Man coverage: As far as physical cornerbacks go, Peterson is one of the best in a long time. He has the size to redirect a receiver on the line and disrupt routes.

Speed: In the spring of 2010, Peterson was laser-timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.37 seconds. He's shown off that speed as a punt returner and will be able to immediately contribute in that area in the pros. "

But then there's this

Quote :
"Peterson is a better cornerback prospect than Joe Haden and Kyle Wilson. Shows very good high-point awareness. However, Peterson is not a perfect cornerback. He's struggled at times against quick receivers and gets beaten on double moves. "

Eh, you don't draft a CB with the 1st pick in the draft. I think Plan A is to trade out of the top 5 and try to collect an extra pick or two in the later rounds. If no one wants to make a trade like that, draft Bowers . Panthers play Drew Brees/Matt Ryan 4x a year and need an elite pass rusher.

Pretty much sums it up

Quote :
"By Pete Fiutak

Andrew, you’re going to Stanford. You’re supposed to be smarter than this.

I love college football. I love it when the players stay around and I love it when there are great storylines and great moments to get excited for. Selfishly, I’m ecstatic that Andrew Luck is staying at Stanford, but it’s completely and totally moronic for him to play one more down of college football than he has to.

Do not bring up Sam Bradford and his decision to return to Oklahoma for one more year. That was the equivalent of the 45-foot jump shot that went in when he could’ve had a layup. He took a chance, he got hurt, and he was very, very fortunate that his shoulder could be repaired and everything turned out okay health-wise. He was also very, very fortunate that Jake Locker made an awful decision to come back for one more year.

You remember Jake Locker. He used to be the No. 1 overall prospect by most scouts, but he chose to return for one more year, was bad at playing college football, went 9-for-36 in two games against Nebraska, and it’ll probably cost him at least $30 million plus whatever he would’ve made last year.

But “money doesn’t mean that much to me,” said Locker, and Luck doesn’t necessarily need the dough. Well isn’t that cute. 21-year-old kids say the darndest things when they’re in the fog of college dreamworld, and then they get out, and then they get to the NFL, and then they get into contract disputes when they’re in pain 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while getting their brains smashed up against the inside of their skills for half the money they could’ve and should’ve been making. This is a bad, miserably bad, business decision.

Bradford had his horseshoe moment with everything working out for him money and career-wise, and so did Locker. The Washington star will get paid and paid well with so many teams needing quarterbacks in what should be the final year of the mega-rookie contracts, because next year, it’ll all go bu-bye. In a sport like football, and in a volatile situation like the NFL labor negotiations are going through, there are no guarantees of anything. Luck is taking a very careless, very big chance with a lot of money and a lot of potential.

You might not care about money now, Andrew, but that’s going to change when that $65 million contract you would’ve had this year becomes $6.5 million after the NFL finally gets its stuff together and hammers out a deal. You might not care about money now, Andrew, but with your brain and your ambitions, you can do a lot more in this world – and yes, it is fair to dump all this on a kid given the Will Hunting-like hand he was dealt - with three times the money you’d be making if you came out this year. And no, casual working stiff sports fan, don’t try to relate to the idea that being a millionaire in any way should be enough. This is a whole other level that none of us mere mortals can understand, especially when it comes to foundations and other business deals, and about ten minutes after the first NFL practice, it’s completely and totally about the money.

Players can always go back to school in the summer to get their degrees, and then, unlike now, it really is about being a student, since no college football player worth his salt gets the time to ever fully focus on learning. And then there’s the Mr. Football factor.

For every Peyton Manning that worked out by staying around, there are more Lockers, Matt Leinarts, and Brady Quinns that didn’t. If you’re a football player, really a football player, you want to play in the NFL as soon as humanly possible. That’s the dream and that’s the goal, and when a player of Luck’s caliber chooses to delay that opportunity, that normally sends up a red flag that something might not be there … as was the case with Locker, Leinart, and Quinn. General managers and scouts might say they like it when players develop as much as possible in college, but they're lying. They want guys who eat, sleep, and live for being a football player, and nothing else.

But I don’t think Luck will bust in any way when he finally arrives in the NFL. He’s a special player with a nearly-perfect set of skills, and yeah, if he really likes college and he really wants to be a kid for another year, then bad business decision or not, good for him. I do get the idea that life isn’t always all about the money, but if that’s really the case, then go be an architect. You don’t play football at the level Luck is at, risk permanent brain damage and other debilitating physical ailments, and not get paid the most money you can possibly get for doing it.

Now go win the Heisman. Get something out of this decision."
