If you finished worst in the first segment, I'm pretty certain you will not be able to hang on to your pole position in the second segment, being that everyone behind you is faster.

Essentially, it would make for more passes and harder racing if the field is inverted 3 times.

So who's going to the race this weekend? I haven't been to the 600 since the 90's and was thinking about camping out for sunday night only. Does anyone have any recommendations? Last time I camped it was $25 a spot. Now they want $100 I would prefer not to pay that just for one night of tent camping.

^^ yeah we though about that, but there are 4 of us going so we won't fit. All we need is a place to set up an 8 person tent, so I'd hate to pay $100 for one night. I remember there being a few private property areas that let people park/camp in their yard for a fee but it's been a while since I've been on that side of the track (we go to the boa 500 every fall, but we always just tailgate at the dragsteip).

Great 500 this weekend. Was a hot one but a little breeze and planning to bring water goes a long way.

I think a lot of Junior fans either already have or are in the process of giving up on him.

Jr is doing exactly what he did last year in that he is driving super conservative in an effort to just make the chase, not win races. I am surprised Nascar has not completely rigged everything to just let Jr cheat and have an illegal car in order to get him wins and get some fans back. Jr winning is about the only thing that is going to revive the sport.

No. I flew up to Indy.

So NASCAR's Most Popular Driver has become Matt Kenseth?

Quote :

Yeah. I tongue-in-cheek in past years have said to his fans that Jr. was the Danica Patrick of NASCAR in that he'd get a lot of attention, gets the top 5 or top 10, but would never be the guy that wins. He's in the best car so it's not like his fans can blame his car owner (Teresa) or his cousin crew chief (Eury) anymore. He's a good solid competent driver but he's not one that would ever win a championship without a gimmick (the Chase). For him to win a championship even now means him and his team have to outperform Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus when they have the same car, and I don't think that's going to happen. I'm cynical on the whole deal and have never been a Junior fan to begin with, but I think Hendrick has him on the team just to sell merchandise.

no, they showed that they want him to win when they yanked letarte, one of the best crew chiefs in the business, from the 24 and put him on the 88.

^ The same Letarte Gordon fans hated and he went on a big winless streak with?

Of course Hendrick would like Junior to win, he can sell more merchandise then. But if you're Rick, you know your top shooter is Johnson far and away over Junior.

BTW, are you from New Bern?

selective recap of Prelude to the Dream, courtesy of a guy on SBNation:

Quote :
"8:03 p.m. -- Annnnnnd we're live. Tony Stewart reveals Dave Blaney somehow missed the plane in Pocono, but is en route. Ouch.

8:08 p.m. -- "Pit reporter" Steve Letarte is interviewing Danica in the car. "I have no idea what I'm doing," she says.

8:23 p.m. -- Michael McDowell, watching at home, was not impressed with Danica's qualifying lap. It was pretty rough.

"If your watching the prelude then you understand when is say WOW! That was almost embarrassing.""

When Michael McDowell of all people is not impressed with your qualifying lap, that's saying something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZyCRaVZx3Q

Quote :
"8:24 p.m. -- Kyle Busch just jumped the cushion and hit the wall in qualifying. Some decent damage, but he still qualified fourth for now (crowd cheered when he got damage). By the way, Danica is NOT the slowest. That is NHRA star Cruz Pedregon so far.

8:28 p.m. -- Tony Kanaan now slowest of everyone. Wonder if there's bragging rights to NOT be slowest in qualifying?

8:38 p.m. -- Austin Dillon is the top qualifier. Only 25 cars took a lap because Dave Blaney still hasn't arrived.

9:00 p.m. -- Darrell Waltrip is taking a two-seater ride with Tony Stewart. "You'd have to be a fool to get in the right side of one of these things," says DW, before getting in the right side of one of those things.

9:19 p.m. -- Halfway through the first heat race. Dillon Brothers battling for the top spot, former IndyCar colleagues Kanaan and Danica battling for last.

9:23 p.m. -- Danica Patrick just crashed to bring out the first caution of the night on the last lap of the first heat race. She's OK, but probably embarrassed.

9:26 p.m. -- INCREDIBLE last two laps of racing after Danica brought out the caution and forced a restart! At the beginning, they were basically FIVE WIDE. Craziness. Anyway, Austin Dillon won while Ty Dillon and Tony Stewart battled for second. Results:

1.Austin Dillon
2.Ty Dillon
3.Tony Stewart
4.Tony Kanaan
5.Steve Kinser
6.David Gilliland
7.Danica Patrick

9:33 p.m. -- Bowyer cruises to the heat win. Newman finishes second, then Aric Almirola. Justin Allgaier surprisingly finished last, even behind Cruz Pedregon. Results:

1.Clint Bowyer
2.Ryan Newman
3.Aric Almirola
4.Jimmie Johnson
5.Cruz Pedregon
6.Justin Allgaier

9:35 p.m. -- Kyle Busch and Ken Schrader among six cars in this third heat race. Bizarrely, Dave Blaney also on track taking hot laps because he just showed up!

9:37 p.m. -- This is weird. Blaney apparently isn't even supposed to be in this race, but is racing with the guys like he is. Kyle Busch leads at halfway point.

9:38 p.m. -- Kyle Busch wins Heat Race No. 3. Results:

1.Kyle Busch
2.Bobby Labonte
3.Ken Schrader
4.Kenny Wallace
5.Bill Elliott
6.Ron Capps

9:41 p.m. -- Danica Patrick might be the only person at Eldora who is not having fun. Dick Berggren reported she "declined an interview" after wrecking her car. Crew is working on it. Meanwhile, here we go for Heat No. 4, which features Dave Blaney, Kasey Kahne and Kurt Busch.

9:43 p.m. -- Dave Blaney spins on the opening lap, so there was a caution. On the restart, Kurt Busch wrecks with JJ Yeley. Not severe damage to either car, but another caution.

9:46 p.m. -- Actually, Kurt Busch took his car back to the pits. Halfway through Heat Race No. 4, Kasey Kahne has the lead.

9:49 p.m. -- Hard crash for Dave Blaney, who tore up the back right side of his car. That brought out a caution and probably ruined his night.

9:51 p.m. -- Kasey Kahne wins the fourth heat, and thus the pole for the feature race (I don't know why the fourth heat winner gets the pole, he just does).

1.Kasey Kahne
2.Donny Schatz
3.Jason Leffler
4.Ray Evernham
5.Dave Blaney
6.J.J. Yeley
7.Kurt Busch

9:59 p.m. -- Danica comes out to present a $25,000 check from her sponsor to Feed the Children. Good to see a worthy charity getting some great attention. She also granted Dick Berggren an interview and Tony Stewart gave Berggren one of his helmets from last season.

10:11 p.m. -- OOPS! They just showed a replay of one of the support races, and a guy drove to Victory Lane, got out and left his car in gear. It started rolling down a ramp and several guys had to stop it from getting away.

10:23 p.m. -- Kurt Busch is out for the night due to damage on his car from a wreck in the heat race. Dick Berggren interviewed him and Kurt said this: "This is pay-per-view, right? I don't want to cuss, but I want to say that was more like premature ejaculation right there." Wow."

Quote :
"10:30 p.m. -- Bobby Labonte spins right at the start, so the first lap doesn't even count. This could be pretty wild.

10:35 p.m. -- Yep, pretty wild. Seven cars just got into a crash on the frontstretch, including Bobby Labonte, Ray Evernham, Steve Kinser, David Gilliland, J.J. Yeley, Dave Blaney and Danica Patrick (who just spun and didn't really get any damage). The red flag is out for now.

10:38 p.m. -- They can't even make it through a lap without wrecking. This time, it's Jason Leffler and Kenny Schrader. Back to green.

10:40 p.m. -- Sheesh! And another wreck! Ty Dillon, Kenny Wallace and others involved in the latest incident. There might not be anyone left by the time this is over.

10:43 p.m. -- Well, they're finally racing (at least long enough for me to write this without having to stop for a wreck). Kasey Kahne has gotten out to a slight lead over Clint Bowyer.

10:45 p.m. -- Lead change! As Kasey Kahne came up to lap David Gilliland, Clint Bowyer used the momentum to slip by and take over the No. 1 spot on lap 13 of 40. There are no spotters, so Gilliland couldn't tell who was around him.

10:49 p.m. -- Two HUGE things just happened. First of all, Kahne passed Bowyer for the lead and Bowyer tried to get back by him, but Kahne squeezed Bowyer up into the wall. Bowyer got damage and had to retire from the race. Then, Bobby Labonte somehow spun on the track and Kahne hit him at full speed. It was a really hard crash, but fortunately Kahne was OK (his car wasn't). "It's discouraging," Kahne said.

10:53 p.m. -- Bowyer says Kahne can't ride with him back to Pocono after he got "used up" while battling for the lead. He was kidding. I think. He also said Kahne's crash with Labonte was "karma" for putting Bowyer in the wall.

10:56 p.m. -- Kyle Busch is leading the Prelude with eight laps to go, though Tony Stewart is trying to track him down.

10:59 p.m. -- Kyle Busch just won the Prelude for the first time. Tony Stewart was second.

11:01 p.m. -- Busch says the win "means a lot, it's cool." Here's a look at the full results (the top 10 finishers get a food truck to their city of choice):

1.Kyle Busch
2.Tony Stewart
3.Austin Dillon
4.Donny Schatz
5.Ryan Newman
6.Aric Almirola
7.Cruz Pedregon
8.Dave Blaney
9.Ty Dillon
10.Justin Allgaier
11.Jimmie Johnson
12.Kenny Wallace
13.Ray Evernham
14.Bill Elliott
15.Danica Patrick
16.Kasey Kahne (OUT)
17.Bobby Labonte (OUT)
18.Jason Leffler (OUT)
19.Clint Bowyer (OUT)
20.David Gilliland (OUT)
21.Ron Capps (OUT)
22.Tony Kanaan (OUT)
23.J.J. Yeley (OUT)
24.Ken Schrader (OUT)
25.Steve Kinser (OUT)
26.Kurt Busch (DNS)"

Yeah, been rumored for a month.

I have hopes for the prospects of Marco Andretti doing a one-off race at Daytona and him and Danica crash together.

^ so are Gibbs keeping Logano?

I'm shocked Kenseth's leaving Roush.

john wes townley is the worst driver in nascar. he makes danica look like aj foyt. he obviously wouldnt even be out there if his dad wasnt the founder of zaxby's.

Quote :
"John Wes Townley hit the wall at the exit of Turn 2 during his warmup lap on Friday at Pocono Raceway, and he was replaced as driver of FAS Lane Racing's #32 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car before he even turned an official lap. Camping World Truck Series driver Jason White will replace Townley, who was planning to make his Cup debut in Sunday's Pennsylvania 400 with sponsorship from the Zaxby's fast-food chicken restaurant chain.
