ncstatetke do you think Herb will be fired after this year? The contract extension is important, but so is nurturing an interest in their basketball program, and that's just not happening. What do you think the scenario is?

I think he's back next year, but if he has a subpar OOC record and starts off conference slow, I think he'll be shown the door. Mussleman will step in as interim. This will be the most upperclassmen Herb's put on the floor (starting a third year SO*, a JR and 3 SRs) and the bench should be a little deeper.

I agree they generally don't do things right, because good coaching hires come from strong AD support and motivation, and coaching firm track records (i.e. not giving Geriatrickson an 18th try), but I believe if the new AD is serious and they made a good move in firing Lisa Love, then things will change sooner rather than later. Herb's record there is atrocious.

Fair enough. I just think they should go ahead and move on it. Herb's best outfit is either in a mid-major or in Europe. It saddens me to say that, but I think you keep holding onto this guy like he's big league. That's your choice and all, and I'm not trying to belittle you. I just don't get it.

yeah i feel bad too. i figured that herb would do something like make the tournament every couple of years and i would love to hate arizona state basketball... but he's been such a failure that i actually really sympathize for the guy.

that said, he sure as shit had to leave our program. there's no feelings in basketball.

Just even comparing Gott to Herb make me so fucking glad we got rid of old Herb. While I appreciated what Herb did to pull our team out of the gutter, he really wasted some potentially great teams with his awful style of play. Herb would be best to just become an assistant on some mid major team and help teach fundamentals. He is not a leader of men.
