i'm'a take this thread back to a productive place with one simply question:

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LET THE HAWKS OUT???? CAW, CAW CAWWWWW!!!!1!!!1!!!1

time for big Al to come back and punch garnett in his baby sacks. time for jj-j-j-j-jj-joooe johnson to start playing like the average player he is. time for J-Smoov to start hitting tons of ill-advised jumpers. time for ivan johnson to murder someone. only thing we missin' is my homie ZAZA back in the lineup, or else the Hawks would be a shoo-in to win the next 3 and SHOCK DA WORLD. F*ck the celtics.

That's all, y'all can now go back to debates about how Serge Ibaka and Tiago Slitter are better than any of the fictional players from NBA Jams, including Air Dog and George Clinton. P-Funk, raise up.

Okay, just so we're clear.

WP/48 is based on your collective body of work over the course of the season. In no way does it state that if you have a four game stretch where you outplay someone that you are the superior player. But you already know this.

You realize that if a baseball player bats .250 that it's entirely possible for him to get 2 hits in a row occasionally? He doesn't go 1/4 every game.

4 games is a ridiculously small sample size, particularly since the series was lopsided and a lot of guys played less minutes than they normally would.

I'll excuse Ginobili for not busting his ass in the middle of a 30 point win in a series that they could play 10 times and probably not lose once.

Maybe I should just contact my 8 year old sister who won her bracket pool instead. Or better yet miss cleo so she can tell me which MVP will get injured next.

[Edited on May 8, 2012 at 5:02 PM. Reason : k]

^Don't compare wp48 to batting averages. There are way less variables that go into a batting average. Batting is just pitcher vs hitter

Lebron isn't hurt.

And acting like Rose's injury was a fluke is ridiculous. He missed most of the season. If you didn't factor in less minutes, less production, etc out of Rose then that's just bad analysis.

How many games did he miss with a knee injury? How often was he hurt before this season? Most of this season really wasn't that long and he had a few nagging yet minor injuries. Nothing major like this, ever.

Quote :
"Does it anger anybody that "hard fouls" have become a part of basketball, and that some people watch the game to see a guy get clobbered while defenseless in the air?

It just makes guys like Lebron and Blake easy targets to tackle them by "going for the ball"."

I feel exactly the opposite. I think it should be like soccer where coming from the basket is different than coming behind. Guys end up letting lebron and others go right to the basket for a free layup because they don't want to foul them. it is so dumb. guys should jump when the offensive player jumps and meet them straight up verticality like in the old days

Incorrect. He had significant injuries that caused him to miss half the season. If you thought he was healthy heading into the playoffs, you were the only one

i had always heard rumors that the car accident Rose was in a couple months ago further aggravated his injury

pretty tough to predict a torn ACL though

Miami is going to obliterate them they stink.

*update, they're going to win thank god. Collison was filthy tonight and barbosa was really good too.

did Boston have any timeouts? after a great, clutch defensive play, Rondo looked pedestrian during the last 8-9 seconds of the game

That series isn't over.

The Hawks with Horford are slightly better than the banged up Celtics. But I don't know if they're better enough to pull off 3 straight, particularly the next game in Boston.

Will be interesting.

Thank god i hedged a few hundred onto chicago or i'd be having an aneurysm right now. Even still I'm freaking pissed. 26 points at half?!

They are calling absolutely NOTHING inside on either end this series. To be honest I love it, it's made for a lot of interesting games. Some people say it's "ugly", but I like a great block 100x more than i like to see guys shoot free throws. People are contesting everything because they know it won't be called an automatic foul.

Fucking Thibs. He finally figures out to bench Hamilton for Brewer. REALLY?!?

Now the Bulls are much better. I hope he gets drunk tonight and forgets everything he just learned.

Inserting Brewer for Hamilton basically cancels out the Rose injury. If they can get Noah back the Bulls are still dangerous.

I might unload heavily on the Bulls tomorrow night because I don't trust this 76ers team. They really showed what they're made of tonight. They were terrified of the fast break and they are a terrible team in the halfcourt offense. Especially when Iguodala and Lou Williams shoot. Not sure what Doug Collins is doing. If he can't beat the Bulls without Noah/Deng and possibly Taj (if his ankle swells up tonight) then he is an idiot. Good job benching Meeks all series. Gotta let Lou Williams keep the bulls alive, right?

couldn't agree more, Brewer's defensive advantage compared to an aging Hamilton easily makes up for the lack of an MVP caliber point guard in the playoffs

(thats sarcasm by the way, in case you're slow like jbrick)

Where is the e-man to tell us how bad the Nuggets are and how good the Lakers are?

Another classic Kobe game.

^^ you're an idiot. First of all stop calling Rose the "MVP". He won the "MVP" in the same season that a guy who sucked in the Finals won the "MVP" of the Finals. That award is a joke. Call it what it is. "A guy who scores a lot of points on the team that wins".

Brewer over Hamilton is about the equivalent as replacing Rose with Watson.

(admittedly, Watson is playing like ASS this series, so it's not quite equivalent if watson plays this poorly)

if you stuck to your statistical analysis without bias, like jay bilas calling a duke/unc game, i'd have more respect for you...but you can't let your personal hate for kobe continue to sway the way you evaluate basketball players, it makes you lose credibility

Quote :

i called Rose "mvp caliber" which he obviously is...also, it is actually a real award, so theres no need for quotation marks...and yes the voting for the MVP a joke, as is evidenced by kobe getting robbed from the award in 05

If only the NBA's coaches and general managers and media knew about your stats that show who the good and bad players really are...

because Kobe is letting Mcghee make every shot.

If Rose and Dirk are not good by your stats, then Kobe not being good by that formula is a great thing.

[Edited on May 9, 2012 at 1:09 AM. Reason : i think we can all agree that mvp candidates are the best players on their team]

Baseball teams are familiar with statistics also.

Rose was a very good player this year. And an above average one last year. (well, except for the playoffs where he sucked a huge dick against Miami)

Dirk isn't good. This is common knowledge. No one thinks Dirk is good anymore.

that was a pretty big win for me. I would've bought nicer whiskey if I knew the Nuggets were going to pull that one off.

Listen E-man. You're a total fanboy. You want to believe that the shoes with a $250k marketing campaign can make you jump higher and make you something that you're not. You want to believe that the Carmelo Anthony's and washed up Kobe's of the world actually matter in the NBA. In spite of 50 years of evidence you just can't bear that games are won/lost by Joakim Noah, Kenneth Faried, and Bill Russell. You think Andre Miller sucks and Monta Ellis is a superstar. There's no bothering with you. I actually like you. The fanboys out there are what makes the NBA playoffs the most profitable of all the seasons. I just hate talking to you.

I don't know who's ass you pulled this out of but you must have me confused with a different alias. Find me saying that because you won't.

I think all of those players have been great. McGhee and Faried have been the difference in this series by canceling out the Lakers front line. Miller could be stopped if Artest was guarding him instead of Blake. Obviously I think Noah is great. I had them winning it all before they lost their MVP.

Mcgee and Faried being better than the lakers front line this series so far is downright shameful. All of the pressure is on Kobe to score 45 to win when the frontline gets outplayed.

playing the percentages on bets, or as you prefer, the Wages of Wins, is usually good for >50% gambling odds

but that doesn't mean you can accurately and definitively rank basketball talent based on stats alone

if so Lebron would already have not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6...

Lebron is .300 territory. You're approaching God status.

It takes .5 to win a game even half of the time.

So even the best basketball player on the planet can only win 60% of a basketball game by himself ON AVERAGE.

Yes, you can on rare occasion play an incredible game and put up like a .6 WP/48. But even that's still a loss sometimes if you're surrounded by below average teammates like Kobe, Rip Hamilton, etc.

LOL at Marvin Williams. He is just another overhyped and pampered player that never developed any aggressiveness. Harrison Barnes is gonna be the same type of guy: a lotto pick, looks impressive on a roster, but just stands around looking for the open J.

JR Smith went 0-4 from the arc, which happens, he is a streaky shooter...sometimes he goes 4-6 from the arc

but 3-11 from inside the arc? not gonna cut it
