Idk about really good, but Harris and Mitchell are both juniors and will return. For some reason I thought they were seniors. The only player they lose really is Jontel Evans.

No, we won't be like UNC. We will suck next very badly in the post year, and our defense will once again be atrocious. Even if we can embrace small-ball and ALL of our perimeter players shoot better than expected from outside, we are still saddled with a short bench and an awful defensive coach. We can't play tight man D and Gottfried doesn't know the first damn thing about implementing a zone. Not to mention that Gott's high-post offense will sputter with a group of freshmen bigs and Vandy running it.

Virtually no chance at the tourney.

^None of that would have been any different with or without Purvis. We were always going to be thin and inexperienced in the post. Warren will undoubtedly play at the 4. No clue who else is down there though.

Purvis can play aggressive defense, and he shot well from outside in the first half of the year. He would've been our 3rd best player for next season. Now we have to hold our breath that Lee commits.

Now we need Cat Barber to fail to qualify, Tyler to transfer to be Harrow's backup at Ga. Southern, and TJ Warren to say "F THIS NOISE" and declare for the draft. The Jevoni and Vandy show will be in full effect.

With a somewhat disappointing season behind them, the basketball program at North Carolina State is attempting to look ahead to next year. There may not be too many familiar faces on the roster though.

First came word that Lorenzo Brown is likely jumping to the NBA. Now, C.J. Leslie is joining him. Those two alone combined for 27.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game. That's tough to replace under any circumstances. Fortunately for Mark Gottfried and his staff, they have a decent talent pool of underclassmen to rebuild from.

That talent pool is getting smaller though. It appears Rodney Purvis -- the No. 20 overall recruit in the nation for 2012 -- is going to transfer, according to beat writer Joe Giglio. The talented freshman played a significant role with NC State in his first season, averaging 8.3 points per game. He did see his minutes decrease as the year wore on though, and now looks to be headed elsewhere. Connecticut, among other schools, has been speculated as a possible destination to keep an eye on.

Wherever Purvis lands, the Wolfpack now have another key piece to replace. Lost in the shuffle is the fact that both Richard Howell and Scott Wood were seniors this past season, so they won't be available to contribute next year either. This is suddenly T.J. Warren's team (assuming he stays), as he is now the only player currently set to return to Raleigh that finished in the top six in minutes played or points per game in 2012-13. The one bright spot for the program right now is the fact that they have three ESPN 100 recruits -- including No. 23 overall prospect Anthony Barber -- set to join the fray next fall.

^^^^^^I remember a few interviews on Adam and Joe with Hodge prior to the start of the 2011-12 season. He talked Painter up a lot and it sounded like he worked a lot with him over that offseason.

PG - Barber/Lewis
SG - ?? (Turner or Barber, but they'd be miscast)
SF - Warren/Turner
PF - Washington/Jevoni
C - Anya/Vandy

On the bright side, I'm excited to see our 2013 FR grow and our 2013 new guys. Unfortunately, that fits the description of nearly the whole team.

IF we find a decent option for 2 guard, we'll be decent (def. not good) next year 1-5. But, we are painfully thin after that. We will struggle during substitutions and if (when) someone gets hurt.

Also, practice is gonna blow. We may as well show up and scrimmage the ladies team every day. At least they'd stand a chance of improving from it.

^^^^If we don't lose anybody else (which seems like a big if at this point), and Lee commits, I think we go relatively small next year.

PG: Lewis, Barber
SG: Lee, Barber
SF: Turner, ??
PF: Warren, Washington, Jevonni (for real)
C: Anya, Vandy, Washington, Jevonni

So he loved "every moment" at State, and was going to get tons of playing time next season. But he decides to transfer because he wants to play a position he has no feel for, and that we already have 2 guys slotted at next season. Way to go whoever helped him make this decision. Learn to hit some FT's and get under control on your drives to the basket and maybe he makes a big step in his year off.

Welp, it looks like we have an answer: Purvis wanted to play PG.

Quote :
"Because of the turnover, Purvis figured to be a key piece of State’s reloading effort next season. But according to a source within the program, his decision to leave was not based on projected playing time, but rather, his desire to play the point guard position.

Even with the loss of Brown, the Wolfpack is already well-stocked at that position with returning backup Tyler Lewis and incoming freshman Anthony “Cat” Barbour – both McDonald’s All-Americas – slated to take care of the ballhandling duties."

From an NBA standpoint, it kind of makes sense. Purvis is pretty short for NBA SG standards at 6'3. He's not particularly long either. His only real way to break into the league is to become a decent PG who beats people with athleticism (ala Russell Westbrook).

This ignores the fact that he's not a great ball-handler or passer ....

reality check mother fucker: if you play point guard at your new school as poorly as you did here when brown got hurt, you won't be playing point there either.
