He's improved things like his completion percentage every season. Not every QB who starts from game 1 of their rookie season is a 70% passer. 8/14/2014 12:35:25 PM |

Didn't his completion percentage decrease from 2011 to 2012?

Yeah dudes, Cam is the fucking man. At this point it's all about becoming more consistent with his accuracy and decision making. There were times last year he struggled to find the open receiver or overthrew them when he did, but Shula's conservative offense made those lapses seem worse than they were. One bad throw would stall a once promising drive or get picked due to our dipshit receivers playing volleyball. Hopefully this year we'll open it up a bit more with Benjamin and the TEs, leading to more overall offense and big plays, like his rookie year. 8/14/2014 6:08:40 PM |

Cam is so damn good it's ridiculous. I've been way wrong on this team several times, but I have a hard time seeing how they make the playoffs this year against the schedule they have and without any proven weapons on the outside. 8/15/2014 8:08:10 AM |

Agreed. I love Cam, but this is holding him back from being a great QB ... he's already a really good one. It's mainly just mechanics + adrenaline at the start of games. RW and Glennon both had this problem too
Pretty interested to see if the ankle gives him any trouble Sunday. If not, he could be even more electric this year. Crazy to think Cam has basically been playing on 1 1/2 ankles since he came into the league.8/15/2014 8:56:00 AM |

not surprisingly, cam is rusty as shit. fortunately, the defense looks like they're gonna be good to go for the most part. can't expect them to bail out a shitty pre-season offense every time 8/17/2014 8:56:08 PM |

- Cam started off rusty, but looked better once he got going - Avant (and Cotchery to some extent) have made multiple plays this week and last week that Lafell and Ginn wouldn't have made last year - Offensive line doesn't look so bad. They gave up an early sack, and their secondary caused a coverage sack, but the run blocking has been excellent 8/17/2014 10:31:19 PM |

Barner is basically worthless. Wouldn't surprise me to see him get cut. He isn't an effective runner and isn't as good as Philly Brown or Pilares as a returner.
Bersin is gonna make the team. Easily. Dude is a scrappy gym rat. High football iq. 8/18/2014 3:08:12 AM |

Yeah, he was always kind of a weird draft pick, Gettleman probably saw him as nothing more than a return man and a potential trade asset if he panned out at all. He was never going to be a great fit for the offense. 8/20/2014 1:43:41 PM |

Barner was like the 10th best Oregon RB in the last 6 years and we had 3 backs on the roster making a shitload. Drafting him was bizarre. 8/20/2014 2:46:00 PM |

Yeah, other than Benjamin, no one looked good. When Kuechly went out after the third series, the defense stopped communicating and we started getting gashed. I may have underestimated his importance to our defense, seems like he's the only vocal leader on the field. Offensive line and running backs were a dumpster fire after looking ok last week. The main takeaway is just how thin this team is, the lasting legacy of the cap strapped Hurney era. 8/23/2014 10:02:34 AM |

Benwikere played alright too. Didn't even notice Ealy, he might be a true bust, although rookie pass rushers generally struggle.
Eh, Ealy may have been out with an injury, although I don't remember reading about it.

Underwood cut. Thought he'd be solid for us after showing some potential for the Buccs, but must have had a horrible camp to get cut considering our lack of depth/experience at WR. 8/24/2014 9:24:34 AM |

Not really a surprise, at least to me. Benjamin, Avant and Cotchery are locks. Bersin has been impressive, so I think he's making the team. If I had to guess right now, I'd say Pilares would be the 5th guy because he is good at returns/not fumbling punts.
I don't know how many wrs the Panthers are gonna have on their active roster, but if it's 5, I'd bet on those 5. Pilares, McNutt, King and Underwood were basically battling for 1-2 roster spots. Somebody was gonna lose. 8/24/2014 10:11:13 AM |
Shrike All American 9594 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, it's probably going to be Benjamin, Cotchery, Avant, Bersin, Brown/King. We might carry 6 WRs, but there was no room for a guy you can't trust to catch the ball. Sucks we have to pay him but that's the chance you take when you shop for free agent scraps. Of the problem positions coming into the offseason, WR is probably the one I feel the best about. Safety is a real problem if Harper doesn't come back healthy and obviously OT will be a concern all season long. 8/24/2014 12:30:52 PM |

Lol I forgot about Brown. I don't think he makes the team unless they cut Pilares because of injury concern.
Benjamin Avant Cotchery Bersin King Pilares
That's my guess. 8/24/2014 1:01:18 PM |

I was about to type how I have no use for Pilares.. and saw that we cut his ass.
Excellent move to give one of the other WRs a chance to do something besides suck at kick returning.
We just cut:
WR: Pilares, Tiquan Underwood, Marvin McNutt, Toney Clemons T Oscar Johnson DL: Lindon Gaydosh, Alex Hall, Craig Roh LB: Anthony Morales P: Jordan Gay
4 more cuts to come by Tuesday
Leaves our WRs as:
Benjamin, Cotchery, Avant, Berson, King, Brown, Lucas 8/24/2014 2:46:50 PM |
