Lacey was bad the first 30+ minutes of the game. He redeemed the mythical "statistics" late in the 2nd half. Doesn't change that he had a bad game.

I'm simply pointing out the FACT that our best player played poorly until late in the game. When you live and die by Lacey and he doesn't do anything until the end of the game, your team might not win.

He's entitled to bad games too, btw. Doesn't change his ballerness. Just worth acknowledging that it's a major reason why we lost.

It's irrational to say he's the reason the team lost, but since he's the floor general he's responsible for orchestrating the offense. I wish he plays aggressively as that's when he uses his best attributes. He's not good running half court offense, but when he drives he can collapse defenses which opens up our offense. The offense relies too heavily on Turner/Lacey at times and when they're off shit hits the fan. With that being said, the defense is what ultimately cost us this game which is a team effort. UNC got way to many easy high percentage shots in the second half, way too many.

Never feels good to lose, especially to UNC. I was glad that they kept fighting and made it close at the end. We had been playing good defense the last four or five games but were terrible tonight. How many wide open lay ups did UNC get by the screener rolling to the basket?

We 'played our fannies off' for 4 minutes. Don't know what game you were watching. Letting the other team shoot 60% and get all their points from dunks is terrible.

The one thing UNC can't do is shoot, and we found a way to solve that problem for them.

Gonna have to get more out of Cat Barber going forward. Post offense was where we struggled early, but its come around decently in the last two games. Cat has been, for lack of a better word, bad, this season. When he has as many turnovers as assists, only scores 4 points and doesn't play defense until late...we're gonna need Trevor and Ralston to save us in every game. If one of them has a bad game, we're toast. If you want to be an above average team, your PG can't suck 90% of the time.

Sadly, after the year and a half hes been on the team, I don't see him magically getting better anytime this season.

i agree with the stuff about cat. it is so weird to have a pg who you have to take out on the offensive end in late of game situations. he needs to stop taking jump shots. the only things he needs to do are play defense, try to drive to draw a foul or layup, or run the offense for lacey/turner. he needs to realize that if he could be great if he just played lockdown defense for 30 min a game and just run point for the other guys - basically what he did when we made the run to get back into the game.

also, i am not trying to knock turner, he was the reason we got back into the game. but i didnt realize he was only 5-14 from 3. he seemed so much hotter. looking at the box score, i am surprised we were able to keep it so close going only 32% overall from 3.

Turner made some tough ones, but he missed some wide open ones. We don't get back in the game without him, but he definitely wasn't on fire or anything. Still would've been nice to have him the whole game instead of half.

Lacey struggled shooting, but you've got to give Tokoto credit. He was blanketing him the whole night and not letting him get in a groove.

Cat ... sigh. He just doesn't seem to have the instincts or wherewithal to be a good PG. He plays hard and he's got talent, but he just doesn't seem to have that natural "feel" for the game that PGs need. Our offense does him no favors though ... very little ball screens and almost zero driving lanes.

I think Abu played good for the most part. Washington hit some WTF shots, but we needed them. Everyone else was pretty mehhh.

this offense doesn't fit Cat's skillset. This offense needs a PG like Engin Atsur. Its why you see the offense run better with Lacey at the point. Every guard needs to be able to hit the outside shot in this offense. If you get one that can't, you have what Cat Barber is.

In a nutshell I feel like we lost for 2 reasons last night.

1. Paige is a scoring threat and Cat isnt
2. Their bigs can score around the rim and ours cant

Lacey and Turner were better than their counterparts mostly but we got eaten alive inside and obviously Paige dropping those 5 3's were the difference.

Zo Brown completely owned Paige just a few years ago.....

But Cat is not even close to Zo at this point. Very disappointing to have 2 McD's AA's not even be that good.

Seriously this was the most even called UNC game I've seen. The Anya block was bad, but other than that it was good. Even with Luckie and Dorsey (Shut the Fuck up - Gott).

We lost because Marcus Paige. He supposedly had a 200 rating last night on KenPom. That's the highest rating I've ever heard of. 23 points on 9 shots ... 9 assists and no TOs.

Tokoto locked Lacey up, and we had a few defensive breakdowns, but Paige won the game. Sucks he's played subpar all year until this game.

Here's why I don't feel bad about this game:

--Our best player couldn't get in a groove and only made 4 shots (1-6 from deep)

--Our only real scoring threat was in foul trouble almost the whole game (and didn't really shoot out of his mind, 5-12 from 3)

--Our PG did absolutely nothing on offense and their PG had the best game (ratings-wise) I've ever seen

And yet we had multiple chances to tie the game at the end. So basically, we didn't play great, they played fantastic, and we somehow had a chance to win at the end. Plus we played hard the whole game and didn't give up. That's all you can really ask for.

So yeah ... I like our chances playing at UNC, but we've got a long way to go before we get there.

Paige doesn't look like that anymore in any games, not just PNC. He is UNC's clutch player, and I'm frankly surprised at all the people who think he hasn't been playing at that level all season. Several of UNC's wins are credited to him alone.

Agreed, UNC should of beat us by double digits but they ended up pulling out a nail-bitter. Other then turn overs their offense played an excellent game and doubt they can play at a higher level. Our bigs actually played hard and out-hustled their players which gave us extra possessions. I see a close game in Feb and think we should eek it out.

It's because he hasn't. He was better last year, he wasn't even the best 3 point shooter on the team yet yesterday he played the best performance of his season. Some of that was Paige but some of that was Cat. I remembered clearly in the first quarter Barber went over instead of under the screen and Paige hit his favorite shot because of that. He also allowed Paige to get dribble penetration and easy assists.
