So with Perry out, the JV debate drops down to 4 people (Jindal, Santorum, Pataki and Graham)...these guys got to realize they're pretty well fucked, right?

The first 2 are probably waiting for electoral manna from heaven. if it's God's will that they win, that door will be opened, you know.

I rather be in the jv devate and get to talk about issues than that 11 person debate where trump gets 50%of the airtime. After bush carson and fiorina i dont see the other 7 getting more than a few minutes to talk.

they know they won't get elected and don't care about that, it doesn't pay enough anyways

Yeah, it's questionable how earnest a large chunk of the Republican field really is. That's probably not a good thing.

A letter from Gov Brown in CA to Dr. Ben Carson:

Because partisan politics had nothing to do with the sitting governor of one of our largest states sending out a letter to a presidential candidate from the other party regarding a partisan issue. I'm sure his constituents are now better off because of the time spent on this letter and subsequent efforts to publicize said letter.

When did people stop thinking around here and just reposting things that confirm their own bias?

I think the concern is that global warming shouldn't be a partisan issue.

Fine, but I think we can agree his letter was clearly motivated by partisan politics, right? And unfortunately partisan politics infects everything. But let's not pretend calling out Republicans for not "accepting" human impact on global warming isn't itself a partisan issue.

but isn't that Republicans fault for creating this religious ideology to deny and not even consider it in the face of any evidence

Or is it the fault of leftist ideologues who have a religious devotion to AGW and won't consider any evidence to the contrary?

You see what I did there.

I mean, I'll consider it, but something like 99.9% of peer reviewed studies support AGW.

yeah, you made a false equivalency

there are people on the left who have an ideology that goes beyond what is based in fact, but the reason this is a false equivalency is because this is not a significant party position and does not impact legislation or international agreements to anywhere near the degree that the right does.

the right has made climate change denial part of their american-flag-jesus brand of religion, they have embraced and encouraged that, so they don't get to then criticize people for pointing that out

I don't fault Trump for not being religious, but he can't answer a question correctly even with several days lead time.

Seems like he's used to having handlers take care of details for him, and he has lost the ability to think in a detail-oriented manner.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/16/middleeast/iran-nuclear-deal-republican-debate/index.html

Can some please explain all the Iranian treaty bashing and chest bumping directed to Iran from Republican candidates regarding the issue.

From what I understand the treaty:

- Forces Iran to shut down centrifuges and other programs that could be used for enriching Uranium. Enforcement
of this will be VERIFIED not assumed.
- Reduces Iranian stockpiles.
- Requires modification of the Arak facility to minimize plutonium
- Mandates international inspection of Iran nuclear facilities
- Sets up mechanism to re-instate sanctions if Iran fails to comply with treaty.

Essentially this treating isn't giving Iran something they did not already have or were working on developing (i.e. Uranium and enrichment uranium).
Eliminates current E.U. and U.S sanctions (since we all know how good sanctions worked for creating a regime change after 50 years of Cuban embargo).

So what is all this doomsday and bitching from republicans about? Are they mad that someone with a -D next to their name presided over the deal or is there some naïve thinking that by continuing sanctions Iran's people will spontaneously erupt into revolution and overthrow the government we don't like?

I don't see what any other alternative to this treaty is besides fueling up the jets and tanks to invade Iran. The status quo gives Iran no disincentive to continue their enrichment activities.

^^im all for the deal but to play devils advocate, the deal only lasts 15 years and isnt a comprehensive end to their nuclear program. I dont really care but it allows them to build up funds and defenses to be prepared to break out and build an unstoppable program much more quickly.

The alternative would be a more one sided deal where their program is dismantled completely and inspections are much more intrusive on Iran

Ill bite. Admittedly, Im not a fan of the deal. I think we gained too little in return for what Iran has gained. The sanctions were crippling the economy, and removing the sanctions gives Iran something in the neighborhood of US economy equivalent of $4Trillion. Thats roughly 1/4 of our outstanding debt. That type of capital inflow is huge for Iran, who has been proven to sponsor terrorist groups.

The US on the other hand, couldnt even negotiate getting 4 hostages out. But the core issue for me is that too much of this deal is based on trusting Iran, who has never honored a deal in their existence. They have ample time to hide any wrongdoings that IMO hinders the international community from having proper oversight.
