You know that I'm mostly with you on this. Especially the pathetic NotMyPresidnt and attacking Melania we've seen on here. That said, I do understand somewhat the other side. It's hard to be bigger when the GOP made it their explicit goal to obstruct Obama from day one.. and then seeing that being rewarded with full control of, well, everything. Now asking not to do that and be bigger is quite an ask. But if you really do think "your side" is better than that (it's not) you do have to show some restraint.
And I also vehemently disagree with your take on Bannon. The way he ran Breitbart alone is all cause I need for concern. That website, whether you want to admit it or not, was designed to capture BOTH anti-establishment and anxiety about others (whether it race, religion, skin color, place of origin).11/17/2016 8:41:08 AM |

Treating this election like a normal transfer of power to a man who made the most bombastic and hateful campaign promises is a bad strategy. And doing so in the name of civility is even more bankrupt. The time to resist him is NOW, not after he starts putting your fellow citizens on registries or deporting your neighbors, or silencing the media, etc. 11/17/2016 10:57:29 AM |

That Intercept podcast was a pretty smart take. Pence is more terrifying after listening to that but I have thought all along that Trump can only be as good as the people who surround him.
^ I meant "your side" not about you but about the left in general right now. They feigned outrage when no one gave Obama a chance and personally attacked him and now are doing the same thing. I don't mean that they shouldn't protest and criticize him immediately when warranted but flying off the handle on every cabinet rumor and attacking the First Lady is just ridiculous.

Remember, the racists don't go away, they just get smarter,
Quote : | "You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”" |
- Lee Atwater, former RNC chair and advisor to President's Reagan and H.W. Bush
"Economic anxiety" and "anti-establishment" is just the next iteration of what he was talking about.

In 1 survey 52% of trump supported belives whites were more evolved than blacks, so there is some basis to say most trump supporters are racist (30% of white Hillary supporters said the same thing).
But it's irrelevant now, trump is president half of white people are largely on the spectrum from very racist to racially ignorant/insensitive, this is the country we live in. We have to figure out how to fix problems while also working with the racists. This means, I think, ignoring racism in certain situations and trying to address it later. It's not a new conundrum but one that needs to be internalized until there are less racists out there. 11/17/2016 1:22:38 PM |

http://slatestarcodex.com/2016/11/16/you-are-still-crying-wolf/
This is an excellent article from someone on the left making the argument that calling Trump or Trump supporters "white supremacists" is a bad idea. It's a long read but important.
The gist of it is that Trump is probably less racist than any other Republican president in history, and there is no shortage of legitimate criticisms to lay upon Trump. He carefully goes through each of the big claims (David Duke, Mexicans are racists, etc). 11/17/2016 1:24:08 PM |

I dont disagree that the fringe has felt more empowered with Trumps campaign and victory. But to be fair, he has also empowered the best the left has to offer, such as these fine upstanding citizens below:

Whether or not they are actually racist, from an outsider's point of view, do you think most of them consider themselves to be racists? If not, what do you gain by forcing the notion down their throats? Nothing but more division. The way to move forward is to get to the root of their actual concerns, which is what Bernie did and is still trying to do. 11/17/2016 1:34:01 PM |

There's a pretty HUGE distinction that you are omitting, though. 8 years ago people on the right were afraid of things Obama NEVER said or promised. People were terrified that FEMA was going to round up whites, take away their guns, and that Jessie Jackson and Bill Ayers would be I the white house making policy decisions. This was nothing short of hysteria based entirely off of wild speculation. Today, people on the left are simply scared that Trump/Pence will actually do the things he promised to do.
Again, I can't stress this enough. This was not a normal election. When you run a campaign based off of racial fears and demagoguery, you should rightly be received with strong opposition. The fact that the ACLU received over $8 million dollars on donations in less than a week after the election should indicate the seismic shift that just occurred in the American political landscape.11/17/2016 1:36:41 PM |

Don't you risk hemorrahiging even more control trying to reach out to a side that simply doesn't want to? I don't know who mentioned it on here but there was some truth to the fact that every time Obama tried to compromise the net result was him being shit on and the GOP convincing the American people it was Obama who shit himself.

Quote : | "“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. I would lean towards disliking Bannon after the Michelle Fields "assault" incident that made Shapiro leave... but he isn't a "white supremacist who hates jews" or whatever bullshit the SJWs are parroting.
This is actually a microcosm of the election in a way. When the leftists and the liberal media become as discredited as they have been this election cycle, their baseless criticisms actually translate as praise to non-leftist viewers. So actually, if a bunch of SJWs are making baseless character attacks against Bannon, I fucking love the guy, he's my boy. This thing with Bannon - I don't get it. I don't know anything about the man other than what has come out recently. I've honestly checked out Breitbart maybe a total of 3 times in my life. But this is a case of the left crying wolf.
Come up with a serious list of issues why you don't think someone is qualified for the job for which they've being vetted. Lack of government experience? Check. Lack of probably willingness to reach across the isle? Check. (Although I don't know if there would even be isle reaching for the made-up job he's being considered for). But to immediately call him racist seems to fall right in line with how the left characterizes people they don't like.
They tried to make Romney into a subtle racist, and a bigot. You cry wolf too many times, and people stop to really listen to you. Then, when the real deal comes along, nobody believes you.
