But the race format will be different for the Driven2SaveLives BC39 USAC P1 Insurance National Midget Championship event Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6 on the Dirt Track at IMS. Quite different.

Short-track racing features a time-honored, traditional format consisting of heat races and “Main” qualifying races to set the grid for the 39-lap feature race, which will boast more than $70,000 in purse and incentives, including a $15,000 winner’s purse – the largest in Midget racing.

The system of heats and “Mains” creates almost a race within a race just to make the A-Main feature race, guaranteeing plenty of wheel-to-wheel action at all times.

Two days of track activity will start Wednesday, Sept. 5. All cars will draw for heat race positions and hot lap with their heat race. Two rounds of hot laps will be held, starting with the final heat and snaking back to conclude with the final heat.

Heat races will be 10 laps each, with the starting lineups determined by random draw. Points for the heats will be accumulated by finishing position and total number of positions gained or lost. Cars will be positioned into qualifying races Thursday based on the points accumulated in Wednesday’s heats.

On-track action Thursday, Sept. 6 will start with hot laps, as all cars will practice with their respective qualifying races.

All cars are eligible for the qualifying races, with up to 12 cars competing per race. Qualifying races will be 10 laps each, with top-six starting positions inverted with the top point earner from Wednesday’s heat races starting sixth. Total points from the heat races and qualifying races will be added to set the feature starting lineup, along with transfers from the B-Main, C-Main and front of the D-Main races. The top 16 overall in accumulated points will start straight-up in the first eight rows of the feature.

G-Main: 10 laps. Includes cars 87th or higher in points, with the top four finishers transferring to the F-Main.

F-Main: 10 laps. Includes cars 73rd through 86th in points, plus the top four finishers from the G-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the E-Main.

E-Main: 10 laps. Includes cars 59-72 in points, plus the top four finishers from the F-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the D-Main.

D-Main: 12 laps. Includes cars 45-58 in points, plus the top four finishers from the E-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the C-Main.

C-Main: 15 laps. Includes cars 31-44 in points, plus the top four finishers from the D-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the B-Main.

B-Main (Semi-Feature): 20 laps. Includes cars ranked 17-30 in points, plus the top-four finishers from the C-Main. The top six finishers transfer to the night’s A-Main feature event.

The 39-lap A-Main feature will have 22 starters, plus two USAC provisional starters (if applicable) and two IMS options.

"Your new CEO of NASCAR, Lesa France Kennedy..."

So will all the various talking head NASCAR shows on their Sirius channel, NBCSN, Fox, talk about this or ignore it?

NASCAR announces interim chairman and CEO is Jim France.

Adam Stern says Jim negotiated the purchase of ARCA and went to Le Mans to "work on a project for IMSA".

^The Le Mans deal probably has to do with prototype regulations. I just read today that Ford and Ferrari both skipped a meeting with the FIA that will probably set the LMP1 regulations. They don't want to do prototype racing unless WEC and IMSA LMP1/DPi cars are the same.

Sadler and Kahne stepping away from full time racing.

Don't know who JRM will bring in, or if one main stays with the team, but I think LFR becomes a JGR affiliated team and Christopher Bell takes the seat.

Alonso leaving F1. Rumors center around sportscars and driving for McLaren in Indycar.

Danny Ricciardo leaving Red Bull for Renault. Carlos Sainz moving from Renault to McLaren to take Alonso's seat.

Dixon resigned by Ganassi. True proper bidding war for him as McLaren wanted him. He will be making money in Indycar unseen since the CART days.

Kurt Busch leaving Stewart-Haas in 2019, rumored to be taking Mcmurray's ride at Ganassi. Can't say I disagree with Chip if he makes that move.

Anyone else going to VIR tomorrow? I heard they have jumbo trons, so you'll be able to follow the entire race. I'm excited!

On a side note, Ganassi Racing won the Xfinity race last night. Tonight he has cars entered in the Cup race. Tomorrow he has cars entered in the Indy, IMSA, and WEC races. It'll be interesting to see if they go 5-0 this weekend.

it seems like the racing has gotten really, really good since the switch from Fox to NBC for whatever reason. Maybe the type of tracks since we're seeing different tracks like Pocono, watkins glen, bristol, new hampshire(which i think normally sucks), michigan.....we haven't had one of those 1.5 cookie cutters in a while...which is always a good thing.

Imagine if they replaced one or two of the charlotte/texas/atlanta races with north wilkesboro and rockingham. My God...i'd cream my pants. I watched an old race at Rockingham on youtube the other day and that place just had so much damn character. its a shame they don't still run there. There isn't a track on the circuit like it

^I went to the IMSA race at VIR today. Pretty cool! It was an actual stock car race. Those cars look like the street legal versions. I wish NASCAR would get back to racing actual stock cars. Dodge needs to come back too!

Atlanta is awesome. It chews tires, so it's not like the other 1.5 mile tracks. The 600 isn't going anywhere and the fall Charlotte race is on the Roval. Obvious answer is to move the all-star race around. Run it at Iowa or Kern County, for example. They definitely should only go to Las Vegas, Texas, and Pocono once a year.

^^^There have been some really good races since the NBC switch, but I'm starting to wonder if the coverage itself has something to do with it. Maybe some of the Fox races would have seemed better if they'd shown more action further back rather than playing follow-the-leader as much. And maybe Dale Jr's genuine enthusiasm is affecting my perception more positively than DW's corniness making me roll my eyes and switch to the radio broadcast.

I was at the Richmond spring race and thought it was above average, even if it wasn't great, but the Reddit opinions the next morning thought it stunk.

Speaking of nascar reddit...read an interesting "scoop" about this offseason...

Apparently according to some guy...kyle busch will leave JGR this offseason and bring KBM up to Cup and drive the 54 for his own team. Kurt busch will leave SHR snd join KBM in a 2 team effort bringing monster with him as a sponsor. MTJ will leave front row and they will liquidate as MTJ goes to JGR fulltime. KBM will get front rows charter and one other lowly team that likely wont be racing next season(cant remember which). KBM would basically become Front Row with their alliance to JGR except it will be easier since they will also be based out of NC. Cole custer or matt kenseth would go into the empty SHR seat which would prolly change to #00.

Definitely interesting stuff. No idea if its trustworthy or will happen, but fun silly season stuff to debate either way

Quote :
"The outer bounds of political correctness

We have reached the far, far, far boundaries of political correctness. We learned that Lilly Diabetes has pulled it's sponsorship of NASCAR’s Conor Daly car this weekend because, as WTHR’s John Stehr reports, his father allegedly used the N-word nearly 35 years ago. “Before Conor was born.” Unbelievable.

So we’re watching careers, altered, destroyed and end for quotes made decades earlier, by comments made in private meetings, by comments taken completely out of context, by people making uncorroborated allegations of reported slurs, and now this.

We also witnessed an IndyStar columnist insist that “white people” stop using the N-word. We think everyone should stop using the N-word. - Brian A. Howey, publisher"

Editorial from the journal of record for Indiana politics (the Dalys and Lilly are in the Indianapolis area, although Derek's a native Irishman).

I really don't understand how this is Conor's fault.

Also, best throwback paint scheme of the ones up at Jayski is the #00 Bobby Allison throwback. You'll get to see it every time the car gets lapped.

Not sure how it looked on tv, but the xfinity race today was great in-person. What is the consensus on the 98/42 incident? Looked to me like the 42 was against the wall and the 98 came up on him. Can't expect a guy in Chastain's position to lift in that scenario.

Looked like harvick expected chastain to slow up behind the lapped car. Chastain had other plans and took it 3 wide. He made it work too, harvick didnt expect it, lost his edge and put chastain in the wall. Chastain retaliated and ended harvicks day. Harvick did normal harvick stuff and called out chastain instead of taking responsibility.

Larson got robbed. Late debris caution was a bullshit scheme by NASCAR to get more cars back on the lead lap. I honestly think the 96 spin was phoned in too.

^there was a huge ass chunk of metal/fiberglass/something on the track that two cars ran over...one of them being larson. It was still just in the groove when nascar threw the yellow. That was definitely warranted.

Also, im gonna guess that you havent watched jeffrey earnhardt much if you dont think he can just spin out on his own. The only reason he is even near a car is because of his last name.

definitely says a lot about the state of the sport when the defending championship team, which is currently a frontrunner for this year's championship, can't secure the funding to run next year. i'd love to know how much that JGR alliance costs FRR.

Motorsport in general has never handled recessions well.

Word is it was already agreed in private that Truex and his crew chief will move to Gibbs, replacing Daniel Suarez.

Barney Visser right or wrong will go down as a Rod Osterlund.

On the other side, the IMS dirt track race, the BC39, has 118 entries, a USAC record. (The Chili Bowl regularly gets 200+, but that's not a USAC event.) 2-day affair that starts tonight. NBC Sports will broadcast a tape-delayed version of events on Friday night.

NASCAR guys racing are Stenhouse, Christopher Bell, J.J. Yeley, Chase Briscoe, Landon Cassill.

Guy at Racing Forums, so take with a grain of salt:

Quote :
"Now that the announcement is finally out and I have spent time in darlington this weekend with FRR I kinda got more of a grasp on how it fell apart in just a few weeks. Here is mainly how I can explain what I was told by someone very close to Barney. Barney agreed to run next year with a strict budget. The deal was in place for that budget for a year. MTJ wanted more money and more then a one year contract. Barney said let’s go one year so that gives enough time to regroup and find a new sponsor. MTJ went behind Barney’s back and signed the deal with JGR on Thursday. Friday all members at the track were told the real deal and to accept offers as FRR would close. This had nothing to do with Barney’s health nor the quadrupled price of JGR alliance fee because Barney was going to pay it for at least one year to give them time. But, when your driver leaves and takes the rest of sponsorship, crew and all it left them with no choice. All deals have deadlines and they were up.

As for the 95...JGR has teamed up to now do the alliance with the 95 like they did with FRR. Since they have basically took them out of business they now are giving the alliance to another team. I’m sure to strong arm them in the future if needed like they did FRR in my opinion. From what I know the 95 will have Suarez as the driver and will run Toyota. Now I have heard Arris is not liking something about the whole deal.

The 19 will be the whole car crew from the 78. The team basically will stay in tack so you will have the 78 team just under JGR number 19. So, instead of buying out FRR he just hit the delete button and got the team. It’s a sad day anyone has that kind of monopoly!

The deal could have worked but Truex decided to go get that dangled carrot that had more money attached that’s rumored and is my opinion. It’s sad and really thought of him as a better person then that. Lost tons of respect for him as dumping a team that made him a champion. A driver don’t do it alone."

If that is the truth or close to it, I can't really blame Truex. Unless you're driving for Roger Penske, being loyal to a lesser situation in auto racing is a great way to ensure your future irrelevance.

As for Suarez, I wonder if Carl Edwards smiled.

Not to mention if true he is taking care of his whole crew correct? So doesn’t that go counter to that guys opinion he realizes it’s more than just him and found a way to take care of himself and his whole crew. Visser will be fine in life(and financially) this is no different than a free agent in any sport going to get paid and he’s taking care of his crew too.
