plenty, what do you wanna know?

if you have to have a physical keyboard right now, it's the best android ATT has with one right now.

exactly...it's a tablet designed to be only just powerful enough to perform ereader functions, hence the higher-than-ereader/significantly-lower-than-tablet pricing

anyone know of a good radio app for Android?

Specifically, one that lets you select a city/state and look at all the stations in that area? There was one like that for iPhone, but I can't find anything so far on Android

nevermind, I found it. Its called TuneIn

So what is the best deal on an android tablet right now?

The Galaxy Tab is awesome but I am not gonna spend $599 (enough to buy a kickass notebook or desktop) on a tablet computer.

^^^There's also iheartradio

^you talking about the viewsonic one? it's not bad, but again, I'd wait for a tablet optimized by honeycomb. 2.2 and below really isn't intended for tablet use

It has an 800MHz Cortex A8, 512MB RAM, 8GB storage + MicroSD, multi-touch, etc. Not blowing the doors off anything but it's far from just barely enough to be an e-reader. And it's only $250. At least makes it a fun, cheap tablet to mess around with (and read books).

For anyone who is looking to get an Epic on Sprint (either upgrade or new line), radioshack.com has a special going on. The Epic is $179.99 (Sprint has it at $249.99 after MIR).

Hope the link works, if not just go to radioshack and search for the Epic. I read somewhere (don't remember where though) that it only runs for a few days.

Why's that?

I've played with it and it seems quite nice. The people I know who have it seem to enjoy it. I'm sick of this Moment being slow as balls and being funky with signal, and I don't see anything new coming to Sprint in the pipeline for a few months at least.

I have ordered it, so hopefully I won't regret it

the people i know who have it are having problems with simple things like making phone calls

the dev community has all but given up on the phone waiting for a better version of their 2.2 ROM to come out so there's not even much you can fix with rooting. very limited choice in ROMs and nobody's developing home brewed fixes for it.

community isn't important to everyone but that's why i wouldn't recommend it. the evo on the other hand has a thriving dev community and you don't feel limited at all by the soft keyboard once you see some of the things these guys have done like ShareKeyboard, SMS2PC, and the plethora of other keyboard options out there like Swype, SlideIT, Ultra Keyboard Pro, as well as the huge goddamn screen that your thumb has to hit a key on.

while the hardware of the screen and the proc on the epic is more impressive on paper, in practice it's very poorly used.

hope that doesn't make you regret your purchase, but you asked so i told ya haha...those things are important to me, but may not be to you.

Custom ROMs aren't that important to me at this point. Hopefully by the time I'm considering looking at non-official ROMs 2.2 has been released and the community has gotten a bit more strength; but if not, oh well.

I liked the Evo too, but I really like having the physical keyboard. That and the Epic did seem more responsive when I was playing with them side by side. Not much, but it was noticeable at some times. I've used Swype on my phone and its nice, but I still find myself typing out longer emails/messages/texts with the physical keyboard... I'm just more accurate with it. Maybe with a larger screen, I'll be better with a virtual one.

And I haven't heard anything about having issues making calls or other simple things like that (well other than GPS lag, but thats a known issue).

I probably won't regret the purchase, but you never know. There are lemons out there. If I do regret it though, I'll post in here to warn others.

So I know this has less to do with Android and more to do with Barnes and Noble, but since there's a lot more of the Android know-how in here than the other e-reader thread, I wanted to ask...

From experienced Android users, do you think it's going to be feasible to see more open-access to Android content on the Nook Color tablet in the future, either officially or through fan-manipulated content? I'm considering a Nook Color, and the idea of an Android-based community pushing new content for it would be great to me.

not sure about all the Epic hate. Everyone I know that has one loves it granted they aren't what I'd call tech nerds. Touchwiz really isn't that bad and feels a lot better than the no-blur shit that motorola is putting out and Touchwiz 3.0 looks nice. The only issue is the slowness of updates that Samsung is notorious for but the phone operates perfectly fine as is with a few issues like the laggy gps, etc. I had my OG rooted and overclocked with custom roms/kernels but haven't felt the need with the Fascinate. Aside from rooting, adding ADW and getting rid of Bing, I've done nothing else and am quite pleased with the performance.

I agree... I have one, and I love it. I looked at the other galaxy phones, the iphone4, and the evo, and the epic did the best for me. Granted, I did have a problem with the firmware at first, but I got it fixed, and now have all the updates, and everything runs great (don't even have any of the problems with GPS that you hear about sometimes). The only thing I honestly don't like about it is how big the case makes it.

alright, so since I didn't really add any substance to my post - are there any essential add ons or quick fixes I should do? One thing I've ran into is I can't remove and of the pre-installed spamware, and the internet says I need to 'root' my device. Is that safe/necessary?

yeah, you'd need to root to get rid of the bloatware Verizon sticks on their phones. And rooting opens the door for a lot of other things.

Froyo leak for Epic
Quote :
"Official Epic 4G Froyo build leaks out (it's likely a test build, though)
Posted on Saturday, Dec 4, 2010 by Phil Nickinson

For those of you dying to get your hands on an official Android 2.2 build for the Sprint Epic 4G, it looks like one has found its way onto at least one phone. The update, which appears to be build DK28, brings the phone up to Android 2.2.1. Doesn't look like it's being pushed to a large number of phones yet -- in fact, the total as we see it so far is one, and it appears to be a dev unit -- so everybody stay tuned."

root is completely safe and pretty easy to do. just be careful about what you do after root (what you delete, what mods you do) because while you can always flash back stock, it can be a pain if you remove something you actually need. if you aren't really sure of what you're doing stick to guides people make on the internet

yeah. There's 0 chance that WP7 is anywhere near the number of apps available on Android.

And looks like Dolphin plans to release a new browser. It's speedy but I like the old interface better.
