^^^^His buyout isn't extraordinarily prohibitive. I think I heard somewhere around $2MM.
^^^If this is an actual reason, let's just fire her now and move the process along. If we aren't moving forward, we are moving back.
It's been decided. DD is a bad coach. I don't understand why we insist on wasting resources on him.

As opposed to wasting resources on someone else? Admit it, the FB program is a black hole. Him staying or leaving makes no difference. Whatever saves us the $. And no, the season ticket sales next year will not be affected if he stays. Suckers will still show up on Saturdays next year.11/18/2016 12:13:23 PM |

At least with the Wake Forest win, we finally have a win over a P5 opponent that will finish the season with a winning record.
I still think we have a chance to get one win between UNC and Miami. 11/18/2016 12:19:23 PM |

Anyone will agree that the FB program is a black hole. But if UNC and Duke can play for a conference championship, then I have hope we can too one day. the difference in our programs (other than the blatant cheating at UNC-CH) is that they were able to find a capable coach. We are 0-4 in that department since Sheridan. 11/18/2016 12:19:51 PM |

Just looked at our opponents for next year. Way too early but YOLO:
Non-Conference: Neutral: South Carolina Home: Marshall, Furman Away: Notre Dame
Conference: Home: Clemson, Louisville, Syracuse, North Carolina Road: Boston College, Florida State, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh
We might become a much better team next year but have a similar record... 11/18/2016 12:33:12 PM |

We could seriously go 2-2 OOC and 2-6 in ACC with that schedule. Marshall has been good until this year under Doc Holliday. He had a string of 3 10 win seasons in a row before this year and went 13-1 in 2014.
[Edited on November 18, 2016 at 2:30 PM. Reason : On that note what about him as HC here? Good recruiting record and is 4-0 in bowls at Marshall] 11/18/2016 2:29:35 PM |

The setup of the divisions almost certainly dooms any coach regardless. We can incrementally close the gap on those schools but we aren't catching FSU, Clemson, or Louisville anytime soon. Leaves us with little to promote to recruits, I am just not sure what you sell at this school. Everyone has good facilities, upgrading stadiums all over the country, academics aren't anything amazing for those students interested(not terrible but certainly not Duke, mostly on par with the rest of the ACC), unless we find a hotbed of 350lb wannabe veterinarians and engineers... aside from getting paid a lot of money to coach football, I think NC State might be one of the worst D1 football jobs in the country. And if anyone ever does come here and find success it will be such an impressive thing to do that they will get plucked by the SEC/bigger schools so fast we'll barely have time to even enjoy the success. 11/18/2016 2:47:56 PM |

At this point we might as well keep him as the program is not worth the buyout. Yes, we play in a tough division, but honestly I don't think our record would be much better in the coastal. Yes, we have Louisville, Clemson, and FSU in our division, but at least we typically get the easy wins of WF and Syracuse to inflate our record. Doeren have already lost to most of the teams in coastal, and after several seasons of coaching I think we have saw his potential. We will have some pretty good performances but the ceiling tends to be a mediocre to poor season. Hope he can pull off a win against Miami or UNC. 11/18/2016 3:01:21 PM |

FSU - Fisher could leave for LSU Clemson - Dabo eventually probably replaces Saban Louisville - Petrino could go back to the NFL or have another motorcycle accident
Clemson before Dabo wasn't great, we have routinely beat FSU, and Louisville without Jackson would be average. I mean we have beaten all three of these schools in the last five years.11/18/2016 3:08:45 PM |

and that's exactly what we said this year. and it's true. but it's frustrating.
next year should be DD's best team. but he's got a long ways to go to quell fans' pessimism about him. it'd take a breakout year - 9-3 or something like that, next year to really win back most of the fan base that he's lost11/18/2016 3:34:21 PM |

You say this as if sports isn't cyclical. Teams get good, teams get bad. Remember, when FSU was unbeatable, just like Alabama is now? We just need to try to get ourselves in position to challenge when the good teams inevitably falter. If we fired Doeren after 0-8, we'd be 3 years into the rebuild, instead we have to hold onto this guy for another year (why, again?)11/18/2016 3:54:11 PM |

great teams don't get bad. they just have slightly down years in between contending for national titles. FSU will pretty much always be a top 15 team or better. sure, there may be a down year while they reload. so you're right that we need to be positioned to capitalize on those "down" years. but it's not like FSU will suddenly turn into a 6-6 program. they'll be 9-3 every few years. then they'll go back to being 11-1. so i agree with you...but i guess i'm just quibbling over the wording a bit. it's only "cyclical" in the sense that the elite teams reload and go from 12-0 to 9-3. elite teams will basically always be elite.11/18/2016 4:30:15 PM |

clemson wasn't a national power for a long time. they were the definition of average under bowden. then they hired dabo and he prayed to god and they got a great football team. 11/18/2016 4:55:34 PM |

lol virginia tech wasn't really ever "elite". they were above average for a long time, but had one season with michael vick where they challenged for a title. 11/18/2016 5:04:03 PM |

^^fair enough...(and ^ is right, but your point remains). i guess a better way to say that is, elite teams will always have the inside track to remaining/regaining elite status. even if FSU sucks ass for 5 years, we still have to recruit against that elite name. or if they go through a rough patch, they're still one coaching search away from potentially being right back to their elite status because teams like that will pretty much always be able to land better coaches than teams like us too.
but like i said, i agreed with the overall point of that post. mostly just took exception to the phrasing since, to me, "cyclical" implied an aspect of luck and everybody gets a turn at some point. but yeah...i was just bored and looking to argue at the end of a long week.

Completely agree with your assessment as well. But when I say cyclical, I dont think it has anything to do with luck or fortune. So much goes into a program reverting back to "the mean" that it inevitably happens to every program. Except FSU. Even their worst year in the mid 2000's, they won 8 games. They are a fucking machine, even above Alabama. 11/19/2016 10:30:27 AM |

it shouldn't be a surprise that the team lacking depth has a drop off in execution during the 2nd half. it happens every game but shows we have good gameplanning but talent usually overcomes coaching.
my biggest gripe is never switching qbs after half a season of lackluster offense. 11/19/2016 2:52:47 PM |
