The gun I want isn't going to last long so I'm putting a combo type deal on this. I have a Charter Arms AR-7 that I will add to the deal with the FNP. Like new FNP9s are selling for anywhere from $400-$500 at some local dealers and the AR-7s are going for 200+ so I think $575 or best offer is reasonable. But as always I'll trade for a Sig or make me an offer! 8/19/2012 8:03:02 PM |

Is anyone else here very opposed to buying a rifle that isn't NIB?
I'm totally down with used pistols and shotguns, but with rifles, where I want great accuracy and slight defects can negatively impact it, and I've seen how few people really know hot to clean and care for a rifle, I'm just not sure I could every roll the dice on it.
*i guess I would on a .22 plinker/short-range rifle (say, a lever-action .444 Marlin with iron sights, etc) 8/22/2012 11:43:36 PM |

anyone ever had trouble with the transfer of a firearm from anyone on tww? had a guy lined up to buy my ruger but when i asked about his purchase permit this is what i got as a response?
. . . "I believe all I have is a copy of the permit. It is also my old address. I bought several permits back in 2008 when I was still in college and my permanent address was my parents house. I scanned them all in for keeping, and have never had a problem when purchasing."
i'm not trying to bash or put this individuals personal business out there but when i asked for a copy of the permit so that i could verify with that county's sheriffs dept, the individual did not reply.
i could care less what you do with a firearm but when my name is on the registered serial number i believe i have every right to get as much info as possible from someone that i may be transferring said ownership to.
hypochondriac? absolutely but i'm not going to apologize but i'd love some feedback

you don't have to verify anything with the sheriff's dept.
they are required to give you the original copy of the purchase permit. you are supposed to verify that the name (and address, too, i guess) on the permit matches their driver's license. most folks keep the permit for their records, but that isn't really required either iirc. 8/23/2012 7:13:05 PM |

Would I need a PPP if I were taking in a handgun in lieu of cash? For example I have my Kahr for sale on here (and other places) and have had some people offer a cheaper gun + cash to buy my Kahr. Would I, as the seller, need a PPP as well in that situation?

§ 14-406. Dealer to keep record of sales.
(a) Every dealer in pistols and other weapons mentioned in this Article shall keep an accurate record of all sales thereof, including the name, place of residence, date of sale, etc., of each person, firm, or corporation to whom or which such sales are made, which record shall be open to the inspection of any duly constituted State, county or police officer, within this State.

Here:
14-409.39. Definitions.
The following definitions apply in this Article:
(1) Dealer. Any person licensed as a dealer pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 921, et seq., or G.S. 105-80.
(2) Firearm. A handgun, shotgun, or rifle which expels a projectile by action of an explosion.
(3) Handgun. A pistol, revolver, or other gun that has a short stock and is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand. (1995 (Reg. Sess., 1996), c. 727, s. 1.) 8/24/2012 10:55:23 PM |

What kind of gun? What state are you in?
In NC, you as the seller don't need a permit to SELL a handgun (pistol). The buyer needs a permit to purchase one though.
Rifles (most) and shotguns do not require a purchase permit.

you don't need anything to sell them. the buyer will need a Handgun Purchase Permit or a Concealed Handgun Permit. you cannot sell to someone from another state without going through a Federal Firearms Licensee.
btw, i think you inherited them, right? you legally should've had a HPP or CHP to obtain them, even though you didn't buy them and you simply got them as part of an estate.

That's a different article. You're in 53B and I'm in 52A. The way I understand it is that most of the smart folks have interpreted the NC statutes to require a private seller to keep records of who they sell a firearm to. My Libertarian side agrees with people that say that if they can show you a pistol permit or concealed carry permit, and an acceptable form of ID, you don't need to record anything. The sheriff gave them a permit to buy a pistol, so you're covered.
My middle-ground sense says that if you sell a single pistol to a single person, it's no big deal no matter what you do. If you sell 20 pistols to the same person, you prob wanna hang on to some ID from that person.8/26/2012 7:05:54 PM |
darkone (\/) (;,,,;) (\/) 11610 Posts user info edit post |
^ It's more an issue of what they do once you sell it to them. They may have had a permit but the person they sell to might not. If you don't have a record of the sale then it's your neck. 8/26/2012 8:40:39 PM |
NeuseRvrRat hello Mr. NSA! 35376 Posts user info edit post |
no, it's not. you are in no way responsible for what the buyer or any subsequent buyers does with a firearm. ensure that they have the proper credentials to purchase and be done with it.
i still haven't found any law that says the seller must retain documentation after a private party sale.
[Edited on August 26, 2012 at 8:45 PM. Reason : if anyone can find the law, please post it.]
this sort of attitude is the same reason there are folks requiring you to show a HPP or a CHP for a long gun sale. it's fucking ridiculous.

^^ Then how to you prove that you're not the one who sold it to the Nth buyer down the line who can't legally possess a weapon or whatever scenario leads to a police detective knocking at your door? I'm not saying that you should require people to show CCH permits or PP permits for long gun sales, but I don't see how not retaining records of sale does anything but open you up to liability. 8/26/2012 10:42:15 PM |
NeuseRvrRat hello Mr. NSA! 35376 Posts user info edit post |
if you wanna cover your ass, by all means, do so
but the discussion is whether or not the seller is required by law to retain such records
if you're gonna CYA on handguns, then why not on long guns? why not on knives? baseball bat?
it's a slippery fucking slope

I have two glock holsters that I am trying to get rid of. $35 each
The first is the Comp-Tac 2 o'clock (left hand) for sub-compact glocks:
The second is Comp-Tac's replacement for the 2 o'clock (right hand). It has two clips, so you can adjust the depth that it sits. This fits the compact frame glocks:
