THE VP gives council to the POTUS and obviously takes over should they die in cases of very old presidents like Reagan, and possibly McCain. Personally, I think the VP should always have strengths that help minimize the weaknesses of the Presidential candidate, but they need to at least be fucking competent because shit does happen.
McCain is old, it's obviously a factor for a lot of people, but he could have minimized it by picking someone like Romney or anybody who wasn't going to embarrass themselves and their ticket. 11/4/2008 12:38:34 PM |

Except for the small fact that he has ALWAYS voted for increased gun control. Always. Look up his voting record on the issue. This is definitely an issue I can see congress pushing in a year or so and Obama signing off on it, or better yet not vetoing it so he can say, "I didn't do it." even though he could have stopped it.11/4/2008 12:49:30 PM |

^ if you go to a gun club and talk to people, you will find that a lot of them are buying "gun tubes". Literally, plastic or metal tubes/pipes that they can put their guns in, seal them, then bury them. The NRA's fear-mongering has reached a point where their members are literally burying their guns because they think Obama is going to take them. 11/4/2008 12:58:53 PM |

Exactly. Anybody who says they're almost as confident with Biden as president as they are with Obama is either an idiot or a partisan hack. Biden is a freaking moron. Hate Palin all you want but don't act like Biden is THAT much better. Just listen to a little of his sound clips in the past few months, he doesn't know when to shut the hell up. So when he makes stupid comments, we should forgive it because he's an experienced senator? If any thing, I think he should be held to a higher standard for stupid comments than a newcomer like Palin, but of course I only think that because I'm a partisan hack myself, amirite. For all the talk about McCain making a bad decision with Palin's selection (which he did), there should be a little more said about Biden's selection, considering there were plenty of other choices that would have been better.11/4/2008 12:59:51 PM |

Biden was 4th or 5th in the Democratic primaries. Palin was nonexistent until she was nominated for VP. Seriously, look at their educational backgrounds and tell me Palin is anywhere close to qualified to hold the highest office in the land. There is absolutely no contest between anyone and Palin. She is 100% completely unqualified to be President (at this point in time. In the future, with more experience, she may possibly be qualified). 11/4/2008 1:15:40 PM |

Biden has a tendency to say dumb things from time to time, but considering how he comes off knowledgeable a large majority of the time, it's hard to think of him as much worse than a guy who doesn't have a good filter between his brain and his mouth.
Meanwhile, Palin hasn't shown she's competent enough to run a PTA, much less be the second most powerful person in the country. 11/4/2008 1:37:10 PM |

^^ Yeah, it's mostly just the interview. The debate where she said nothing of substance and getting pranked by a comedy duo and her tour of the Idaho community college system probably shouldn't factor into your opinion of her capabilities. 11/4/2008 2:25:32 PM |

^^^ I never saw the COuric interview, and from the clips posted online, I defended Palin, on the basis Couric essentially was asking trick questions or meaningless questions.
My first exposure to Palin was from a Alaska governor debate, and i found her attitude pretty disturbing there too.

i meant to be out at an early voting site now, i called my local democratic party hq (in this case Orange County) and asked where help was most needed, & they said they have the least volunteers at a voting location near a fire station a few miles from where i live. i headed out there and there were 8 orange county democratic party volunteers. i stood out there for over an hour giving out materials, but then i decided that if i'm going to be of little value, i might as well be of little value at my own voting location where i might see some of my neighbors (i'm about to head there now, i was so close to home i figured i check in & look at the internets) 11/4/2008 3:33:28 PM |

She couldn't name a newspaper.
Forget the inability to name another supreme court case.
Forget about the "I can see Russia from Alaska" comments.
She couldn't name a newspaper.
On top of that, all newspapers are named the same thing. Just say "post". Say "observer". Say "Tribune". Fuck, say "National Enquirer".
She may as well have said that she has many leatherbound books and her office smells of rich mahogany.

It's hard to be neutral when a guy who lied about his profession, income bracket, and doesn't even pay taxes is trying to lecture you on principles.
edit: Went looking for the Sanchez and Plumber interview, but I guess it's still too soon. I did dig up this gem though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yO9BJbn-fNw

there seems to be a misconception about what "neutral" means or what the role of the media is. If someone is a complete idiot, then it's the media's responsibility to call them out on it! If someone says that he thinks voting for Obama is voting for "the death of Israel", then he deserves to be rakes across the coals trying to defend that statement11/4/2008 4:12:33 PM |
