St josephs went undefeated in 2004 with jameer nelson, delonte west, and Carroll.

Unlv did in 1991 too with LJ, Greg Anthony, and augmon.

Perhaps a few others that I can't recall

Hey guys, remember Sidney Lowe's last year when I told you in December we would go 5-11 in the ACC and he'd get fired?

Yea, TreeTwista didnt believe it

Is it me or is Scrumples the worst user in every bball thread. We get it, man. No need to keep bringing up random players/games from the Herb and Lowe eras that have no relevance to... well, anything.

This guy knows what he is talking about. Based on our scoring we are at least 5 deep.

I'm sure he means scoring depth, which is an actual thing. In any case, we do legitimately have 6 guys who can go off for 20+ on any given night (all but Purvis have, and he's had two 16 point outings) which is pretty damn uncommon.

from everyone's favorite, seth greenberg:
Quote :
"Based on how they've played their past five games, I think the Wolfpack are a legitimate challenger to Duke in the ACC.

Here's why:

I had concerns about NC State coming into the season, despite the fact it ended the season on a high note with a Sweet 16 run, and signed three McDonald's All-Americans en route to becoming the preseason pick to win the league. They justified my skepticism when they struggling out of the gate, exhibiting suspect shot selection and disinterested defensive play.

Team chemistry is built on trust, and the loss of three important role players who both embraced and championed their roles was harder for NC State to overcome than most realized. It took a disappointing loss to Oklahoma State in Puerto Rico and a dysfunctional first half against an elite Michigan team to wake up the Wolfpack, but Mark Gottfried once again has a tight seven-man rotation and a team poised to challenge for the conference title.

As league play begins, the Pack are playing their best basketball of the season. Their celebrated freshman class has a better understanding of the difference between playing hard and competing, and their upperclassmen are leading the way by playing at an elite level.

C.J. Leslie is averaging 20 points in the past five games, and once again leading the Wolfpack in scoring. That's a good thing, because the more engaged he is offensively, the more alert he is defensively. Lorenzo Brown struggled shooting the ball early in the season, which affected his floor game. But in the past five games, he is 28-for-46, and more importantly, has 35 assists to only 13 turnovers.

Scott Wood has averaged 14.4 points in his past five games, while making 15 of 33 3-pointers. He is catching the ball in rhythm and in the flow of the offense. Richard Howell has been the most consistent member of the upperclassmen, recording the best season of his career as the anchor of the frontcourt.

The only concerns I have for NC State is whether it can play through frontcourt foul trouble, and if the team will be committed on the defensive end for a full 40 minutes each game. But compared to how things looked when they left Puerto Rico, the Wolfpack are in a very good place -- in position to make a run at Duke for ACC supremacy."

Obviously he says nothing that isn't already widely known, just found it funny that this was deemed worthy of being labeled "insider"

you do realize we play 18 conference games this year, don't you?

cause if your 10-win scenario is a 10-6 record, i'm just gonna have to the fuck out of it

So the other day skoal can was trumpeting the 75% accuracy of his simulator sites saying things like:

Quote :
"Most of the basketball models are ~75% correct in picking games straight up:
http://www.thepredictiontracker.com/bbresults.php"

Quote :
"I actually think 75% is a pretty useful accuracy.

If you eye test guys can prove that you can do better, I'll listen."

So for shits and giggles I picked the winners of the 16 games from yesterday and posted them on the last page. I made all 16 predictions in under 5 minutes with having never seen any of the teams (except a few minutes of a UT game) and looking at only their record and sometimes their schedule. Here are my picks with the correct ones in bold:

Quote :
"sam houston st
georgia
holy cross
rhode island
iona
st. peters
valpo
loyola
saint louis
memphis
tulane
alabama a&m
alabama st
alcorn st
southern
ole miss"

which comes to an accuracy rate of 81.25%

color me unimpressed with your little simulator sites

^^Did you even bother to look at the prediction tracker to see what they actually picked for the same games?

http://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball-betting-picks/

Same exact accuracy as you for the same games. Let's see you maintain your track record for a season.

aside from winning your conference tournament and guaranteeing an automatic berth, rankings are actually meaningful when it comes to making the ncaa tournament, especially RPI which says we're a top-30 team

Yeah we avoided a terrible loss, but there are going to be several losses ahead unfortunately.

Looking more like an 11-7 team every day. Sticking with my 12-6 though. We simply shouldn't be this bad.

the acc has a higher rpi and better ranking (6th to 4th) than last year, so I'm not buying the ACC is weaker than last year crap

duke, state, miami, maryland, gt, wake, vt and bc are all better than they were last year

unc, uva and fsu are worse

clemson is a wash

personally I think we'll go 13-5 (2 losses to duke, @unc, @maryland, random wtf loss)

but preaching hellfire over a 12-6 record and saying we're shit if thats where we end up is just ridiculous

The final record doesn't matter much, but 12-6 probably means a 3rd place finish or worse depending on how much UNC improves. Maryland will challenge for 2nd place and Miami ain't bad. Finishing fourth would be extremely disappointing with this teams talent.

btw i had to look it up to get that prediction cause i didnt remember

and i just wanted to wait for the season to end before we evaluated lowe

cause if he had (get ready for lol's) won the acc tourney and then the ncaa tourney, it wouldve been completely different

but i guess i'm blindly optimistic for heeding the motivational words of our cancer-stricken former head coach

i mean 12-6 is a fantastic year

it's just after the media hyped us out of proportion it's going to look disappointing. plus it's going to be hard to have a team with this many pieces as juniors/seniors ever again. just doesnt happen in today's game.

well if Gottfried keeps recruiting like he does, a team that goes 7 or 8 deep full of freshman and sophomore Warrens and Purvises will be solid

I am glad we have finally learned that we need to get Wood the ball when the other team has to foul in end of game situations. Used to irritate me to no end when we wouldn't run a play to get him the ball out of bounds.

this team is better than they've been playing, so i'm not going to get mad at an ugly away win and i'm not going to be discouraged by the models, b/c while i think some of the models are pretty good ones, they only account for past performances. if the team starts playing defense this season could stay right on track. i was going to say turn totally around but they've still only actually fucked up once, it's not like we have anything to attone for yet. maybe they get convinced to play balls out defense for 40 minutes for the duke game, win, and finally realize how dogass tired you're supposed to feel after a basketball game and don't lose again. COULD HAPPEN.

i say it like a joke but it really could happen. this is a very talented group that plays inexplicably poor defense, that is theoretically fixable.

I don't even think it's completely a lack of effort and hustle. I just don't think they know how to efficiently play good defense.

You can tell that we know how to efficiently play offense, and we've mastered the fine details of how to score easily. We know where to move and how to move on time.

We are the exact opposite on defense. Everything we do is late, we aren't in good defensive posture, the helpers don't anticipate breakdowns and prepare for rotation, no one boxes out when the ball is in the air.

I just think the team has focused more on offense than defense. We are post-graduates in offense and undergraduates in defense. That may just reflect the expertise of our coaches.
