Quote : | "Theoretically based upon lawsuits for compensation of athletes, but I think UNC's argument actually helps them. If they don't have a say in academics and are more just about organizing the schools and the competitions, then lawsuits stating SA's are getting cheated could be dropped and they could say take it up with the individual universities instead of the NCAA. " |
But the rules regarding athletes' amateur status are all from the NCAA. This is why there is an NCAA. All schools are governed by the same rules. If the NCAA does not respond, then they lose all their credibility with all other member schools and athletes. The only other way this can end up better than banners coming down, is if this somehow leads to athletes actually getting paid.8/4/2016 11:55:18 AM |

Yeah but they could argue it's the schools job to make sure they get their academic "compensation". They'll still have to fight some on compensation for athletes but that has nothing to do with enforcing academic rigor.
[Edited on August 4, 2016 at 12:13 PM. Reason : I just don't see this as threatening to the NCAA unless it hits the bottom line.] 8/4/2016 12:12:34 PM |

It sounds great for the NCAA to say "take the lawsuits up with the schools." But then you realize it's the NCAA that is making the rules saying athletes can't be paid, not the individual schools. They can't, on one hand, say that student athletes are being "paid" via a college education in order to avoid minimum wage and other labor laws, and then, on the other, ignore when those same student athletes are being cheated out of their only actual compensation. No way that flies in the courts. 8/12/2016 8:03:49 PM |

the NCAA doesn't make a single rule. the member schools make and pass all the rules. the offices of the NCAA are there for the enforcement of the rules as well as handling all of the logistics and business of getting hundreds of schools to work together.

I can't blame anyone since the NCAA isnt going to do anything about it all people have left is to attempt to discredit and humiliate them in public forums any chance they get. If the NCAA had punished them accordingly no one would even be talking about this anymore. Instead UNC is going to be heralded as the institution who took down the NCAA instead of the piece of shit cheating asshole school who cheated for 20 years as they should be remembered. 8/24/2016 8:23:38 AM |

Reddit has UNC fans coming out bragging about how UNC is gonna lawyer up and make the NCAA suck a dick, saying that this response benefits them (?)

^^ Having talked with people involved with the Wainstein report in various capacities, they said that it was as much of a whitewash as the rest of the so-called investigations. Faculty members at NC State who were involved in the Wainstein investigation have been furious at how much was swept under the rug. UNC never expected Wainstein to drop the emails like he did. That Wainstein wouldn't have interviewed Hoots, or been allowed to, isn't a shock. We already know from Wainstein that UNC wouldn't let them investigate any departments other than AFAM.
Yeah, I just dropped a [sources] on you
Also, UNC's "response" is beautiful in that article. "You're just a shitty newspaper!!! He's NOW involved in academics." Uhh, guys, what about in 2007? That's what matters, you dolts. Holy shit, it's horrible PR spin. Kane didn't say that UNC could ignore FERPA. He said that fucking Hoots could release his transcript. For fuck's sake, they are evil

So the NCAA just issued another amended NOA
Quote : | "North Carolina has received another notice of allegations from the NCAA, according to multiple sources close to the situation.
This new notice - the third notice of allegations in the case - could be announced as soon as this week.
Sources confirm this new version reinstates aspects of the original first notice that were then altered for the amended notice. That amended notice, which was released on April 25, replaced the impermissible benefits allegation with a failure to monitor academic support charge and removed all references to the men’s basketball and football programs.
UNC met with the Committee on Infractions on Oct. 28 for what was deemed a procedural hearing to review UNC's response to the amended notice of allegations. UNC's Aug. 1 response forcefully argued that the NCAA wasn't following its own constitution and bylaws.
Should UNC opt to follow the protocol for the investigative process, this new amended notice of allegations resets the timeline for a resolution. The school has 90 days to respond to the notice, and the NCAA then has 60 days to provide a response to the COI, which then schedules a hearing to review and rule on the case.
The case dates back to June 2014, when the NCAA announced it was reopening its 2011 examination of academic irregularities in UNC's African and Afro-American Studies (AFAM) department, issuing the first notice of allegations on May 20, 2015." |

As long as they get punished...then I DGAF.
Dragging this shit out so long has really hurt their recruiting. It would have really sucked if they had won the Natty last year before being punished...but since they lost it in excruciating fashion, then it just makes it better. String this mother fuck out and then string those mother fuckers up...past and current. Fuck 'em all.
