elise you can always ask if the etsy seller would use a champagne colored lace instead of the white: they might be able to do it for you

I have a guy taking care of my dress in Louisburg, which is where my wedding will be. Going to have it pressed and such day of, and then mom bought the dress preservation pack from David's Bridal, and they will clean it and preserve it and pack it up after the wedding.

Cass, my mother in law is taking my dress to some place in Nash County that specializes in wedding dresses. They clean the whole thing by hand. It's a 2 month turn around time. I can get the name of the place, if youre okay with taking it about an hour's drive from here.

that sounds lovely but i have my bridal portraits in 2 weeks and i get married in a month

when i bought my dress from Priscilla of Boston, they called the dry cleaner in Cameron Village and they said they can clean chiffon, i just didn't know if anyone had any recommendations or had taken their dress somewhere else locally.

Ah. This is actually a good place to take it after the wedding. My dress was chiffon too and, by the end of the night, a good inch of the bottom of my dress was grey. My wedding was May 5th and she only took it to them last weekend, so I'll let you know how it turns out!

yeah, i made the mistake of trying to take it somewhere the week before to have some wrinkles steamed out and all that happened in that week was that someone laid my dress down on an open ink pen and made a huge scribble on the sleeve. So I can tell you where NOT to go...

FYI if you need a place to do a cleaning of the dress in less than 2 weeks - medlin davis in Cameron Village is AWESOME! i dropped off the dress at 4pm on tuesday and it was ready for me to pick up Friday after 5:00pm. and the dress looks SOOOO good.

question regarding thank you notes - when is it appropriate to send them out? right after you receive a gift or can you wait until after the wedding? i had my shower last weekend and we have been receiving gifts since late april, i have heard you can wait but i feel like if i wait, those that sent gifts early will think we're just rude and aren't going to send a thank you card. thoughts?

I sent them immediately upon receiving gifts/cards/cash

I think it's silly to wait

[Edited on May 27, 2012 at 2:24 PM. Reason : plus then people know you received the gift if they mailed it from a long distance, etc]

shower gifts send immediately.

wedding gifts my family has traditionally waited until after the wedding to mail them, but that's up to you.

There are more, but here are some of mine and frybaby's engagement photos that Ronny took. I'd highly recommend him; it was a good time for a good price, and the pictures came out great.

I'm going to wait to send thank you notes until we move... Hopefully people will understand that :/ (we move June 9th)

I would highly recommend hypaone and tommy_wiseau!!! they were great. Also, David from SpiceCubed (fuckwads hubby) was fantastic as well!

I would NOT highly recommend River Ridge. I keep hearing more and more stuff that happened that I didn't know about, and they totally screwed our caterer. And they basically didn't do things the way we agreed upon at all for many things... Bah.

I sent mine immediately after receiving it. In fact, I would usually write a thank you note the minute I received a wedding present. After my shower, I spent all weekend writing the thank yous. I think it's kinda rude to wait.

i do need to get on that this weekend - things just have been super hectic but i have a list of stuff we have received and from who so i just need to buckle down and get it done.

It may be rude in most cases, but I think in Samwise's case people understand. She just graduated one week, got married the next week and two weeks later is moving. Honestly, I think as long as they get sent out within 6 weeks most people will understand. I'll be going on my honeymoon 6 days after my wedding, and I'm not sure I want to spend those 6 days writing thank you notes, especially because I will be working that week as well.

Apparently Emily Post says you should have all thank you notes out within 3 months of receiving the gift.

^ yea everyone is different. i think waiting more than a few months is definitely bordering on rude.

i have a friend that got married in october and still hasn't sent out thank you notes.. i love her to death but it really annoys me.

^^^ I wouldn't sweat it. We waited a couple of weeks because while we were at our wedding our damn apartment flooded and we were fighting with the landlord about the damages. If people got pissy over the fact they got thank you cards a month after the wedding they can kiss my grits.

Why is that annoying? Do you really crave that "thank you" so much that it bothers you?

I'm awaiting a couple thank you cars only because I hope that the gift got there (ordered online and shipped). Other than, I don't really give a shit. I know they liked me and are grateful for their gift. I don't need a thank you care to tell me that.

it annoys me because writing thank you notes for any gift received is standard and polite.

i do it for christmas gifts, birthday presents and i will certainly do it for wedding gifts in a timely manner.

well anyone that knows me knows that we've been in a hellacious bathroom remodel for the last month and also dealing with two HVAC systems breaking within weeks of each other

sorry i couldn't be southern and proper and send out thank you cards right away! i need to go buy thank you cards.

I would shop for thank you cards online. When I tried to find packs of thank you cards around town, either places didn't have any or the ones they did have were butt ugly. I was very disappointed. I think I ended up ordering some from Pear Tree Greetings in the end.

i found some simple yet decent ones at AC Moore on Sunday. i was going to buy them but then i wanted to check out target to see what their prices were like as well. i guess this also means i will need to buy more stamps

Yeah the selection at Target was crap when I looked last year. With the 40% off coupon at AC Moore I doubt Target could beat their price. Make a couple people go with you so you can get 40% off each pack

we took thank you cards with us for the long travel to the honeymoon, with the thought of knocking some out during the flights. still haven't written a single one.

it's been a month, and i don't have a problem with it yet.

We are doing the trendy pinterest thing and taking a picture at the wedding with a banner that says thank you and will probably order cards from vistaprint again. Not sure if i want to make them postcards or actual cards.

i never got a thank you note from the gift ($75) I gave at a wedding last june. Apparently they told there parents to disseminate down through the ranks and tell everyone "we aren't doing thank yous"

still kinda miffed about that, never thought I would care but I guess I do.

I've always been told you have 6 months - a year after the date to do thanks yous.

lol, while I wouldn't care if someone just got tied up with life and sincerely forgot to write one, it would kind of piss me off if someone decided they were too good for writing thank yous or some shit. I mean seriously, who says they don't do thank you notes? If I had said that to my parents they would have told me to fuck off and call people myself.

we were busy too, of course

but thank yous are polite and the VERY least you should do after someone actually bothered to send you a gift (especially in our case: we weren't registered and didn't really want anything from anyone... so when someone sent something it was above and beyond)

it's beyond rude to not do them at all

2c from a dude in here. i hate cards. they're an absolute waste of money and time for all involved (do you keep thank you cards as mementos or something?). i send cards, only because somebody will get all bent if i don't. personally.. i prefer and tell people not to send me anything. seriously, save your time and money... call/text/e-mail or simply thank me in person if it's appropriate. cards are just a way for people to fulfill social obligations without directly interacting with anyone.
