For those of us with the Epic Seidio just released their extended battery. I thought I would have had 2.2 before they got the extended battery released. shame. BTW its expensive.

yeah, I think if you're buying now, it's either the Droid X, Fascinate or Droid 2 Global. Then it's just personal preference on whether or not you want a keyboard or a larger phone. The Fascinate has the better hardware but it's still being held back by the lack of Froyo. Even on 2.1 the phone is still super fast and it'll only get better. I'd probably wait to see what LTE phones come next summer and how Verizon's LTE rollout is going.

Shoot, some phones will have 2.3 before the Fascinate ever gets Froyo.

haha. probably. I don't really care though. I don't use Flash and the performance gain won't be that big of a deal since it's already fast. I'd be pissed if I bought one of those docking stations that have the audio outputs which can't be used until Froyo.

so i was trying to update from 2.3.15 to 2.3.340 using these files after i was linked to them by someone on some other forums

http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/5789-tbh-patches-2-3-340-system-baseband-2-3-340-kernel-bootloader.html

i've flashed a couple roms on my phone, so i'm not completely unaware of how everything works. i followed all the instructions, and when i tried rebooting my phone i get a black screen that says

Bootloader
30.04
Err:A5, 70, 39, 00, 27

Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

if i connect my phone to my laptop with my USB cable it changes to

Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB

i also can't seem to reboot into recovery mode. did i brick my phone?

yeah, being in the bootloader is no good. Hopefully there are .sbf files that you can use with RSDlite floating around for the Droid x.

^^There should be. Even if you can't flash the latest update whatever that is, you can flash some version of stock and manually update from there, and reroot.

Essential:
Lookout Mobile Security (Antivirus Protection)

Kick Ass:
Pandora Radio
Google Maps (Includes GPS navigation, pretty sweet)
Lide Hold'em Tour (if are into Texas Holdem)
SoundHound (for when you want to know what the name of the song that's playing)
Angry Birds (Because everyone and their mothers brothers sister's uncle plays this)
Coupons (Online coupons, occasionally some free stuff).

there's really no point in getting an anti-virus as long as you aren't an idiot, but lookout has other useful features.

RealCalc Scientific Calc. (for when you really need to know the cos 64 degrees on the go)

It depends on the phone you have. I believe the Galaxy S phones and maybe the Evo 4G can use ShootMe without requiring root eventhough it says it's required in the app description. If you have a different phone, you're probably sol'd as far as a screenshot app goes.

Has anyone played with the Motorola Droid 2 Global? I'm thinking of picking one up so I can finally put my ancient Omnia down. Spec-wise, it seems like a beast, but the rumors I keep hearing about the battery life bug me. My friend who has a Droid 2 said that when he upgraded his OS, his Droid 2's battery life improved dramatically, but I don't know if the same will hold true for the Global.

Also thinking of the Fascinate, but if you have other recommendations for a Verizon Wireless guy, I'd appreciate it.

The only real difference between the Droid 2 and Droid 2 global are a few minor software changes, a little battery life difference and a lot of extra signal modes for INTL travel.

Are you suggesting waiting a month because of CES 2011? I guess my only thought with that was while CES would show off a lot of great stuff for the upcoming year, it may mean that I still need to wait yet another three or four months to actually get a hand on some of the things they show off. While I am willing to wait a month or so, I can't go much beyond that since my current phone is reaching the end of its days. Also, three or four months goes beyond what I'm willing to wait for a product that will probably have a life cycle of 20 months for me.

"HTC Readying 4G LTE Handsets for Launch in Second Half of 2011
by Kevin Krause on December 15th, 2010

Anyone holding out hope that an HTC-made 4G handset for LTE networks like the rumored Mecha wasn’t too far off might want to stop reading this article now. According to the handset manufacturer’s Peter Chou, HTC won’t have any 4G LTE handsets to offer until sometime during the second half of 2011. Given the quality of leaks surrounding the HTC Mecha — the LTE handset spied several times — we had hoped a release would come much sooner.

There is stil a chance that HTC is just watching their words. Better to deliver earlier that initially quoted rather than promise a date that can’t be met, right? Oh, and Chou also mentions these handsets will feature NFC technology, in case there was any doubt that Google (and others) are firm in making the near-field technology the next big thing in mobile."

fyi- the HTC Mecha is the Incredible HD.

HTC Merge video- still no eta

The Nexus S comes out today at Best Buy. How good is T-Mobile's network (coverage & speed?) currently on ATT.

^ unlikely on the 4G LTE phones. You probably won't see those until middle of the next year based on reports. That said, I'd wait until summer if you can.

well there was a very small contingency that thought the Galaxy S might come to 4G VZW in February (obviously it's GSM only right now), i HIGHLY doubt Verizon will wait til the summer to add 4G phones to their lineup, not with T-mobile & Sprint having phones already.

just installed dj05 and the gps lag is non-existent now. Highly recommend it for rooted fascinate owners. It's also nice that the soft touch backlights stay on until the screen times out. The boot animation has been removed so you'll hear the verizon boot sound but you'll see nothing but a black screen. Give it 5 min or so and everything should be good. No need to wipe either so everything returns where you left it.
