Interesting Duke take on Gottfried to UCLA. Specifically that they make the point of the State job being better than the UCLA one. Never looked at it that way before.

Howland lost control of the program and its well documented. I knew from the time Jamie Dixon started to tiwist the truth from the studio that all of Howland's buddies in the media would portray him as the coach that was fired for only 3 final fours.

Truth is, this article exposed the program out of control last year.

They gave Howland time to get it together and still did not fire him despite all of this because of his performance.


They were immediately under investigation the next season with the muhammad recruitment and all of the baggage he brought in. This only put the administration further on edge about a guy who had already done enough wrong to be fired.

his best season in 5 years ended up in getting blown out in the first round of the NCAA tourney

they hadn't made a Sweet 16 in the last 5 years, it was time for him to go, UCLA has higher standards than that

nobody cares if your players drink and fight if you're making Final Fours

if they had fired Howland when all the misconduct stuff came out, that would've been firing him for lack of control, etc, but they didn't

Coaches are rarely directly involved in scandals but its always their responsibility to be in control.

You can argue that philosophically but it applies to almost every coach that has ever been fired/resigned for conduct
