We could have them again but not on a set schedule per se. Like just decide to have one sunday and plan on it like you would do for a home game or something. 5/9/2006 5:57:18 PM |

haha... $Turner.
Until a few days ago, I felt I was losing confidence... I hadn't cashed in a live tourney in a while (that includes a lot of $1500 - 2500 buy in events), plus bubbling the WPT Championship after having a great stack for the first 2 days didn't help. I was staked for that event though, and winning the $25k in the super satellite beforehand did help a lot, so I guess you could say I've cashed in that one live tourney in the last couple of months.
But anyway, on saturday, I played a $2500 tourney at Caesars Palace, and even though I drew John Phan, Amir Vahedi, Harry Demetrieu, David Levi, and Mark Seif at my first table, I managed to triple up in the first 2 levels! So I was feeling great about my game... then I got moved to a much easier table, where the only recognizable names were again Al Ardibeli, and again, John Phan. I proceeded to donk off over half my stack to Phan and felt sick to my stomach. I then got moved to a new table with Carlos Mortenson and Barry Greenstein, and committed a cardinal sin of tournament poker. I went broke all in preflop with AQ. Someone put in a standard raise, and with me sitting on 4k with 150/300 blinds (not time to go broke yet), I reraised all in preflop from the bb with AQ. Ran smack into AK, and I was out.
Things turned all the way around on sunday though! I got 2nd in Paradise's $200 buy in $150k guaranteed tourney for about $20k! I then got 5th in their $30 rebuy $100k guar. that same night for about $5k... and proceeded to have a +$19k day online! (I had a bit of a % deal with a friend of mine who got 3rd in the $200 tourney on Dise + about $4k in buyins across different sites on the day... the reason the profit was only $19k) It's been a few months since I had a day online that good. I then played another live tourney yesterday at the Wynn... $300 buy in, only 51 players, and proceeded to chop heads up. Now, I am pretty much completely against chopping unless we're talking about what would amount to my biggest win ever (at least $25k+), but I managed to get heads up with a good friend of mine! In fact, I picked him up from his hotel in the morning and convinced him to play the tourney. So I was happy to make an exception here! We chopped even for about $3,800 each.
So, it's off to play the Mirage $1,500 event today... and then they have super satellites on friday and saturday for the $10k WPT event that starts on sunday. I've had good luck in these super satellites in the last few months for WPT events, so I hope I don't jinx myself here! 5/11/2006 10:04:07 AM |

^^ I just can't imagine how much your bankroll must swing
I mean, going a month or two without cashing, and playing many many 2k+ events, and then all of a sudden cashing like 40k in two days...I don't know if I could handle that.
If you don't mind me asking, in the very beginning, how much did you begin with? I remember back on page like 40 or so you started posting and asked if anyone was considering playing professionally, but I don't ever remember you saying, "I just want to start with 2k and see if I can get anywhere" or anything like that. 5/11/2006 2:43:17 PM |

I got $50 from them yesterday.
Went on there last night in a NL .50/1 room and finally got it up to about $120. Then I limp w/ JKo and get raised to $6 so I smooth call. Flop comes and I hit the J for top pair on the flop. Figuring my opponent was on a follow through bet on that flop when he led out for $20 I came over top all in for all my chips. He instacalls with AQo, turn blank, river queen. He takes down the $250 pot on a river queen.
I suppose that's what free money is for though. 5/12/2006 9:45:49 AM |

Alright, I got a problem with this.
Very dangerous plays there, depsite the fact that you managed to get your money in good in this particular hand. I would only consider doing this against a total maniac where I felt very confident in my read on him. Then again I might wait for a better spot than that to play against him. I hope for your sake that this beat doesn't influence your future action at .5/1 NL tables because playing this fast will inevitably lose you money.
What I mean specifically is: a) calling big preflop raises with danger hands, in or out of position and b) you put your whole stack at risk on what was basically a bluff because no decent online player will pay you off with a worse hand there. You obtained no real information about your opponents hand before pushing, and given the preflop raise you have good reason to think that you might be beat. A very gambling push imo, virtually a bluff against most opponents.
Against a maniac, all that goes out the window. If you really know your man that could be a reasonable play, but if you think that is the kind of tight/aggressive play style that wins online, you are mistaken.5/12/2006 9:32:09 PM |

Quote : | "I would only consider doing this against a total maniac where I felt very confident in my read on him." |
Exactly right.
I had been setting this guy up for this move for about an hour. I would never have played it that loose if I hadn't A) been playing with free money on a site I don't play on ... and B) been completely confident in my read... his post flop bet made 0 sense based on his play...
The intersting part... based on your post... is that this guy was NOT a total maniac but I had been watching him closely and knew I had him beat. I fully expected him to fold here and I would just take down the pot. However, I had showed down some weak winners (thus setting him up for this) and I got the call. I'm fine with this play though because I know that when we turned over he was like... "shit!"
That's how it goes though!

Fair enough. Bad players play KJo almost exactly like that at every oppurtunity, which is why tight/aggressive players like me often play AA like this guy played his AQ.
Like I said, all bets are off once you've identified a maniac and sat with him for a while. Good play, tough beat. 5/13/2006 8:04:00 AM |

next hand I flopped open ended str8 flush draw with lock low.
2 hands later i hit a wheel with the nut flush and got 3/4 by a guy with the 56 of spades with 234 of spades on the board. I had the A so i thought i was gonna scoop. I was wrong.
I'm still running away with this tourny. I swear, limit Omaha8 sng tourneys on stars are softer than a down comforter. 5/13/2006 10:18:11 PM |

i cancelled my stars account tonight
i busted 3x with the same hand up against the same exact other hand in about $500 worth of tournaments tonight
and the other person flopped the same broadway straight all 3 times
yes im talking about KK vs KcQc
all three times the 3 different people made the same 3x the BB raise in front of me, and then went all in over the top of my reraise with KcQc, all when the blinds were 50/100
I wrote pokerstars an email and I am done

what a wacky fucking game i was in tonight
its nice to have a guy with about a grand at a 1/2 game that you know for a fact he wont be holding on to them for long.
he busted within an hour.
even with some ridiculous beats, still made >400 in like 8 hours, not bad.
the maniac open pushes for over 100 utg.
i call with aces
he tables 23o, flops two pair, i dont improve.
bollocks.
another hand where i had called with 5d3d and flop and oesd with a flush draw, he pushes, with top pair, imake my straight on the turn but he went runners for a straight flush.
bing! and he scoops me for another $400 pot.
flopped 4 sets, every single time the board goes 4 to a straight with 3 to the flush.
if things would have gone just slightly different, would have made wayy over 1k.
the biggest hand of the night went like this:
i open up for $11 with Qc Jd
wacky azn calls, pretty solid guy who has recently become immaculately better as a player calls, another caller, one wicked tight guy calls from the sb, and wacky insane-o crazy apeshit maniac calls from the bb.
6 in for a $66 pot.
flop comes Jc 4c 2h
checks to me, i bet out $45, wacky azn calls, better player pumps it to $95, tighty folds, captain insane-o calls, i go into the tank and fold after a long time. i know for a fact that better player is completely infatuated with club and diamond draws, and firmly believes that he will hit every single one of them, and is perfectly happy with putting all in with one of these draws on the flop. he did this to me 2 weeks ago, 4 times he hit them after being all in on a naked weak flush draw, he hit everyone. he only does it with clubs and diamonds however, so i actually thought for a few minutes i was wayy ahead. to many cards to dodge however.
wacky azn to my left folds, shows me his QJ... surprising. he may be a bit on the froggy side, but has shown the capacity to lay down big hands when he feels a bit thin.
2 left to the turn, with $346 in the pot.
turn is an inconspicuous red 8. wacky dude pushes for another $300ish.
better guy instantly calls with KhJh.
insane-o has Ac 7c.
turn is a blank.
jeebus.
another crazy hand that i wasnt involved with, but captain ridiculous built a huge stack with.
straddled to $9, like 7 callers, and the bb pumps it up to $45.
captian crazy calls, sb calls as well.
flop comes 4d 5d 6h.
sb bets out $25. bb raises to $100 straight, crazy ridiculous pushes for ~another 100, sb calls has both covered, bb is forced to call off his las like $25, tabling his aces.
sb has 73o, for the flopped straight, wacky guy shows 8s9s (!!!!!)
3 on the turn, and then bam, 7 on the river.
guy drug a monster 700+ pot pushing AI with a gutter and nailed the three outer on the river.
these guys were fucking gamb000000000ling
it was the most insane game ive ever sat in.

ok ive got a line question for you resident LAGGs
this hand happened against the wicked tight guy.
i raise to $9 utg with 7h8h. (shh, not the piont here)
2 callers, realy tight guy calls from the button, an one of the blinds calls.
to this point i hadnt shown down anything besides top set. (imagine that from me)
flop comes As Th 6h.
checks to me, i bet out $30.
tighty is the only caller. he seems a bit skiddish.
turn is a Qd.
i bet out $35, he isnt happy, but calls.
river is a Jd
i bet out $65. we both have about another 150 beyond the 65.
yes/no?

^ That's one of those hands where your initial decision to play it kind of dictates your strategy... especially with that flop. Once you decide to bet that flop you are pretty much committed to playing it strong the whole way. It seems like he was figuring that if you had an A you would check it to him. He may have been on the same heart draw as you (maybe like Kh Jh). Seems like the only other hands he would have there would be a weak A against you in position.
So what happened at the end? 5/14/2006 10:26:09 AM |
