^Yeah, the one you have is mine previously, and it worked great with Federal Bulk. Its a great little gun, very impressed with mine.

I'm starting to lean more towards the Sig Sauer Mosquito, it seems to have less reports of failures to feed - and it supposedly has no problems with Federal bulk

^Buddy of mine had one, and tried 10 different kinds of ammo. Could not get through even one mag without a jam. Tried cleaning, not cleaning, different shooters, sending it to Sig etc.

The P22, IMO, is a far superior gun as long as you get the magazines that work in the gun. I forget, but there are a few date codes on the P22 mags that dont work well, the rest... flawless. The one Kyle has now I shot 100 or so rounds of Federal bulk through, just perfectly.

I have seen evidence of the sig mosquito slide cracking and in some cases falling apart.

Of course this usually happens a couple thousand rounds in.

To me that is b.s. and the fact that there is only a 1 year warranty on the mosquito.

I'm a member over at Sigforum and there are a lot of people on there that have (or had) a Mosquito. From the reports over there it seems that most of the problems with the Mosquito has been worked out and they are experiencing far fewer problems than the earlier one's.
But still not as reliable as some others.

I haven't shot my p22 in years, I need to take it back to the range soon.

CCI Blazer .22LR works very well, I have a few boxes sitting around. Also some 7.62x39 I found. Awesome. Thanks for making me look for this stuff.

Actually went through something really similar the other week. Was debating between a p22 and ruger mk iii stainless. I figured that if Im going to plink, I want something thats going to be (1) reliable, (2) not picky, and (3) somewhat accurate.

In the true plinker category, I think the P22 out does the mosquito, so that was instantly out due to all the problems theyve had. When it comes to build quality and accuracy, I dont think the p22 stands up to a ruger mark (whatever). I ended up with a 6 7/8 mk iii stainless, which is incredibly sexy IMO. The p22 seems fun, but as my only gun, it seemed a little too limited.

I'd like to do some varminting, and am potentially willing to take a trip to do it, and buy a rifle for that purpose. any suggestions?

i don't want to go somewhere just to raze a prarie dog town that isn't hurting anything and is maintained to be hunting. I will kill them at the cyclic rate, though, if anyone can put me on some varmints/vermin/predators that are actually being a nuisance, harming crops or livestock.

+1 for groundhogs, you could save all kinds of soybeans in my home county.

I love my Tikka .223 for varmit though (mainly groundhogs and coyotes)

I see the makings of a TWW Varmint 'Fest...this could be fun.

I saw a coyote the other night here in my neighborhood in Durham....just off the corner of hwy 55/I-40. Tempted to take him out with my bow...

Well, I have a Remington 700 in 7mm REM that shoots really well that I can use...I can kill coyotes with it no problem, but I'm not about to sit down and take 100 shots at prairie dogs or whatever with it.

I'm pretty sure my 30-06 is a bit much for the average varmint...and coyotes. My only other rifle is a .22 though...might need to pick something else up..like a .223 or .17HMR

well, i mean, you're not out to preserve meat with them. it's just that it's unnecessary, expensive, and painful to shoot a lot with something like my 7mm REM, or to a marginally lesser extent, your .30-06. That doesn't mean I wouldn't bring my 7mm out to smoke coyotes, though, up until I buy a .243, 6mm REM, or .22-250.

Oh, I agree. I was just looking at it from more of a $$ point. It gets darn expensive plinking with a -06. Would definitely be fun though

Gander Mountain has an LCP Ruger 380 for 299.99... for all you gun guys, is this a decent deal?

It's not a bad deal, assuming you got one you can go to and not have to have it shipped/transferred for you. But that is about the average price most of my friends paid for it when they got it (B/w 300-330ish)

here's a youtube video of a review of the Smith & Wesson Emergency Survival Kit which I recently got (for Christmas)

this review is for the 500 S&W model, whereas I have the 460 (which also shoots 454 Cassul) but a decent review

can't wait to shoot this on Friday!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23jKU6DN_7w

also, my kit has a yellow grip instead of orange, although most importantly, the flint / fire starter is more sophisticated

and here's a clip of the same guy firing the 500 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=iv&v=i9fK3IYxwC0&annotation_id=annotation_28587

i'll check back this weekend and let you know about the recoil, which i expect to be big!

Question for the shotgun people.
The 500 Mariner I posted above, that I got for xmas, only has a bead sight on the front.
There are no rear sights at all.

What are some good options for sights?

It has a 20'' barrel, and I know I don't need them for home defense, but I plan on taking this thing in some fields as well as for skeet. I will probably end up with a 28'' barrel as well, but that is down the line.

They're not supposed to have a rear sight - you just line up the bead along the vent rib. The 28" barrel for that gun just has a white front bead and a gold bead mid-barrel. If you want to add a ghost ring or something though, the receiver should be tapped for a base.

There is no rib either.
That is what is strange to me. I've dealt with break barrel shotguns before, but never pump.
There is a flat-ish top on the receiver that has screws for a sight, and then the bead at the end.
I can look down the barrel and see the bead, and that should work well enough if shouldered properly.

That's how it's supposed to work.

As far as other sights, I'd say just shoot it the way it is and see if it works.
If you want something more precise get the factory ghost ring sights. You have to silver solder the front sight on.
If you don't want to do that (because it involves stripping the finish and refinishing) you could JB weld the new front sight over your existing sight base but it won't be as secure.
I've got the factory ghost rings and they work fine and are the cheapest option.

The factory ghost ring rear sight is pretty easy to take off so if you wanna put a longer barrel on for skeet then it won't be a hassle.

^x7 you actually got that thing? wow...
Why did you get it (if you say it's just because you wanted it that's a perfectly valid reason)?
Was it for fun or are you keeping it as an actual emergency kit?
I think a Super Redhawk in a less caliber would be a better survival choice in big bear country. It weighs about the same but at least you have enough barrel to use it as a club or hammer.
Handguns running at rifle pressures make me a little nervous.
Hey, if you get the chance take a pic of the forcing cone. Isn't the forcing cone supposed to be specially finished? Does the 460 version have gain twist?

Picked up a Ruger LCP today.

Shot 100 rounds of WWB through it to break it in. Shot #18 jammed on me, but everything after that was smooth sailing. Also got a box of Speer LE Gold Dot 90gr GDHP's (for personal defense). Shot 20 rounds through it and no problems at all.

Christmas present...for fun, and if I go out in the wild, just in case

I don't think the ES snub has a gain twist, but I'm pretty sure the 460s with longer barrels do

I'll take some pics on Friday when I go shooting
