if i hadn't ordered the stuff last week, i definitely would have ordered some stuff from kate spade. who doesn't love kate spade

i got the girls these really pretty (well i think they are) clutches that are more on the formal end so they can use them for nice dinners, going out, events, etc. and then i got them a pair of matching earrings to wear the day of the wedding and then these fun note cards that reminded me of them

I am my cousin's maid of honor this weekend. She didn't want showers or a major bachelorette party, though I am kidnapping her this weekend and taking her with her bridesmaids and friends for bowling/dinner/drinks/dancing after the rehearsal on Friday afternoon. Wedding is on Sunday.

She really doesn't want to do the penis accessory/super drunk thing. I am getting her a sash/tiara to at least embarrass her a little bit, and made her a silly bouquet for her rehearsal. And I have a speech planned for the ceremony, as well as plans to attend to her on the wedding day to get her where she needs to be, keep her fed, etc. And I have an emergency kit with sewing stuff, safety pins, cosmetics, etc.

Anything I am missing in terms of what I could do for her this weekend? I feel so lacking in that she hasn't asked me (or let me; I have offered) to do very much, but she is a very low-key person.

One thing my friends in Bham did for my friend and I when they threw us a joint bachelorette party was to make sashes that had unexpected things on them. Mine said "Your Mom" and Lauren's said "Hey Girl, Hey" - they were in glitter and had rhinestones. So, if she wants something away from the ordinary I would definitely suggest that

^^ I did a very low-key bachelorette party

and that's exactly what I wanted

they got me a sash and boa, but otherwise we just went out and had a great time

so I wouldn't do anything other than what you've already done

That is kind of what I was thinking. I know she really doesn't want a big show, and I don't want to make her do anything she doesn't want to do just because I feel like I should. But I also don't want to miss out on any of my "duties" or any quirky things I could spring on her that she may not be expecting. I haven't been to that many weddings, and I've never been MOH before, so I don't know if there are any particular things I'm not in the loop on here.

Good to know I am not totally missing the boat though.

I was matron of honor in a BFFs wedding this past weekend. Instead of carrying flowers, we had a simple wrist corsage and a Couch clutch to carry down the aisle.

Gotta love typos. I appreciated the (COACH) clutch idea rather than flowers. The bride's a purse girl, so it made it more personal for her and doubled as part of our gift.

Well we were oddballs but we got ours a couple months before the actual wedding because finding a time we could both make it over there to get the document was a bitch and I needed health insurance, so we got it about a week before we went over to the courthouse and got secret married. You've got up to 60 days between when you buy it and when it expires.

like, midmorning on the thursday before and there was no line.

do the online part first, you can be in and out.

it was shockingly easy that that's all it took.

We did Feist's "1234" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABYnqp-bxvg which if anyone bothered to listen to more than the first two lines of that song they'd probably be like "wtf " but no one does and we wanted a really short song

Runner up was Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJOzdLwvTHA

i'm not looking to steal songs Nick. you goob. i'm just curious. we've had a particularly hard time finding something we both like. we found a song so uber 80s cheesy that it makes us laugh but the song has a pretty good meaning behind it. i just wish i could find someone else who redid the song so it's not so ZOMG 80s!

Here's the breakdown of costs for our wedding in September. We're planning for 150 people with an outdoor southern barbecue reception.

Florist: $1,800.00

Bartender: $0.00 (covered by catering company)
Cutlery and Plate Rental: $0.00 (covered by catering company)

yeah, she's really good about keeping costs reasonable.

as far as pies...nobody actually enjoys wedding cake (at least we don't), so we thought it would be neat. we're also making a pie plate for the "bride and groom" pie and that'll be what we keep rather than hoarding cake in our freezer for a year. it's gonna be fun to make a pie for our anniversary.

we just need to figure out alcohol costs. we're doing 3 pony kegs of local beers (our first date was a Triangle Brewery tour) and wine and sangria.

luckily, we already have a house.

the venue was really the only thing that made things as expensive as they are. her sister is in a wheelchair (severe disability), so we had to find a very accessible venue. most places aren't since they are listed as "historic" sites and don't have to comply with accessibility requirements. we would have had it at the Mordecai House for $600 for the day, but there were some M.F.'ing stairs!

there was also this cool place called Het Landhuis that would have been awesome.

None of those costs are really unreasonable. The only thing I did a double take on was the wedding dress, and the florist cost!

I have 2 weeks to go this week I have to get my hair done (way overdue for color), drop my dress off for a final fitting, get our marriage license, finalize the music (just waiting on his mother to freaking give us the damn song she wants ), and do the programs.
