Nothing new from what I can see, but all the UNC fans who read HuffPo probably aren't happy about seeing this piece show up on the day they won.

And I was surprised no one posted about Nantz's comment during the Oregon game about the "swirling innuendo" regarding the UNC scandal. I can't have been the only one on here yelling at my tv when I heard Nantz just casually drop that opinion while commenting on the game. 4/4/2017 12:36:36 PM |

played the NCAA like a fiddle. They knew with the team that was coming back they had a shot so they had to stall in order to ride out the season.
Now Roy will ride off into the sunset if ANYTHING is handed down as a punishment at this point.
And in the crazy scenario that UNC does lose a banner or two, UNC fans STILL won't care and will just point out that they are a "clean" program now. 4/4/2017 11:33:19 PM |

They figured out how to stall tactic the NCAA and the NCAA was totally cool with it all so one of the blue bloods could continue help driving TV ratings. They're not gonna lose '05 or '09 and they pushed this thing far enough back to avoid any post season bans to get them another one in '17. Whole situation is mind boggling and still make sense at the same time. Incredible to think that a school could get away with this, but at the same time not everyone is UNC.4/5/2017 11:12:56 AM |

They cant figure out why everyone hates them either. It's not just State fans anymore at least, people across the country know this title wasnt legit after stonewalling the NCAA. The NCAA will likely never punish them so its left to the public to punish them in whatever way they can. If this hurts their feelings and they get tired of hearing about it then too fucking bad for them its their fault. If they had just taken their punishment and manned up about it everyone would have moved on by now. Instead they got another title that no one should ever acknowledge, not because they were cheating this time, but because of the circumstances that led to them even having a chance to play for it. 4/5/2017 11:57:05 AM |

The sad point now is this has turned many wolfpack fans away from college athletics. More and more each year I find myself less and less caring of what happens during FBall and BBall seasons. I don't think this can be emphasized enough. We still don't have anything more than the NCAA's bullshit explanation of "miscommunication" on why MBB and FB were in the original NOA, then not in the revised one, then added back on to this most recent version. That gave UNC ATLEAST an extra 6 months, maybe closer to a year. The NCAA penalty process is shit, and everyone knows it. Now we know it's designed to be shit so the NCAA can tweak the process as needed for their pre-conceived result.
If they don't drop the hammer on UNC, I hope the "student athlete" lawsuits get cranked up. Cause it's all bullshit.4/6/2017 9:41:16 AM |

Exactly if they had just done like they should have and taken their punishment maybe self imposed a 2 or 3 year post season ban and dropped their 3 banners they cheated to get then everyone would have moved on and it would be back to a normal rivalry. Instead they stonewalled and will never just admit they cheated all those years and instead of being punished even more severely they instead managed to weasel their way into another non legit title. Its the smugness and attitude they and their fans have had about the whole situation that breeds the hatred more so than the cheating itself I believe. 4/6/2017 9:43:36 AM |

^ I'd just assume dissolve college varsity athletics at this point. Enjoyed the games and the tailgates and all, but if you stand back and take a look at it, it's ridiculous that we're funding people's academic pursuits based on physical prowess as an 18-year-old and that this multi-billion dollar business enjoys tax-free status. I can't see an argument for college sports as practiced in Divisions I and II outside of marketing and successful sports teams give an enrollment boost (which is stupid). At Division III, sports are the only thing keeping the doors open.

They are usually very small private schools. DIII does not offer "athletic" scholarships, so they entice students with the chance to play sports. These small schools have large percentages of their student bodies in athletes. Without sports many schools would suffer greatly. Often times the chance at playing is the main or only draw to the school.4/6/2017 10:12:26 PM |

I read the forum at the Chronicle of Higher Education website. Has a lot of liberal artsy professors and small private college administrators on it. Good place to read about the problems in higher education.
There's a thread going back to 2010 on the financial crises and possible closures of schools. A lot of it is those small private schools that you've always wondered who goes there, and that is the problem of they've killed their academic integrity to take anyone and still enrollment is declining. One example of a school in such trouble they talked about was St. Aug's. But there's a D3 small Midwestern administrator that laid out their problems in a bunch of points and her final one was "the only reason males come here is to play first-string sports". She actually praises her coaches for looking after the kids' academic interests, and says the goal for them is to keep them in line so by the time they're juniors and realize they start needing to look ahead for a career they're prepared.
Everyone thinks there are going to be a ton of small private college closures the next 10 years, especially in the northeast and Midwest where demographics play a role. (And the northeast is littered with them.)
To this point, I had a female cousin of mine who went to a small private school for the sole purpose to continue cheerleading. Unsurprisingly to me because I knew her GPA in high school, she flunked out after a semester.

What’s more is that 17 of these athletes had a perfect GPA of 4.0, even with their constant traveling and rigorous practice schedules. Men’s basketball star, Nigel Williams-Goss, received the Elite 90 award last Friday, meaning that he had the highest GPA of all players participating in the final four. Compare this to UNC, whose basketball team has faced scrutiny for listing fake “paper classes” on player transcripts in order to maintain their eligibility. UNC athletes can’t compare to GU athletes academically, even though the classes aren’t real." |

To be fair I think it has only been available on Amazon Prime for the last few weeks. Most of the reviews were done in the last week (for obvious reasons). The best review (besides mine) is this one:
Quote : | "Though Unverified does not actually tell the WHOLE story, it does open your eyes to the fact that the original NOA was precipitated by a false narrative to begin with. The d00k and moo U fanbase precipitated this witch hunt, due to jealousy and evy. The academic side of this has NOTHING to do with the NCAA, is beyond their scope, and they are trying to enforce bylaws that do NOT exist. THAT is the point THIS film did NOT get accross. IT was an ACADEMIC issue, NOT ATHLETIC, therefore NOT part of the NCAA's jurisdiction. UNC winning ANOTHER Natty, is only going to encourage moo U & d00kie's to continue this charade. The fact that d00k's athletes' take classes at NCCU instead of d00k, has never been talked about. If they aren't smart enough to take classes AT d00k, why are they PLAYING for d00k?? People in GLASS houses shouldn't throw stones, and moo U has a former football player already under investigation over his connections to their programs. SO, when you IGNORANT people actually get the FACTUAL information about this, THEN come talk to us, with FACTS, not the BS that the snooze & disturber tried to pass off as facts. THAT IS WHAT WE EXPECTED THIS FILM TO GET ACROSS, but, this at LEAST points out what blatant LIES were printed by the snooze & disturber, with NO VERIFICATION of the FACTS. It is really more of a fictional story, written for the delusional and envious fan bases of our enemies; the only ones left reading that TRASH paper here in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area." |
Also don't forget! You can add pictures to your comments or in your review. I'd bet less than 1/2 the people who posted out of that 9 watched the film.
When I posted my review the film had 3 or 4 reviews I believe and my review dropped it way down to around a 3/5. Now it's up to 9 reviews in the last few hours, I smell fake accounts.

I wonder what the response to "mooU and dookies" is when they acknowledge that Deunta Williams, Tydreke Powell, Michael McAdoo, Devon Ramsey, Mike Paulus, & McCants all dropped a dime on them from within. Williams and Powell actually graduated too which was the funny part. Mcants' transcript was of course cross referenced with the fake courses to show his ineligibility. I guess UNC fans think he's a legit Dean's List recipient though, which is more than insane. Especially after all those real live breathing professors came out and refuted his claims.....or not. Well, what about his legitimate adviser that enrolled him in independent studies courses that so many other 1.6 GPA holders get to take....or not.
And then the admin threatening Willingham's career and fans sending her death threats and then......paying her over $300 grand to go away. Nothing says someone is guilty of slander like settling with them forking over $300k.

what unc fans (maybe because a higher % aren't alums) don't understand or wrap their head around is that proclaiming "NOT AN ATHLETIC ISSUE" doesn't erase the fact that this is still major academic fraud spanning multiple decades and, seemingly, an entire academic department of study. that's pretty serious, pretty bad, and definitely nothing to defend. it's very clearly aimed at keeping athletes eligible, i'm not sure how you can seriously argue against that. in my opinion, this being a scheme strictly to keep athletes eligible is actually not as bad as if it were widespread, rampant academic fraud not restricted to athletes. sure, if it's related to athletes you can lose banners and be subject to NCAA punishment. but from a "what's more wrong" standpoint - i feel like it's more wrong or more embarrassing and indefensible if this weren't an athletic issue and was strictly indiscriminate academic fraud to any and all students taking these classes.
so yeah...scream "NCAA doesn't have jurisdiction" and "this is academic and not athletic" all you want...just be aware of what that means you're admitting that you're ok with.

Well where to start?
Let’s start with the notion that the “major Raleigh newspaper“ - that has to be the News & Observer obviously as it’s the only major newspaper in Raleigh (there are others but none that could be called major) - is basically lying in order to bring down the program is ludicrous.
First, there is a point here. When the N&O went after NC State and Jim Valvano the paper really was stocked with graduates of UNC’s Journalism school. Someone who was there in 1993 told us, shocked (our informant was from another state), that when UNC won the title most of the newsroom stood and cheered. " |
I like how it talks about how UNC did this without any one and done players because Roy wants it like that.

I really don't expect it, but I find it odd the president at Maryland is saying this. Back when UNC's accreditation was under review, a small private school president wrote an article saying "if you're not going to do much of anything to a school engaged in systemic academic fraud, what worth is accreditation?" I'm sure he understood that wasn't going to happen, stripping accreditation from Carolina is a type of "too big to fail" thing with all the federal academic aid that would be made null and knew he was just making an academic point, but you'd think the president of a state's flagship public school would be more in tune with what is likely to actually happen.
