CIA = Century International Arms (an importer that puts guns together)

They get mixed results. They import guns or gun parts then reassemble/rebuild them or swap parts to make them compliant with fed laws.
Some guns they turn out are pure crap (do a search on their CETMEs) while others are ok.

I wouldn't buy any CIA as a defense gun. I'd buy one as a fun gun but only after doing a bunch of digging on the net.

When you are talking about something you may have to use to defend your life, ~$300 compared to $150 is pretty insignificant.

I do appreciate the chromed bore on the norinco made shotgun.

It also has a tang safety like the mossberg 500.

Maverick Arms pump shotguns made by mossberg are around $200 before transfer fee.

Maverick Arms pumps are around 200 bucks new. They're made by Mossberg. http://www.impactguns.com/store/maverick.html

The dual extractor and twin slide bars are winners for me.

Can anyone in the NCSU area help a friend and I swap barrels/tubes/etc on our AR's? I have an M&P standard 16" upper, and he has a DPMS Varmint 24" bull barrel with FF tube. I just want his barrel and tube, he wants my barrel and tube. We tried to switch uppers, but he has an early DPMS tri-rail upper, and I dont want that.

You should keep the bolts or at least the bolt heads paired with their barrels. That way you wont run into headspace problems.

I'd help you but I'm in rocky mount and the action block I was supposed to get for xmas is still on backorder.

Shot (half of) the IDPA match at PDHSC on Saturday, great fun. The competitors ran the gamut from the game-specific shooters to the guys just trying to improve their pistol skills. I would say I was in the low end of the pack (plus I shot a no-shoot target, off-hand at 5 yards...) I will definitely attend the next one and plan to stay the entire time, they are at a disadvantage as they only have 2 stages at a time and have to shut down to set up new stages. Still in all, very fun.

After playing with quite a few handguns I'm torn between Browning Hi-Power and Sig P226...and where is the best place to pick one of these up once I make my mind up.

I like both of those, especially my friend's .40 Hi-Power. Most people recommend Jim's or Lawmen's around here. Definitely worth it to shop around, especially if you're ok with a used gun.

Patriot Shooting Sports in Youngsville, NC (20 min north of I-540) claims to be able to beat anyones online price around. Their prices in store on most items are killer, and they are nice guys to boot.

^^^I would go with the SIG personally (but i do like that you have moved away from the 1911 )

honestly, you can check out for some used ones at local shops and keep an eye out on here (in the other thread). Locally I like lawmans and Jim's Gun shop

I do love me some SIGs.

Went to the range the other day...shot about 30 rounds of 7mm Rem mag, and a little bit of .22LR through the AR-7. Maybe a half dozen shells through the Saiga 12, too.

I only shot it a little bit, and the sights aren't even set in the ballpark. I'll have to get back to you later. I shot another one a while back; it was fine for a simple .22 with crude peep sights.

Was thinking about picking up an LCR-LG at PDHSC:

I don't have much experience with gun shows. Is it worth it to try to buy one there instead? Are there good deals there?

From my experience, PDHSC is typically more expensive than other local shops.

Lawmens?

yep, last 2 guns I've bought were from Fuquay Gun & Gold. The owner (Clay) is a really good dude. I have a couple of MAJOR gun-nut cousins who buy all their stuff from him, too.

Last gun I bought in NC before that came from Lawmen's (SIG P226...surplus LE gun; I bought it for $275!)

I used to like browsing around the Colonial Gun Shop in Hillsborough, too. Never bought anything from there, but they had (have?) a huge selection and some off the wall, cool stuff.

I've got a pre '64 Winchester model 70 in 30-06. Got it from my grandfather a few years ago who has had it since the 1950's. It sat in a closet and honestly I wonder if he ever shot it.
Long story short, I took it apart, clean and oiled it up, had a scope installed and used it during deer season this year. Took 3 deer with it!
The pre 64 mod 70's seem to be highly praised and I understand why, but I truly do not like the trigger pull. I mean you really have to squeeze this thing and I found it tough to make a quick shot because I felt like I was squeezing the trigger to death just waiting for it to go off.
What can I do to lighten the trigger pull? Is it an easy adjustment or should I shut up and take it to a professional?

^I have an FN .308 (built on a similar action to your 70) and my local gunsmith said he wouldnt work on them that they were finicky. I dunno how true this is, however I tend to believe that out of all the Win 70's in the world someone somewhere has tuned the trigger.

If you can take the trigger group apart (down to hammer and sear) then I would be happy to show you how to wetsand some machine marks and polish it up. It may not help the length of the trigger, but it sure will be allot smoother. Done this to many rifles, easy as pie.

Awesomeness... Gallery of Guns has it listed for $880 MSRP. We'll have to wait and see if this holds true once the public can buy them.

i sent that to a friend yesterday and it got us in a pretty good discussion about it. He thinks when it comes out it will be under 500 bucks being that it is still a pump (keep in mind, that is just a guestimate price- the msrp has not been announced yet)

I'm willing to bet the msrp will be in the 700 buck range, but actual price will be in the 4-500 range

for example:

PF9 msrp: 333-370 actual price: 250-280
SU16c msrp: 770 actual price: 550

and there are several other examples if you feel like looking

I just don't see any store trying to sell that pump shotgun for anywhere near 7-800 bucks

I also don't think we'll see it in the stores anytime soon

cool, and yeah, it absolutely begs for a broomstick on the pump.

I think I'd rather have my Saiga 12, though, unless there's something really extraordinary about the KSG that I'm missing.

i think the keltec is a little less cumbersome, but I too, would rather have the saiga too (I am a fan of semi auto- with a pump shot gun, i'm always afraid that in the heat of the moment, I would forget to pump it or something)

A Saiga with a 19" barrel isn't too cumbersome. You could always put a shorter, traditional AK stock and pistol grip on it, too...and it brings a good bit of added firepower to the table.

Yeah I love my saiga-12. MDarms is supposed to be putting out their double stack magazines this year, preferably sooner than later. Hopefully all this bullshit surrounding high cap mags will blow over. Do you post on the saiga12 forums at all btw?

Edit: also, anyone going to the gun show this weekend?

^ That's what I'm afraid of... But I've got other financial priorities atm, unfortunately... I think they were $25/ea. which is a pretty good deal. I figure it'll be nice to snag some of them for when I pick up a Sub2000 later.

Do you think the ban will be only purchase/selling of high cap. mags or will the ban include the use of them as well?

they'll still be for sale, i'm sure. prob just new production banned, if anything.

i'm guessing that nothing will happen. the Dems just got fucking drummed in the midterm, and I don't really see them squandering political capital on this when they have bigger fish to fry. They ranted and raved about it for a little bit while the public uproar was going on about the shooting, but people will move on and it'll move to the back burner, I hope.

In any case, I'll bet they're gonna be expensive right now due to the panic. IF they get "banned", they might even go up in price a little more, but there's a good chance, I'm thinking, that if you just be patient, you'll get a better deal on them in a few months.

Kinda like people freaking the fuck out when Obama got elected, when you could hardly buy ammo for a year or more, because it was always sold out everywhere...there was nothing to worry about--they were more worried about nationalizing the healthcare system than banning the production/importation of any gun stuff.

I just received an heirloom. Its an early 1930s Belgium made double barrell .410 shotgun. It belonged to my grandfather, the story is that he got it during WWII when he was over there.

At any rate, I think I might have the gun restored, what places do you guys recommend for this?

How would I go about selling a pistol at the gun show? No FAQ or anything I could find on the website.

I would like to sell a pistol or at least trade it for something else. Not sure how to do that.

Do I just take the unloaded item in a case with me into the building?

Are there signs at the tables indicating if they are buying/selling?

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you just take your unloaded gun to the show and ask around.

At the front door of the gun show, an officer on duty will put a zip tie or something through your chamber to show it's unloaded.

Didn't see it posted yet, but Kimber just introduced a new subcompact 9mm. The "Solo Carry." Single action/stricker fired, single stack with ambi safety and mag release. http://www.kimberamerica.com/solo

Very little advertising/info in advance. Most dealers I know just found out about it/just got one in within the last few days. I'll be in the market for a small 9mm in the coming months and there are several coming out at this year's SHOT show. LC9, p290, and this one. Though I'm still partial to the Kahr pm9, I think I'll check the others out as well.

Its just old and looks pretty worn down/well used. I'm not really concerned with the monetary value of the gun, it'll be something that I hand down to my kids/grandkids one day (if I have any).

I'll put up some pics when I get home tonight.
