Clearly that's not what happened, or the results would have been white voting overwhelmingly for McCain.

Ok so I'm playing around with this "Livestation" player and I flipped through some channels and found some really decent and intelligent coverage... on Al Jazera.
Come on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, ABC, CBS... when Al Jazera has you beat and all you've got are whiteboards and holograms (ok the star trek shit is neat) that's just sad. 11/4/2008 11:12:52 PM |

Boone, My views were unpopular in 2003 because I opposed invading Iraq. Being unpopular didn't mean my views were wrong. My views are unpopular today because I believe Obama does not represent change we need. Only time will tell if I'm wrong. Hopefully, he will govern more from the center than he campaigned. 11/4/2008 11:15:38 PM |

ABC was just discussing race--
~20% of people said race mattered
~80% of people said race didn't matter
Obama won both segments.
Ya'll need to find something else to pout about. 11/4/2008 11:15:39 PM |

^^^I'm not pouting... I think people can vote however they want, for whatever reason they want, Even if it's just a silly as a candidate promising them icecream, and I'm not going to complain. However, numbers clearly show that race WAS important in this election, so people should stop pretending it's not.

it's just too bad he had to head up one of the shittiest, most negative, unfocused, hateful campaigns in living memory.

This was one of his best speeches of the campaign. He seemed relaxed and visibly relieved to have it over. Him have to tell the crowd to stop booing is, I think, why he's become so tired and uncomfortable with his own campaign. The things said and done on his behalf and some of the people at the rallies (yes, a small minority of them I know) had to make him queasy. He's a good man after all and that had to grate on him like nothing else could.
Ok so Al Jazera's coverage of his speach was pretty impressive. They said "That was one of the most heartfelt and genuinely gracious concession speeches I've heard in any election." then the other commentator said "Yes, and I'd expect nothing less from either candidate. Despite some of the terrible things said on their behalf these two men have shown a high amount of civility towards each other in and out of the debates." And of course the other coverage I'm watching can't see anything deeper than that he's tired. GG MSNBC.11/4/2008 11:33:13 PM |

Ah, I figured out why Al Jazera's coverage is so scholarly and even tempred. It's actually the BBC doing their english coverage.

Ok so the BBC/Al Jazera English Broadcast was just interviewing a black democratic opperative with the Obama campaign (no name subtitled and I missed it) and she said:
Quote : | "Well clearly racial issues are still present because 96% of African Americans voted for Barak Obama. That we are in a place where racial groups are able to be so polarized compared to other segments of the population shows that race, not necessarily racism, is still an issue in American society and we still have work to do." |
I forget who was saying this earlier, but I bet you didn't expect to hear it from a black democratic operative in the Obama Campaign.
^Ron, you are crazy. Getting back on the gold standard? What the hell man? That's nuts. I you want to back your currency with something then you back it with "energy" in general, not a shiny metal. Energy is the best metric for economic activity and growth.

Ok but that's not entirely fair. They're happy. It's a hell of a lot easier to be a gracious winner than it is to be a gracious loser. That's why McCain's speach was so impressive. Not only was he gracious- he was genuine and communicated his desire to heal the country and quiet the vitriol. 11/5/2008 12:06:53 AM |
