Ok, smart guy. I think you're being a little melodramatic over a guy who may or may not play 10 minutes a game for us next year, and yes I know we currently lack a post presence.

to follow Floyd? no...he is looking for the right fit for him to develop and isnt really interested in

playing at the highest profile school. he had a really good visit here and liked everything he saw

he really thought we had a crazy fan base and appreciated the fan's enthusiasm

the kid is a solid player but since he plays overseas we dont know much about him.

JV is a good shot blocker & rebounder who can use both hands on offense

we have had a lot of good luck with recruiting foreign players in the past a commitment from him

would help our front court next year.

If any recruits are turned off of NC State by what some students or fans post on a message board then they have no business playing at NC State, let alone the ACC.

Ever read Carolina's boards after a loss? What about Duke's? Maryland's?

They don't have to, and should not, be reading any message boards during the season. It'd probably be a good idea to never read them.

these guys appear to not be going to Kentucky to play for Cal

K.C. Ross-Miller, PG
Dallas, TX
God's Academy
Scouts Grade: ESPNU 100
ESPN100 Rank: 98
Position Rank: 21

Quote :
"Class of 2010 point guard K.C. Ross-Miller has decided to re-open his recruitment following Wednesday's hiring of new head coach John Calipari, the Louisville Courier-Journal reports. Ross-Miller originally committed to former coach Billy Gillispie in July of 2007.

"I don't know coach Cal, so I am opening it up and looking around," he said. "I still like Kentucky. If Calpari sees me play and likes me, there's still a chance (for Kentucky) but right now I'm open."
"

G.J. Vilarino, PG
McKinney, TX
McKinney H.S.
Scouts Grade: 88
Position Rank: 28

Quote :
"G.J. Vilarino asks for release from Kentucky LOI

Point guard G.J. Vilarino, who was former Kentucky head coach Billy Gillispie's first commitment when he took the job two years ago, has asked for and will be granted a release from the letter of intent he signed in the fall, his father, Gerry Vilarino, told the Louisville Courier-Journal.

"We spoke and felt it would not be a good fit," Gerry Vilarino said of the family and newly hired head coach John Calipari.

Vilarino originally chose the Wildcats over Memphis, Kansas, Texas A&M, Illinois and Baylor."

Konner Tucker, PG
Fort Worth, TX
Lon Morris College (TX)
Scouts Grade: 40

Quote :
"Junior college guard Konner Tucker de-committed from Kentucky on Wednesday following the hiring of John Calipari, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

"I'm just really not interested in Kentucky anymore or playing for coach Calipari," said Tucker. "I'm just trying to find the right fit for me. I'm moving on."

Tucker, who spent one season at Lon Morris (Texas) College and will have three years of eligibility remaining, mentioned Wichita State, Oklahoma State, California and Cincinnati as schools showing interest."

This is from an ESPN insider's recruiting tracker; to my knowledge we are not pursuing any of these guys

That makes room for Henry, Cousins and one more.

^^ Our board would probably lighten up a little bit too if we had just won a national championship. Hell, a conference championship would probably do the trick.

Thats b/c there is nothing to do in Kansas but follow basketball. And I don't think our fans are any worse than a lot of other schools. We just get a bad rap b/c we're as rabid as elite schools and we have barely been a footnote in basketball since 1989. I blame the administration.

^^^ That may be the case, but if their team perpetually stunk, wouldn't them knowing a lot and really caring about their basketball team lead them down the dark road of self-loathing that State fans constantly travel? Knowing/not knowing much about basketball has nothing to do with a fan getting discouraged when their team hasn't won anything of significance in the last 20 years.

Let me give you all a little dose of reality, because it's getting way too chipper in this thread.

We are going to be asshole again next year. Lowe has shown he's not that great of a defensive coach, and we lost our best defender heading into next season. Until Lowe comes up with some a better plan on the defensive end, you can expect more of the same.

I don't really agree with that at all. Can you imagine what Davis (assuming he stays) and that Henson kid are going to do to us if we don't have a body bigger than Tracy out there?

Remember Fells guarding the best players on the opposing team the past couple years vs. 1 game where he got burned? Remember that? Losing Fells is not going to help our cause on our "already bad" defensive end of the ball, no matter how you want to spin it. Vasquez may have had Fells number, but Fells was a damn good defender in his years here.

Either way, respond or not (either way you know I'm right), nobody has directly tried to argue that we're going to be asshole again next year unless Lowe gets his shit together with the defense.

You guys simply try to nit pick parts of my argument with some bogus ass shit like saying having a small team is going to solve our defensive problems (again, that is the dumbest shit ever posted in sports talk) and trying to downplay Fells loss on the defensive end, when you know damn right he was THE best defender on our squad, and occasionally would drop a double-double on the offensive end.

One guy said that.

I don't think he was the best defender on the floor. The Vasquez example was just one of many. Good defender or not, the guy was an offensive liability. Whatever perceived defensive contribution we're losing with Fells, we can make up by putting someone on the floor who wants to score.

Quote :
"and occasionally would drop a double-double on the offensive end."

Occasionally? Like once in four years?

His only double-double came two seasons ago against UVA.

I'm not trying to hate on the guy. I know he was hurt a lot this season. But I don't think we're losing in anything in him.

Ernie: In general smaller quicker teams are better at forcing turnovers and that is something we had trouble with this year. Also you can apply more defensive pressure because if you are beat by your man the team has the speed to recover.

you are correct, sir. I should have looked it up rather than assuming, however there are numerous games where he has scored 20+ points for our team, in addition to guarding the best player of the other team.

Secondly, I clicked your link but it doesn't work for me.

I think that Fells was hands down the best defender on our team. If you don't agree fine, but you can't disagree that he was ONE OF the best defenders on our team during his tenure here.

(sorry for the bolding I feel like Erios.. but now I see where he is coming from )

Another big man option would be good but I don't think it is required for us to be able to play defense.
Ernie: What do you think of us losing fells. I think he was a good defensive option for us but I think he was often inconsistent on the defensive end (going under screens that he should have gone around etc.) and overall I think that players like Javi and CJ will easily replace his contribution to the team defensively.

I wouldn't call 4 games (4 this year, 8 over his career) numerous. You should really start looking stuff up.

[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 7:23 PM. Reason : oh and btw, he scored < 10 points 10 times this season.]

i agree with you there adder. fells definitely had the ability to be our best defender, and often times was, but sometimes he'd become a victim of relying on his athletic ability rather than playing a man straight up. he got caught on screens too much this past year and let his man get past him to go for a block from behind instead of staying in front and playing sound defense. we'll miss him no doubt, but we have some guys coming up that can be as good, if not better.

^ was probably a personal issue with the player, had nothing to do with the coach, RIGHT?! And by the way I completely disagree with your statement.. Fells to NC State as Ginyard to UNC.

It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.. we'll find out next year how much better our defense will be from the past 3 years. Time and more time. I got it.

^^I also think that oftentimes he was forced into guarding players that were smaller and quicker than he was which would put him at a disadvantage. His focus was always questionable though. I remember he didn't even really play as a freshman because of that.
