I have turned into an absolute juggernaut at Omaha8 recently. I've won or finished second in the last 10 or so omaha8 sngs i've played in and am up probably another $100 or so playing .25/.50-1/2 limit oh8 in the last few days. I'm playing like an hour a day and just rocking shit. You know what that tells me? That everyone on pokerstars sucks donkey cock at oh8. 5/21/2006 11:13:05 PM |

Anyone else hate how Party Poker goes hand for hand for so long near the bubble?
Last night I was in a tourny and we went hand for hand for over 5 levels(~1.5 hrs)...what a drag. It started going hand for hand with 70 left and top 50 payed (we started with 2056 people so this payout of 2.5% i thought was really strange). It really took the "poker" out of the game. 5/22/2006 8:34:13 AM |

I have a question for all of you out there. It may seem like a no-brainer, but I still would like to know the thinking of others. Heres the scenario. First stage of a $100NL tourney. You are dealt either 8-8 or 9-9 (take your pick) and raise accordingly. You are faced with a large re-raise from the SB. The SB so far has played every pot and has not shown down a hand, but has won the pots with his aggressive play. You have a gut feeling your pair is WAY ahead, but at the very best he has two overs.
Knowing this information (with him having two overs, and not an overpair) do you risk your tournament here with a race situation, assuming he WILL call? 5/23/2006 10:57:01 AM |

it is basically what Noid said
had he not bought in for only 40 bucks, he could have bet the pocket 9s guy out with a strong 2nd reraise after the initial one. Lets say he makes the reraise 50 more, it probably ends up him vs AK or KQ, with basically a lock
99 doesnt call the 50+ or all in on top of the 2nd raise
thats all i can see preventing it from happening 5/23/2006 10:57:40 AM |

well it really depends
honestly, I muck that, but then again, early in tournaments I only raise the mid pairs < 10 in the sb or bb because I DONT want to race so early in a tournament with an easily dominated hand. I prefer to play it a little slow and try to get in cheaply and flop a monster in the early stages. Honestly dude, where is it a good call for you
he has pp's less than or equal to 8, 2 unders, 1 over 1 under
really that is about it
because there was no detail about the blind structure, stacks etc, I will assume this is a fairly large tourney and that the blinds go up accordingly and are not like pkr-style ridiculous.
So in that case I fold and play for later in the tournament. Wait for a better spot. Again you could be easily dominated

Ok- Got another scenario from a $50 tourney. 3 hours in the tourney the blinds are 30/60. Im sitting with 400 chips. Avg stack is prolly 175-225. 8 people left, im in 4th position. I am dealt 3-3 and raise to 150. Folds to the SB who thinks for a bit and raises me all in. He is the chip leader. I start thinking.
I ask if he has AK and he turns red and gives a fake smile. I now know at this point I have him beat. I AM trying to win this tourney. Who makes the call and who folds? 5/23/2006 10:19:52 PM |

You played it horribly. At this point you have to call. You just shoved in over 1/3 of your chips. You have no other option. What were you going to do on the flop when there are 3 overs? Push all in? If that's the case, then you might as well have just done it preflop and saved yourself some trouble. 5/23/2006 10:34:35 PM |
DrOldSchool All American 2221 Posts user info edit post |
I agree with ^, but I have some questions....
How is the average stack size only 3-4 times the BB? Are people sitting there with less than/near 60? When you say you're in 4th position, you mean in chips or in the hand?
This is why I ask…
With the average stack at 200, and you having twice that, it means you’re probably in good shape compared to the others. So you’re in 4th position in the hand, and not in for anything. This also suggests that 4 people (at least) will have less than 4* the BB. So at some point, they will have to go with anything.
When you’re holding 33, simple odds are that everyone (or at least 6 of the other 7) are holding 2 overs, and you’re still only 54% against hands like T4o. So if one of the small stacks go with crap, but crap >3, you’re looking at losing a significant chunk of your stack if they hit.
Even limping here, you’re risking 1/6.67 of your stack. By raising for more than a third of your stack, you’ve committed yourself.
Hence why I’d fold this pre-flop here, given the situation as I read it.

Decided against adding money when I'd get nothing for it and stupidly sign up for a PP freeroll + $300. (1 am)
Five hours later I place second (11MM chips to 6MM chips at final hand) I push all in with top pair (KTo) after the turn, he has 66. Catches the two outer on the river.
Oh and I know it's not a big win ($32) since half the players were lame ducks (being a late freeroll) but it was a full 7500 person tourney.
I'm probably prouder of myself than I should be.

Blind structure for this tournament was terrible. Blinds doubled every 18 min. We all started with 200 chips and blinds were at 1/2.
Sean- 2 people had stacks less than the blinds at this point. The chip leader had 500 chips to my 400. I was actually 4th in chips and 2nd to act.
King Pro David- What do you do? Knowing you have him beat after he re-raises? You were right, i am basically pot committed at this point, but in making the call knowing i was ahead i dont regret it. Thanks for the input. 5/23/2006 11:21:35 PM |

That still doesn't make sense... how is the average stack 200?
With 8 people in, that means only 1600 chips are in play. If you're in 4th with 400, and the CL has 500, then how can 2 others have greater than 400 each? I'm guessing others have busted, and the average stack is more like what you have.
As for your logic... If you're going only on "I'm ahead" then it's an auto-call, and not worth posting. You'll win 5.4/10 times, and complain 100% of the time when you lose.

Hand question.
(Hand in question happened at a $25 max buy-in NL table, .10-.25 blinds) 2nd to act preflop with KK. Fold - (ME)Raise to 4xBB($1) - Fold - RERAISE to $24 - folds to me.
I have no information on this guy. Zero.
Question is, do I take the kings and throw the money in the middle and say fuck me if they are aces, or fold since I only have $1 in the pot.
To make this question relevant, 4xBB raise met with a 96xBB raise... If you play $200 tables, This is a $200 raise. Would you risk it here?

Are you at a 6 handed or 9 handed table?
Auto Call on the 6 handed.
If you are 9 handed you may want to think. Technically only one hand beats your preflop and for $24 i will make the call.
If put in that same situation in a 1/2 game, even if its 9 handed, I will most likely make the call too. Its almost impossible to lay down KK preflop when only facing one opponent. 5/24/2006 10:24:14 AM |

10 handed. And like I said, it is only $24 for me.
This is a theory question, so if you play $1-$2 and buy in for $400, then this is a $400 call in your situation.

I definately think about the call. But you have to think, who would play AA like that? He is only going to gain my small raise and the blinds. Not worth it for him. I really put him on an pair like JJ or QQ, where he doesnt want to see a flop.
But yea, in a 1/2 cash game, if i raise to 8 and a guy goes over the top for $200 I am going to call. Really hard to put a guy on AA here. 5/24/2006 10:58:14 AM |

I played because it was unraised and I was in late position with a lot of money in the pot. I keep thinking I did the right thing, with the nut low and top two pair on the flop. As soon as the two low stacks went all in, I figured they had the low, but my top two were good, and if not, they had a set and I was only losing a little bit of money. That is why I raised, to get rid of anyone else on the draw, but instaed I got raised and pot committed. 5/24/2006 12:46:58 PM |

I am not an omaha expert, and probably not an averageplayer either, lol.
but just looking at it, the 3 counterfeited you, without that you 3/4th's of the pot.
2-3-5 were the only cards that really hurt you. a queen lost you the high side though.
looks like you played it right and got rivered. 5/24/2006 1:05:07 PM |

Since I'm driving for white horse too before I leave, these are our slowest nights. And I can make my schedule a month in advance, so i can plan around this, and probably get a few guys from there too. I'd just need to know by Fri, when my June schedule is due.5/24/2006 2:41:49 PM |

wow.
i havent played on stars in over 6 weeks and got this email today.
Hello,
PokerStars has become aware of two or more players who were in violation of our poker room rules. You were involved in one or more hands with these players. You have received a credit as a result. To confirm your credit, log onto your PokerStars account, go to the 'Cashier' screen and click the 'History' button. Your share will be shown as "Credit Purchase", followed by the amount of the credit.
I regret that we are not at liberty identify the specific games or players in question. Suffice to say that the players involved have been barred from the site and you will not encounter them again.
Likewise we will not go into detail regarding the method used to calculate your share of the funds distributed. I can say that it is based on the net amount won using unfair tactics, combined with the number of hands that you played at a table where unfair play was taking place.
The integrity of the games at PokerStars is of paramount importance to us and we will not abide unfair play in our games. We work hard to police our games to assure our players of a fair, secure place to play. In those rare cases where collusion has actually occurred, we make sure that any players affected are compensated appropriately.
Thank you for your continued play here on PokerStars. Please do not hesitate to let us know any time we can be of help.
Regards,
SteveW PokerStars Support Team

To make this question relevant, 4xBB raise met with a 96xBB raise... If you play $200 tables, This is a $200 raise. Would you risk it here? " |
He is going to turn over a lower pocket pair or AK enough of the time to where you should always call in this situation.5/28/2006 4:54:44 AM |

All I'm saying is that you will win enough of the time for it to be a profitable play. Having KK and going up against AA just doesn't happen all that often. Don't get me wrong, I know it does happen and I know it has happened to me but it is really rare. 5/28/2006 12:30:57 PM |

If you win $10 4/5 times and lose $200 1/5, then its not really worth it. 5/28/2006 2:32:32 PM |
