Can someone explain to me why WRAL is talking about a "cold" front coming through this weekend? Last time I checked the 5 day forecast doesn't have a single high below 90. A cold front is not temperatures 2-3 degrees below the average seasonal highs.

A cold front is defined as the leading edge of a cooler mass of air, replacing (at ground level) a warmer mass of air.


So as long as it is cooler than what we are experiencing now they are correct.

a front is simply the boundary between 2 air masses of different qualities...
the cold front denotes that an air mass that is "cooler" (doesn't have to be by any certain amount), is taking the place of the air mass ahead of it. the cool air which is more dense undercuts the warm air in place...you can get some lift ahead of it and some rain
there are different magnitudes associated with cold fronts...sometimes they don't produce any rain and sometimes the temp difference is very very minimal

Do yourself a favor and don't look up what the normal temperature for this time of year should be. They might as well permanently add 6 degrees to that figure because that would be more accurate.

obviously I know what the fuck "cold" means. But 90° instead of 99° isn't cold. It's less hot. I also assume you're just trying to be a dick!
