this is pretty much what i do too. only times i use solvent are for brand new guns/parts to get the protectant off, cleaning the bore, and sometimes in the really cruddy areas of a .22 semi auto.
the ultrasonic also works wonders. you can throw a whole trigger ground in there and get it super clean without pulling it apart. i use one of deemarie's old hair dryers and compressed air to get the water out and then spray down with CLP.2/5/2011 10:26:08 AM |

Good info thanks fellas
Also, being that I have yet to get my CCP, how do I legally transport my pistol to the range? When Im in my truck I suppose I'll throw it in a bag in the tool box, but what about carrying it from the parking lot to the range? What about the fact that my bike is my daily driver, my "trunk" is my bookbag...any legal way to carry it then until I actually take the CC class? 2/5/2011 2:57:38 PM |

I've got both Hoppes ELITE and Breakfree CLP. I just used the CLP to clean my Glock.
Okay. So I got my new barrel from KKM. Looks fantastic. Buttt there's a ever so slight fitment issue. After I swapped barrels, I noticed it was in the slide really tight. So tight in fact that I had trouble racking the slide back and disassembling it to put the Glock barrel back on... Not that it was impossible, just took a decent amount of effort... I think the hood and breech face need trimming. Any suggestions on who can do this for me for $RI? It's a SS barrel, if that makes a difference...

i don't know why they figured a 1911 of any variety was the best choice for a service pistol 2/6/2011 3:51:21 PM |
dave421 All American 1391 Posts user info edit post |
^^Well no wonder they had so many issues, somebody stuck "safety buttons" on the damn things.
Seriously, everyone knows that Kimbers aren't the most reliable 1911 out there but 289 "malfunctions" in less than a year and a half is BS. I'm betting more than half of the "malfunctions" were agents' failures.
^I don't see a problem with a 1911 as a service pistol but not for a bunch of agents that are never going to use them. Going from a Sig to a 1911 is a pretty big step for someone that practices every couple of months and is used to just pulling the gun out of the holster and pulling the trigger. There's several forces that use them with no problems but they usually have a heavier training schedule as well. My big problem is why the fuck you're going to issue a $1k Kimber instead of a $500 Glock or $600 Sig. 2/6/2011 5:23:57 PM |
eleusis All American 24527 Posts user info edit post |
the only problem with a Kimber is the gun not being idiot proof. I'd imagine that ALE agents use their sidearms less than any other law enforcement agency. 2/6/2011 6:39:15 PM |

I contacted the gentleman referred by PDHSC. His turn around time is ~3 weeks and it'll be about $50. I also contacted KKM and they returned my call and said they would take care of everything. They designed their barrels to fit 99.5% of glock slides. Looks like I fall in that 0.5% crowd. KKM says they'll reimburse my shipping and have the barrel fitted for free. Should get it back by the end of the week. Now that's standing behind your product... If this all goes smoothly, I'll be one loyal customer.
I'm sad that I'll be without my G27 for the week though 2/7/2011 3:54:45 PM |

This is the prime example of why you need two guns.
I'm about to pull the trigger on my first 'real' optics. Aimpoint Micro H-1 for the AR. The optic costs the same a a Glock. 2/7/2011 4:09:59 PM |

^^Ohh, the Glock barrel fitting. If you're brave and have a steady you should be able to do it yourself pretty easy. How is the barrel binding? Is it just tight on the lockup? If you have calipers you should measure the hood length and ejection port length and compare. 2/7/2011 5:42:38 PM |

Something other than a dremel? I guess I was thinking of a table/belt sander for an even finish. I know I'm supposed to take my time and take off 0.5mm at a time or so, but with a dremel? I wouldn't trust myself to do that...
I guess I could have used a sanding block? 2/7/2011 7:59:07 PM |
Fumbler All American 4670 Posts user info edit post |
No no no....belt sanders are bad lol. So are Dremels if you're not careful. To fit things like a barrel all you need is a good set of files and maybe some stones. fine wet/dry sandpaper backed with glass is also handy depending on what you're doing. 2/7/2011 8:22:46 PM |

Well, everything arrived today, 4 days faster than expected. It is an Aimpoint H-1 with A.R.M.S QD mount. Optic looks good, and functions just like it is supposed to. I ended up having to buy a $6 set of torx bits to put the optic on the riser. With the QD, I can still throw my $100 3-9x scope with QD mount on if I plan on trying to shoot long distance at the range.
