^^No problem. Is it an actual galaxy S or a variant? I'm not too familiar with galaxy S specific ROMs (I look at captivate ROMs every now and then since my brother has one and I'm more into looking into modding than him, so he mods his on my recommendations) but here's what I know of:
-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091 that ROM has been ported to the captivate as well and is pretty well liked.
-http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8139-gt-i9000-cm61-holy-crap-its-full-of-bugs-version-beta3/ I'm pretty sure that nothing cyanogenmod got for any galaxy s variant was too stable, and I'm 99% sure they wanted to get AOSP gingerbread before even attempting a stable release on at least the Captivate. This could be pretty buggy, but it might work for you.

I'd say look around on XDA and pick one that looks stable and has the features you want. Darky's is my official "recommendation" if you wanna call it that.

I am currently Running DJ05 with the JT1230 no voodoo kernal and the "red galaxy" theme that is pretty badass, I love it.

Apparently the rumor on XDA is that they are actually working on a gingerbread upgrade and apparently they got it to boot in gingerbread, but they have to work out some bugs. that would be awesome if they got a working version up and running for the fascinate soon, then we wouldn't even need the damn froyo update, lol.

does anyone else hate the gingerbread keyboard on the DX? it came with the apex ROM, and the keys are like half the size of the 2.2 version. for someone with big hands like me, it's a pain in the ass. i hope with the official gingerbread release (if there is one), they leave in the option to change it

my only problem with the gingerbread keyboard on my backflip is that it for whatever reason doesn't have proper word suggestions, so it automatically tries to correct to people's names in my contact list. So when i use it, my sentences look like "Jay Bill Gabby Rogers it"

I am gonna bet the 4g smartphone plans will not be unlimited.

Probably a minimum of $30 for 3gb and $10gb over, and a $15 option with a tiny allowance and $rape if you go over. Verizon is not the company to give away the farm for free, you are gonna pay as much as they can extract from you.

You think wrong or you have a flawed definition of the word "fine". I bought 6 Droid X's for work. So far I've had to do hard resets on 3 of them when they lost some function for no reason. So far, I've only NOT gotten complaints on 1 of them and I don't think he'd tell me if something wasn't working right (took 2 weeks of no responses to find out he was deleting all of his emails without realizing it). 4 of them are box stock. 1 is rooted & modded. 1 is running a diff. launcher and has as much done as you can without root. After the last update, I lost all of my apps and couldn't get them back without signing up under the wrong account. I had to calm my mother down last Sunday when she came running into my house because they had been calling and texting me all day but the phone had been silent all day even though I had used it for outbound stuff.

Android is great if you like to geek out and mod everything still. As someone that depends on their phone (and has admittedly outgrown that modding phase), I'm through with it. As soon as iPhone comes out, I'm gone. I'll happily give up the ability to easily customize it for something that will actually work when I need it to.

^ sounds like you just have extremely bad luck. Several people in my family have X's, several close friends have them, and back when they came out I convinced multiple co-workers to get them (including 2 switching from att (iphones) to verizon).

Out of everyone I named, no one is rooted, no one is running any major mods or anything. Just standard usage and apps and no problems with the phones. Everyone loves them /shrug

If that's not working great out of the box I'm not sure what is.

^don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they're unuseable. They're just far from perfect like most people want to make them out to be. 5 years ago I would have loved Android. Today, I'd rather have iOS based upon my experience with iPads & iPod Touches. Android 3.0 may change that and if Verizon would offer a phone with good specs and plain jane Android a la Nexus S that would possibly make a difference as well.

Right now though it's just 2nd on my list and I have enough issues with it not working "right" that it pisses me off. I mean I had to set up a new Google Checkout account after the last update because Google doesn't have their shit straight and won't let me change default user. This after setting the phone back up with my personal account as default charged me for apps I already owned but setting it up with my work account as default (opposite how it was originally set up) gave me all the apps that I bought with the OTHER account (even though my work account was never set up under Checkout). Add up all the small things and toss in a few of the big ones (like the account thing) and I'm tired of dealing with it. I switched to OSX as my primary OS at home now for the same reason. Can't do as much with it but I don't have to mess with it.

All that said, I will miss the 4.3" screen and some of the stuff like LPP and being able to swap batteries (plus I hate the iOS browsers).

^ Do you have wireless at work? I was having the same problem but I switched to using wireless instead of 3g and now it lasts 4x longer. If not you can try juice defender app. That helped some too but not as much as switching wireless on.

^^hows your signal where you spend most of your time? If you spend a lot of time in a place where you get poor or no signal, your battery will drain like 20% an hour. If you're in one of those locations, you pretty much need to have your phone connected to a wi-fi network, even if you aren't going to be actively using your phone.

what kind of signal do you get at work? My DX was off the charger this morning at 7am and is at 70% right now. No GPS, wifi, or bluetooth at all today and brightness is on auto. So, not a heavy usage day (just some internet browsing, texts, emails, and a few calls) but still not close to dying. Also, how long have you had the phone?
