Just south of downtown Raleigh, I'm starting to get paranoid that I'll get screwed again.

that's not even accumulation amounts, the rain at the beginning means that would be a dusting

Not that I trust a BUFKIT output but... huh? Pretty sure that .01" of rain doesn't keep 1.2" qpf of snow from accumulating..

[Edited on January 6, 2017 at 12:20 PM. Reason : At 10:1 that is 12" of snow. Again, not happening but that data says that]

The gradient is gonna be nuts. Every single long and short term model has Wake Co split. Most show a foot in NW and like 2" in SE. Like clockwork.

So glad I live in Durham now.

Just remember that while we may get a lot of sleet mixing in and that will probably still kill snowfall totals we still are looking at mostly wintery precip and snow mixed with sleets is actually gonna be worse for the actual roads than if it were all snow but higher totals.

I really hope it stays below freezing on Sunday because those overnight temps are going to masks everything a skating rink if we have melting..

Not wrong. But it's going to be tight. Some of Triangle is going to get hammered with snow and some with sleet.

Wouldn't surprise me to see downtown Durham and downtown Raleigh have a 6" snow differential. Also wouldn't surprise me if sleet and rain line moved 30 miles NW and fucked the entire Triangle.

I just see all that sleet compacting, melting a bit under whatever cars drive around, then near zero degree temps turning it into a solid sheet of ice for monday morning haha

^^A solid sheet of ice is much easier to bike on than slushy snow. Got those carbide studded tips.

I regularly bike 18-38 miles in Denver after we get 6-8" of snow. When it's icy I have my 700x40mm carbide studded tires and when it's super slushy I got dat 27.5"+ fat bike with 3" tires. I'm flying by cars on the greenway with literally no other bike traffic.

correct me if i'm wrong, but if the storm ends up being mostly sleet then the accumulation won't be close to 7 inches at all.

I'd actually prefer a few inches of sleet/ice over <4 inches of snow. My sled will fly like the wind on some ice, but 4 inches of snow packed down isn't enough for it to do anything.

Hey I really like riding in the snow/on ice. There's ton's of people on bike/hiking trails out here with fat bikes. It's a growing activity. I get excited everytime it snows (aside from skiing) because I get to ride around in it. It's even better because my daily commute is by bike.

Just figured there's always a positive side to weather. Why not embrace it?

I get the feeling I'll be working from home Monday.

Which is actually not nearly as fun as it sounds. The best part is getting to sleep an extra half hour instead of drive.
