in the beginning of the wolfweb...when there weren't many people...some folks posted their addresses if they were throwing a party...now that we know the cops are here...i think it'd be nice if you could some how cover that up...or perhaps not let one be permitted to view a thread if you weren't a member of tww at the time it was originally posted??

cos i don't think when <specific person here> posted his party a year ago w/ directions to his house ...knew that there were be over 2000 people able to access his address a year later.

just a thought.

if you make if where one can't view a thread that was created before they joined, then they wouldn' be able to see anything at all when they did join. that would'nt be a good thing.

perhaps someone who has a server should set up some form of a party line where people can log in to post/view parties. of course each person would be givin a user name and password, but only after thorough scrutiny to make sure that they aren't affiliated with the cops.

she's talking retroactive

the addresses for a lot of people from when party addresses used to be put on the main board are still on this site somewhere, accessible if you know where to look (especially with the revised search engine)

covering them up does sound like it'd be a good idea

oh yeah, i know lauren is talking about retroactive, and i think that is a good idea

however bevander is talking about the present in the second half of her post, which is what i thought i was clearly adressing

it's true, new users wouldn't be able to read anything...

but there's gotta be some way-- i know somebody's party got broken up 4 days before it even started................and it just so happends that his address IS posted on this site...way back when...i don't think i'ts a coincidence.

good idea- The other message boards allow members to edit and delete their posts indefinitely.... I never understood why TWW doesn't allow access to your own post more than 30 min's later...

this would solve djlaurens concern

and now, to anyone that would post their address on a public website..... can you be any dumber? Cops should be the least of your concern..... in short- not a good idea.

so you got offended about something that didn't apply to you and therefore wasn't directed at you?

I stand by my characterization.... anybody that did this - that was dumb, learn your lesson. Take this in the spirit it is intended.

prepare for the worst and never be disappointed--true...

however...what if dropout gives me his number on a piece of paper and i have it in my house...and somebody breaks in and stalks your number??

does that mean you can't give me your number, dropout??

someone giving you a number that is then stolen and then stalked is totaly unrelated. you didn't give the person free access to that number, they stole it.

posting an address on a public message board is just that...public. just like the directory.

maybe it was a mistake in the past, but from what i know the board has always been public. ask crazyj to edit the post for you (or have them ask to have their post edited).
