will the movie be as boring and preachy as the books?

I haven't read the books since I was really young, but I remember loving them, although at that age I didn't notice any of the Christian allegories. That trailer actually looked a lot more promising than I had expected. 5/8/2005 12:47:17 PM |

the narnia books actually werent preachy. his other works for sure are but they arent. the Christian themes are not in the forefront which is what i would consider preachy. they are just symbolic

I wouldn't call the Chronicles of Narnia allegorical. I don't think they were intended to be. I think the symbolism was a little more obvious than with, say, the Lord of the Rings (obviously, since Tolkien expressly stated he despised allegory, and that his books were only symbolic). But we're not talking about the Pilgrim's Progress either. Especially since it was intended for a younger audience. Lewis did not write this to the same target audience as he did Mere Christianity or a Grief Observed.

I'll definitely see it on opening day, I loved the books as a kid
so do they plan on making a different movie for each book in the series, I want to say there was six or seven?? They seem to be comparing it to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, that's why I ask. If so, I can see it getting old pretty quick and them not even finishing the series. Nevertheless, TLWW should be pretty good. 5/8/2005 2:43:24 PM |

the trailer looks good except for a bit too much cartoonish cgi. But the kids didn't annoy me right off the bat, which is promising. It certainly has the potential to be good.
But the website seems a little odd. Almost like they don't have anything good to say about Narnia so they instead try to tear down LotR (Tolkein was so damn stupid he only wrote 3 books for LotR .. Lewis is so awesome he wrote 7 books, therefore Narnia has to be better). 5/8/2005 2:47:23 PM |

yea its not the official site. if the official site attacked Tolkien that would be ridiculously gay considering how Tolkien and Lewis were basically best friends and all. i love both. this trailer wont play for me tho 5/8/2005 3:51:33 PM |

I'm going to read some of them again this summer. I've read them all before. Anyone else not that enamored with this particular book? It was decent, but I think it was really my least favorite of the series. They can do most of these movies spaced out, because the characters change. The main problem would be the final movie where basically everyone from all the books comes back for one last adventure. 5/26/2005 10:59:30 PM |

yea, i can't wait for the movie, it'll be nice to see how well it sticks to the novel, luckily the narnia books aren't as long as harry potter of LOTR so they shouldn't have the problem of cutting out alot of stuff for time. 5/27/2005 1:17:20 AM |

i really loved this book. it was probably my favorite in the series because i read it first and most often. in the final book where they come back, they are all older, right? so it shouldn't be too hard to do either way, i cannot WAIT for the movie to come out! 5/27/2005 11:01:13 AM |

I'm pretty sure that they've started filming "Prince Caspian", but I can't remember where I read that. I hope they get most of the books made into movies before the kids get too old. 9/19/2005 11:12:53 PM |

The Magician's Nephew and the Horse and His Boy have completely different character sets. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of The Dawn Treader have several characters in common.
The kids from England only age a few years throughout the books, but Narnia ages thousands of years.
Compare the English Years and Narnian Years here:
http://books.narnia.com/chronicles/books/index.html
Also gives a very short plot summary for each book that includes the main characters, so that you can see any difficulties involved with filming. Read up, n00bs!
^I doubt it will top LOTR in terms of cinematography, but they are good stories. The CGI looks a little dubious at this point.

LOTR was very well made i thought. considering how long the movies were already and the fact that they were being released to the general cinema.
given the length of movies they had to work with i think they did about hte best job possible9/19/2005 11:42:25 PM |

why do they all have brittish accents? 9/19/2005 11:46:24 PM |

i think it works well. for 1) its fairly accepted that middle earth is loosely based on europe and the shire specifically loosely bsaed on wales/ireland/uk..mainly the united kingdom.
2) the author was british. im sure in his head the dialogue was all in a british accent
