The federal government doesn't mind if the Force is with you, but it does have a problem if you have a copy of the newest "Star Wars" movie.

Agents shut down a popular Web site that allegedly had been distributing copyrighted music and movies, including versions of "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." Homeland Security agents from several divisions served search warrants on 10 people around the country suspected of being involved with the Elite Torrents site, and took over the group's main server. Contrary to its cold war days, US is now trying hard to quickly establish itself as the land of the absurd.

Department of Homeland Security

"The President proposes to create a new Department of Homeland Security, the most significant transformation of the U.S. government in over half-century by largely transforming and realigning the current confusing patchwork of government activities into a single department whose primary mission is to protect our homeland. The creation of a Department of Homeland Security is one more key step in the President’s national strategy for homeland security."

Didn't DHS incorporate most of the various cyber crimes units in the government? Wouldn't it make sense for the DHS to go after these guys if it did?

Enforcing copyrights and trademarks is the job of the copyright/trademark holder, not the goverment.

DHS was supposed to consolidate a large part of the law enforcement aspects of the government into a larger singular organization in part to improve communication and in part to remove redundencies.

I agree whole heartedly, but the government's been doing this long before DHS came arround. They'll tell you that they have the power to regulate interstate commerce and the internet is interstate commerce.

you folks need to think deeply.

Enforcing copyrights and IP is the work of the companies.

But the US Govt. is a slave to the companies...which is not peculiar considering that the companies *donate* billions to the 2 parties to get their beloved senators elected.

I mean,

The entire brouhaha about offshoring would come to a stop immediately if Bill Gates were to threaten to move his operations to India.
