We see a lot of primarily sedan manufacturers producing more and more powerful sports cars to compete with primarily sports car manufacturers, but I know of no opposite case, until now.

Finally, competition for European/American supersedans from a primarily sports car manufacturer! And it is stunning!

Quote :
"Porsche has recently registered the name Panamera, and it's expected to be the name of a new concept to be shown next fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It could also be the name of a similar production vehicle expected for the 2008 calendar year.

The Panamera will be built at the Leipzig factory alongside the Cayenne, and sources are estimating an annual production of nearly 20,000 units. The sleek rear-wheel-drive four-seater will be powered by Porsche's 4.5-liter V-8 - either the 340-horsepower version, or the optional 450-horsepower turbocharged engine. A hot 500-horsepower version may eventually follow. The new chassis may be shared with Volkswagen in an arrangement similar to the one that spawned the Cayenne."

Porsche is an independent company, they just have an agreement with VW for the Cayenne.

Its called the 612 Scaglietti.

Umm, where have you been? Have you heard of the Cayenne, or perhaps the GT supercar?

I think its a pretty sweet design. And when you take into consideration all the ultra high performance sedans out now from Ferrari, Maserati, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz then you can see its only logical for Porsche to hop into the fray.

I know the dictionary definition of sedan is a two or four door with front and back seats, but as it is used in the automobile industry, sedan is never used for two door cars, but always for four door cars.

So, no, Ferrari doesn't have a sedan.

Regardless of the terminolgy, just think. There is a big difference between two door "sedans" and four door sedans in terms of the customers they attarct and are intended for.

But yes, this is formidable competition for high performance sedans from BMW, MB, Bentley, Maserati, Audi, VW, Jaguar, and now, also Cadillac and Chrysler.

the scaglietti does not count as a sedan. the sedan i was referencing had four doors and people over the age of 12 can actually fit back there

I know, it was the Ferrari 420. I wasn't referring to you.

I was referring to occamsrezr and TKE teg, who are calling the 456/612 a sedan.

^ dude, show me a picture with 4 doors.

Was it not supposed to be 4 doors? Panamera has always had 4 doors.

BTW, a "shooting brake" (station wagon) version coming out next year as well.

^Yes, it's always supposed to be have been 4 doors. However there are rumors that a 928 successor will be built off this platform (a good idea IMO).

Holy shit, I didn't know those things cost so much.

I'd be embarrassed (sorta) to drop off/pick up my kids at daycare in that thing. My 5 year old won't STFU about convertibles and race cars. If I had that car, he'd brag all day.

Yeah that would be sick!

(I have heard it too)

The new Panamera looks basically like an elongated 911, so chopping 2 doors off to make a reborn 928 would result in a gorgeous car.
