Sunday Sept 11th with 3 Doors Down so far. I think I may have to head down this year since I haven't been to a weenie roast in a while... 7/25/2005 4:11:44 PM |

I went to 2 of em a looong time ago. Spacehog and Faith No More were the headliners. I had a blast at each of them.
But 3 Doors Down? Sounds like a good reason to not go. 7/25/2005 5:47:35 PM |

^ oh man I was at that one. I went to like four in row during high school.
That was a good one too. I think there were eight or nine bands that I really liked at the time. Good times. 7/25/2005 10:06:40 PM |

The 9/11 tribute in Charlotte that is Weenie Roast X. I think I'll sit at home and watch football.

I can for a while, but then they play the Linkin Park shit every half hour, which makes me change the station.

^^^alterbridge just got announced to play there. They're opening up for 3 doors down on the 9th in raleigh.
Tomorrow and the next day will probably be staind and breaking benjamin, who are also playing in raleigh.
They better get some good bands added or it will just be another stop on the 3 doors down tour.

yesterday's announcement was.........
you guessed it Staind, so if you miss the 3 Doors Down/Staind/Alter Bridge show you can see it in Charlotte and pay more money for it. 7/29/2005 9:49:20 AM |

you know, this is a fairly common thing these days. It has become so expensive to book acts for a show that the only option becomes tagging an existing tour with your promotion/station name. We did it a few years ago with the shindig being tacked onto the Matchbox 20 tour. Lame. but when these guys want tons of money to do the shows, it becomes cost prohibitive. The only areas getting huge, multi-bib/popular act radio fests are major markets (NY, LA, Miami, Chicago). 7/29/2005 10:51:29 AM |

^^ you can thank Clear Channel for that, they aren't independantly run anymore and don't have the same concert budget they used to. Funny thing is the ad in the paper was the one that the 3 doors down tour has used all summer with 106.5 weenie roast real small.
oh and wait for xplosivo to praise corporate radio and say that I am wrong. 8/9/2005 2:16:05 PM |

why the hell would I praise corporate radio!?
dude, do you even read what I post? I do rail on people for being fucking sheep and blaming clear channel for everything, but to say I "think corporate radio is great" is nonsense!
Quote : | "you can thank Clear Channel for that, they aren't independantly run anymore and don't have the same concert budget they used to" |
That is stupid. Budgets are down because ad revenue is down. CC is to blame in the sense that they are the ones setting playlists/ads. However, the artists are just as much to blame. They want INSANE amounts of money. We are currently trying to put together the bands for Oysterfest and to get someone shitty (like Howie Day) is running close to $20K. Couple that with the fact that the FCC is cracking down on payola/plugola/etc. and it is damn near impossible for a station in a non-major market to put on a show like that.
For 106.5 to do a Weenie Roast similar to the ones they did a few years ago where they had 10-12 good band (including a couple of big names) would cost a couple of hundred grand or more. So the option becomes one of two things: piggy back on an existing tour (which blows) or do a much smaller show where there are no big name and likely few recognizable names. The object of the concert is to make money for the station, so what do you think they are going to do?8/10/2005 12:38:20 AM |

^^ Somebody telling it like it is. Weenie Roast, before all of the greed (from everybody), did a fantasic job. I don't think I would have had the opportunity to see as many bands as I have w/o it. Bush, Moby, Staind, Sevendust, Dokken, etc. were awesome to hear live. Several other bands weren't spectacular, but were entertaining to listen to.
Anyways, $26 for a lawn ticket (w/tickemaster fees) + whatever gas is to get there. 9/6/2005 11:45:55 PM |

Since I've bttd this, does any have a listing of the bands that have played at each respective Weenie Roast? Dbocar (however you spell it) was rolling them off a night or two ago as I was making a beer run. 9/6/2005 11:49:27 PM |
