oh god...i loved that game. i think i'll download it now and play until the trial version runs out. remember when there was no trial version and it was just free?
my mom and dad were hooked as well.
it was my main source of procrastination. i started many papers at 3am because i had to play 'one more game.'

I'm surprised I managed to graduate on time thanks to Tribes 2. I spent nearly my entire senior year playing it and another year or so after I graduated. Honestly I'm surprised I managed to get a job I played it so much.

When I lived on campus me and some guys on my floor would spend hours playing either Tony Hawk, FIFA, or Goldeneye. I still remember staying up really late with some other people building monster pimp houses in The Sims using the cash cheat code. We wouldn't play the game, just build the biggest mansion we could on the lot.

Did a longbowman do any better in a tower than a regular archer/crossbowman/arbalest? I don't remember.

Anyway, UT did me harm too

[Edited on July 26, 2005 at 6:13 PM. Reason : btw, I was playing AoE ever since I got the trial version of the original with a magazine]

I think they had more distance and frequency... not sure though. I just put em up there anyway and watched the gooks drop like flies.

Definitely no more distance. I remember when the expansion came out, and the Teutons unique research was +3 castle and tower range. They were always my favorite civ before that, but even moreso then. My multiplayer strategy involved building as many castles as stone would allow.

Dude, I would rock you with the Byzantines. I'd roll through that shit.

That reminds me of the time I played a friend of mine over modem (back in the day). He would always brag about how good he was, so finally we went at it. Byzantines vs. Teutons. I kicked his ass pretty bad after a couple of hours, but he escaped with some small force to go restart on the edge of the map.

I was like, fuck, I can wait him out. I proceeded to build around 20 or so castles and had a bunch of teutonic knights and cavaliers (paladins...? can't remember if Teutons had them or not... I think they did).

Anyway, I was waitin for the inevitable counter attack, knowing full well that I would have no problem. I had a castle range of 13, and enough paladins to take out any trebuchets. Well, I must say, the counter attack was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a video game. He just sent a few screenfulls of camels. I mean, there must have been well over a hundred camels. And they just got chopped to pieces by my castles. So for a few minutes, it was the most hilarious thing hearing all those camels die with that death sound they make.

....guess you had to be there
