I do some work for a local Hispanic center who offers (among other things) GED classes, ESL classes and computer literacy classes.
The computers they have to work on range from under 100MHz up to a blazing 450MHz. Some have 32MB of RAM.
We need 6-7 computers to replace these. 600MHz and up would be great, HDD space isn't that important, but RAM is. If you only have some RAM to donate let me know, that would be a big help.
I'm pretty sure we have tax forms you can fill out to get a break on the taxes
pm me if you can help. Thanks 7/27/2005 11:50:20 PM |

I'll verify the forms tomorrow....I'm 99% sure we have them though, we take food donations all the time and give them out for that. I'll post for sure when I find out. 7/28/2005 12:06:13 AM |

We do have tax forms available, I can pickup donations (and drop off paperwork) or you're more than welcome to drop them off at the Hispanic Center

not sure exactly, it seems lke for state taxes dontations are applied as a tax credit, meaning if you owe the state $300, and you donated $100 worth of equipment, you would only have to pay $200 (or you'll get more of a refund if you normall get a refund) I don't think it functions that way with federal, you may have to do deductions for these dontations to count there. Not sure how accurate that is tho, I'm sure someone will correct me 8/5/2005 9:12:38 AM |

^ from what i understand, it still helps on your state taxes. i dont think you have to "do deductions" to get the break there like you do for federal 8/23/2005 5:37:24 PM |

All it does is deduct the donated amount from your income. For instance, if your tax liability is $10,000 this year, and you donated $100. Your new tax liability is $9,900.
For most of the people on this board though, this is the correct way to view it

No because he is talking about the amount that you are taxed on. You were refering to the amount that you owe the goverment ie 300 and he was talking about the amount that will be taxed ie 10,000 and if you are in a 30% tax bracket it would be 300 in taxes.8/24/2005 10:06:29 AM |

If it's a center that focuses on one ethnicity, then it better damn well ensure that the people who benefit are legally allowed to be here. I have no sympathy for or desire to help illegals in any way.8/24/2005 11:45:59 AM |

he said "tax liability" which is defined as the amount of tax you owe, not your income you are taxed on. Reading over his post, I think he didn't mean to say "tax liability" he probably meant "taxable income"
and like i said before, I *think*, these kind of donations serve as a direct credit against your state income tax liability. most people (students) don't need to worry about the implications of these donations against their federal income taxes
but anyways back to the topic, this center really needs some better hardware, any systems 500Mhz or better would be great. And if you have some spare ram (PC66 or better) that would be a big help too. We have the paperwork you can fill out to help with the taxes, just pm or post below if you can help.
