I guess if taxpayer dollars help fund the station, and if this is what the majority of taxpayers want to see, it's alright . . . right?

From MoveOn PAC:

Quote :
"The chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Kenneth Tomlinson, is trying to push partisan programming on your local PBS station. Now it's time to push back.

Tomlinson spent our tax dollars on a major new show with the notoriously right-wing editorial board of the Wall Street Journal. Under the guise of "balance," Tomlinson is giving yet another soapbox to powerful allies of the White House and short-changing investigative journalism on PBS.

The Wall Street Journal editorial page regularly distorts the truth to dogmatically defend the Bush administration. Here are a few examples:

Parroted Republican talking points to defend Karl Rove's role in the CIA leak1
Claimed Bush's Social Security privatization plan would not cut benefits2
Exaggerated the number of Iraqi troops trained3
Disputed science linking global warming to greenhouse gases4
Insisted the world is not running out of oil5
Falsely claimed Abu Ghraib report absolved senior officials of responsibility for abuse6
Credited Bush as the first to regulate mercury when he rolled back more stringent protections already on the books7

The Wall Street Journal editorial board is dishonest, and sadly it's also among the most influential political voices in the country. It hardly fulfills the public broadcasting mission of providing "a voice for groups in the community that may otherwise be unheard."8"

The wall street journal is notoriously right-leaning, but what kind of show is it? Is it a news program?

eh... it just sounds like MoveOn being whiney...

let the show air first... see how PBS handles it, see what they schedule around it... then make judgements

PBS was setup to insolate Public Broadcasting from politics, and bring people unbiased news and commentary. PBS shouldn't change it's view at the whim of the public or the gov't.

So education and truth are leftist? That's probably too kind.

The reason they created this show was in part to balance out another PBS news program, Now with Bill Moyers which at times was blatantly partisan towards the left. The only problem is that Bill Moyers has since retired and the show has been pushed to be less partisan, nullifying the need to bring the WSJ into the picture.

Hey, we tried to privatise PBS, thus severing the governmental control connection, but the dems said no.

I think PBS should tell people what I think.

yeah, i wasn't being sarcastic at the beginning of the thread. you're exactly right, with federal funding, the government/constituents have every right to see what they want to see on pbs.
