you can watch a dvd with windows media player. powerdvd works fine to do this as well. probably just poorly written software or it requires video acceleration on whatever monitor it's displaying to and doesn't switch it nicely 7/30/2005 12:53:29 PM |

i knew i could use windows media player but was just wondering if there was something that i was missing to get windvd to work
haven't tried divx player yet
heres what i would really like to do... with my old geforce cards when you played a video it would automatically go fullscreen on the tv. this also meant that the controls and stuff were on the monitor so you wouldn't have to try to read menus on the tv. thats what i would like to do, not really use the tv as a second monitor like it is now

if you're using divx player, make sure you go into options and turn on ATI acceleration 7/30/2005 1:05:24 PM |

its called hardware overlay.
if you want it to run on your 2nd monitor or tv, turn off hardware acceleration completely.
otherwise, you are going to have to make the tv your primary output, then everything will play. 7/30/2005 2:30:39 PM |

alright i'll try that out
so why did it work with the geforce cards? 7/30/2005 2:50:48 PM |

because nview can set two screens as a single virtual display. It fools windows into thinking you are using 1 monitor instead of running two. 7/30/2005 5:08:25 PM |

ok i set it as the primary display (activated then checked one) and it worked the only problem is that it looks bad. the resolution made it so the screen scrolls and there are red lines on all the white parts. i can change the resolution so i think somethings wrong
whats up 8/9/2005 8:43:56 PM |

just use powerstrip to fine tune things. tv's weren't meant to be monitors and usually require a decent bit of tweaking to get a perfect image. 8/9/2005 8:46:40 PM |

i dont care if the desktop looks shitty, i just want the video to look okay
man with my $10 geforce card it would automatically show videos fullscreen on the tv and they looked just fine
thats all i want this to do
(whats powerstrip)

when I had the card in my computer, I would just drag wmplayer over to the other monitor (my hdtv) find the file I wanted, hit alt+enter, and play it. I set the resolution to 640x480, 60hz refresh rate, if you're gonna use powerstrip set it to interlaced, turn on ultra fine granulation, and lock geometries once you get the image centered.
[Edited on August 10, 2005 at 12:30 AM. Reason : the only thing I had besides the softmod driver was powerstrip, no hydravision or multires] 8/10/2005 12:30:07 AM |
