?

I mean, I don't live near raleigh, so I wont be able to go to any games, their career services, from what i've heard, leave a lot to be desired... should I pay them the money to join up just to say i'm in?

Yeah I was thinking about this also, I've told my parents for the past two years to get me the membership for Christmas but they always forget!

I would at least get an alumni email address, its free and you can have it foward to whatever email account you use.

I got myself a membership and that only opened the door for more people soliciting me for money

But just because I'm an NCSU grad, I feel somewhat obligated to.

The DC area alumni association is actually pretty large and active. They do viewing parties for sporting events, and if I'm remembering correctly, even get together for community softball teams and stuff like that.

yeah the Chicago Wolfpack club does a lot of cool stuff too, they needed people for their kickball team but I didn't have the time to participate on a weekly basis.

fuck the alumni association. ncsu screwed me out of enough money when i was in school that i'll never give them another cent. some day when i'm rich, famous, and powerful, i can't wait for NCSU to come kissin' my ass for money...i'll tell them that i "donated" enough in bullshit parking tickets alone, nevermind legitimate parking tickets, and whatever else they hit me with.

furthermore, they fucked up pretty much any and every fun thing they could get their hands on while i was an undergrad (see my thread on the subject in the Old School forum).

and they did pretty much everything in their power, save the Dean of CHASS who actually did possess both a grain of sensibility and the clout to override the slew of dumbasses intent on screwing me, to screw me out of being able to graduate on time and walk on graduation day as a result of THEIR MISTAKE, and they didn't even tell me they weren't gonna let me graduate until about 36 hours before graduation. even then, with the situation semi-resolved at the 11th hour, i didn't get my diploma for several months after graduation.

i love it when people blame something else for their own stupidity.

that being said, the baltimore alumni association is just getting started. we had a lot of game watches last year, but no events out side of that. we are hoping to do more this year.

Not something I'm really interested in. I'm keeping in contact with the people I made friends with from NCSU, so I really don't see a point.

The basic point is to give back to your University. Our alumni membership numbers are terrible compared to UNC. Its embarassing. Anyways, its $40/year. You get a sticker for your car, NC State magazine, 10% off alumni association clothing, and invitations to various events. If you live out of state it can be cool b/c you have smaller groups to meet with and go to sports bars with for games. I go to the occasional game here in Charlotte at Stool Pigeons/Fox and Hound to watch games with other alumni. Was a lot of fun at Stool Pigeons for the Kansas bowl game a couple of years ago. There was free pizza and discounted beer. The money goes toward the University (funding scholarships, recruitment, etc.). The return on investment is the better NC State becomes, the better the value of your degree.

I guess I can understand that. They say it takes about 5 years to get over being mad at the college you graduated from.
