Quote :
"Joe Bastardi, a meteorologist with private forecasting company AccuWeather, predicted most of the remaining storms this year will take a more easterly path than the June and July storms that entered the Gulf of Mexico.

“The most action will be from Aug. 15 to Oct. 15 along the Eastern Seaboard. I’m targeting the Carolinas for the worst,” Bastardi said. “Also, there will be (landfalls) in New England and the Florida coast.”"

Nobody can accurately predict hurricanes two weeks in advance. It doesn't take a genius to predict a hurricane hitting the east coast during hurricane season anyways.

I remember in MEA443 we had to do our weather briefings everyday...
JP was doing his weather briefing when the guys from Accuweather were there for the job fair so they came up to watch the briefing...
JP said the next day wouldn't get out of the 60s or something like that because of some cold air damming in the area....
the accuweather guy raised his hand and said that he could see it getting into the 80s easily....

well...the next day rolled around and it didn't get out of the 60s....JP was right and the accuweather guy was WRONG WRONG WRONG
oh it was great

Bastardi is a dumbass. Besides his guess is just an educated guess b/c i think NC is 3rd only to florida and texas in hurricane strikes. Its b/c our ass stick out right into the atlantic ocean. His idea about new england seems right on. From what i hear water temps are running warm up in the NE this year. But i think smthg may hit around NJ.

I'm pretty anxious about it..
If they name Harvey within the next couple of days the record for quickest to 8 will be broken...Hugo hit NC in September if that tells you how active the systems are this year...
They are calling for Harvey to go out to sea, but it looks creepy spinning out there by the outer banks

if a hurricane made landfall on the northern nj coast it would be catastrophic formanhattan. it is a very low island second in succeptability to only new orleans. many of the buildings are tall enough that they would experience wind speeds a category or 2 higher than the actual wind speeds. subways would fill with water and alot of crazy stuff.

while youre right about the water, it would be extremely rare for a major hurricane to hit. The water north of Hatteras is much cooler (no Gulf Stream water) and the system would therefore weaken. Plus upper level winds would probably tear it apart even before then, and they usually move at a faster pace to the north and east, thus lessening chance of flooding.

Bold statement my friend. There is a chance that anywhere between Maine and Florida could be hit by a hurricane. I'm guessing his next bold statement will be that there is a chance of snow in the Rockies this winter.

Don't forget this one:

Hurricane Bob--This Category Two Hurricane was one of the more memorable storms of 1991 besides the "perfect" Halloween Gale later that year. It moved up the East Coast before making landfall in New England. Believe it or not, as of 2000, this storm was ranked 10th all time in terms of estimated damage with $1.5 billion dollars.

I remember that shit when I was a kid.. had never even really thought about a hurricane before (even though I was 9 at the time). The local news was predicting doomsday x10.
