is in my driveway, bitches.

Mustang dyno, AWD mode:
221.3@6500
210.8@3750

Mustang dyn, FWD mode: (disabled haldex (rear axle))
235.7@6500
223.8@3500

now the interesting part.. applying the old standby 15% loss for FWD, i get 277.2hp. applying an estimated 20% loss in awd mode gives... 276.6hp.. very close! so i this proves the 20% DT loss in this particular AWD system is at least as accurate as the 15% often used for FWD cars.. brilliant! but yeh yeh, its just numbers, blah, etc, yadda

ill scan the dyno sheets later on. i also switched between stock and performance pump gas chip modes and found a net gain of 15wtq (300rpms lower) and 6whp with the gains through the entire rpm range.

fun day at Absolute in Durham! we spent the whole day playing w/ my car. thanks to Even

Right, unless you put a seat on your motor and hook a wheel to the crank crank hp #'s are pointless.

Your can could make 1000 crank hp, but if only 5 make it the pavement they are the only ones that count.

No, he thinks he has a 277hp car. But that number is based on a correction factor that has no basis other than being an "old standby".

Using his stated stock pulls number and VW stated crank power the correction factors should be 13.5% for Hp and 17.4 for Tq.

So really your title should say I have a 251hp car in the driveway.

221awhp is a pretty nice number. anyway, there is only so much you can do to n/a engine, unless you start spending major money.

you got chip and exhaust?

PWR!: CAI, GIAC chip, and a mod to the exhaust that allows it to stay in loud/performance mode all the time (it normally opens up at 3400rpm) its actually a 3way switch that has loud/perf mode, quiet mode, and stock mode.

suspension: i just put Koni shocks and H&R Sport springs on it last weekend.. bigger rear sway bar

other stuff: .. BBS CH wheels.. and stiffer lower motor mount bushings.. and i think thats it.

no one knows, but considering many (at least 7 slips on the vortex) w/ similar mods have gotten their fat asses down the 1/4 mile in 13.5 and trapping over 100 id say its within the realm of possibility. fastest is 13.2 w/ the same mods w/ no back seats or spare stuff

its pretty well given that its 250hp stock with its stock 1/4mile times. the US version has a the same 3" MAF and throttle body and ECU programming that the US 3.2l Audi TT has which is advertised at 250. the euro R32 is slower and has a smaller MAF/TB so the advertised 240 seems about right for them. 241hp is also the limit for the VW Cup Racing so that works out nicely as well. 27 crank hp in mods is reasonable considering stock variance, the CAI alone is good for 10-14whp (whole dyno day CAI shoot outs are out there to prove this), chip, opened up exhaust, etc.

DONT HATE, APPRECIATE.

and the purpose of this thread isnt to be perfectly scientific, its to talk shit and mess around w/ you TWWers, hence the exclamation points, "bitches", etc, etc. as an engineer, im pretty familiar w/ the concept of units, experimentation, and data analysis even if i enjoy harrassing you baffoons w/ talk of crank #s, etc. so in a nutshell, all of you "experts" are wasting your breath

oh here's the pic:

Ok first I wasn't hatin'

I was pointing the flaws with both your math and assumptions. And the whole" well audi's have this and this and this vs the euro R32 and this and this and this", to justify those flaws doesn't help you, MR. Engineer

I like VW's, I like R32's, hell your not a bad guy either. But if you're trying to convince yourself, or others, of something al least use real numbers and corrections.

i guess my point is that i think ive done the best that can be done with the data i have. i acknowledge my results are only as good as the "data" i have. i know i dont have EXACTLY 277.000hp, but thats as good a guess i or anyone can get. i thought that this margin of error was assumed. ie, i cant prove i do and no one can prove i don't. ITS A MYSTERY

look, claiming that he has ~277 hp is perfectly legitimate. that's the common language. that's how car companies rate their cars, so stating it that way is just maintaining an apples to apples comparison. when people ask how much power my cars make, i tell them about 360 hp for the honda and 280 hp for the mazda, unless i think they know enough to understand what the difference between crank hp and rwhp is.

now granted, we all know that whp is what really counts, but if you don't specify "whp" or "to the ground" or something, everyone knows that you mean crankshaft hp, and since i don't really know dick about R32s, that's in some ways more meaningful to me anyway, because i don't have a clue what a stock one puts to the ground.

furthermore, half the point of his post was to demonstrate at least some level of validity of the commonly accepted estimates for driveline losses.
