got a linksys router from BB today, FAB, now i need to figure out how to setup vonage so i can cancel bellsouth.....how do i set it up so all my phones (3 cordless, 2 corded, 1 fax) can work through vonage....or is this not possible?

is vonage better than paying $25/month for bellsouth? i use the cellphone for long distance

i'm thinking if i jumped the gun on this one, comments/help please thanks

Just plug it into a phone jack and all the others should work (There is a wiring assumption in this statement. Do some reading first.)

ok i haven't set this thing up yet, but i'massuming it's pretty easy?
i just call BellSouth, cancel the service, then immediately activate Vonage with my number and i'm good to go?

also i heard from a friend today that he's been experiencing flaky service with Vonage, having to reboot his adapter multiple times...is this common?

at my house all the lines come in to the basement. This includes cable and phone.

The phone drop from outside gets split and sent to 2 cat-5 cables (used for phone) that run to all the ports in the house. The split is actually a 2 port wall jack that the cat-5 cables connect to. What i did when i got vonage, is i split the outgoing rj-11 port from the vonage router into 4 rj-11 jacks. I unplugged the 2 cat-5 lines (crimped with rj11 connectors) from the wall jack, and plugged them into the splitter on the vonage router.

So it takes about 10 seconds to switch the hardware..

my parents have vonage at their house. and they love it because they can make international calls to our relatives and talk all the time for however long they want without having to worry about costs. i'm not sure if you can set it up with all of your phones. i know my father set it up on the cordless phone. He still decided to keep BellSouth, because if your broadband connection is down so will your vonage and thus no phone for you. or if vonage is down, no phone service. and don't forget to add the 911 feature if you do decide to cur off the landline.

i just went through the activation process got to the end and was about to pay, then saw a charge for $30 activation fee....what's up with that? I thought there was some kind of free activitation promotion...anyone?

i unplugged the phone line outside of the house at the temination point (grey box with a bell on it).

plugged the vonage box into the wall.

voila, phone works all over the house.

of course my setup is slightly different, but you can do it many ways (you also have to live in a house or have access to your apartment wiring).

i've had it for a little less than a year and i haven't had too much trouble with it. i've got a UPS connected to it and the cable modem so that if the power does go out, i can still make a recieve phone calls.

i have had trouble with roadrunner last night and today, but other than that, it's been pretty good and vonage will send you out new equipment if theirs is acting flaky in any way, which is more than i can say about ma bell.

There are other VOIP services that only cost 14.95 a month and have everything they do.

Search around for em and save yourself some dough.

i love vonage. yeah i'm sure the other services are fine as well, but I pay $15 a month for 500 minutes of long distance and local minutes, and along with my cell, that's all I need. All you have to do is disconnect the phone line going into the box outside, then plug the vonage box into one of the phone lines in the house. That routes the line to all the other phonelines, and voila.

you HAVE to disconnect the outside line before doing this, however, or the phone company could one day send test voltage or something up the line and fry your equipment.

all I did at my house, though, is I have a multi-handset cordless phone. I just plugged the base into the vonage box and I use the handsets. It was even easier than connecting it into the house line, becuase the vonage box and phone line were on opposite sides of the room from each other.
