Ok, so my folks asked me to hook up this fax machine and now want me to get the fax to work. DO I need to get a seperate number for the fax and if so how? Or does someone just call the house and it automatically work (which I doubt)? THanks 8/9/2005 1:40:55 PM |

This depends on the setup of the fax machine. RTFM 8/9/2005 1:41:51 PM |

if you hook it up to the normal house line it will work. You dont need to set anything up aside from the fax machine itself
The problems are these:
You cant fax and talk at the same time. If you set the fax machine to auto answer, it will auto answer people calls as well as fax calls.
These two problems are solved by a seperate line/number.
It depends on what they're using it for. If all they do is outbound faxes, another number isn't worth it.
If you get lots of inbound faxes you want another line. 8/9/2005 1:44:11 PM |

When we had a fax machine it was set to operate with our normal telephone line. Whenever we got a phone call and the fax machine happened to be on, it would beep continuously throughout the call. 8/9/2005 2:44:56 PM |
